"I've eaten here twice during my time in San Francisco - and this occasion was my farewell as I'm heading back to the UK next week. The steaks are fantastic and the wine menu is the best, I love this place and it has very good memories for me - order a bottle of Mischief and mayhem and definitely have the chocolate melting pudding!

"We came to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday with some friends and we come every year for his birthday. Even though we had made reservations, they sat us at a table directly in front of the kitchen. That did not make me happy and I asked that we be moved. They moved to a better table, a booth. Our waiter, Josh was fantastic. He totally took care of us. My friend's cocktail was too sweet and he re-made it. I ordered my filet medium rare and when it came out medium and I sent it back, boom - I got a new filet, cooked perfectly, in I swear, 5 minutes. We had a fantastic time! Josh would come check on us, make us laugh and he offered to surprise us by picking out dessert. He scored!"

"For starters you know that I loved the scallops & crab served with corn/bell pepper hash. The soup Tomato Basil and Crab Soup had a great taste!!! Accompanied with a dip of the fresh warm bread and a stir of the spoon was not too shabby, however to some it might just seem like regular tomato soup w/ some crabmeat tossed in before leaving the kitchen. The 6 oz. Filet & Shrimp was good but there was nothing special about it, the presentation was ok. I enjoyed the creamed spinach - Just like mom use to make. The Broad Sweet Hurricane was a drink for the ages. The Strawberry Chocolate Cheesecake & Almond Trio Chocolate Clusters had a nice presentation; it was very flavorful although I wasn't ready to eat dessert."

"It had been over 10 years since my last visit to Ruth's Chris. Since then, I have eaten at the other steak houses on and around Van Ness Street multiple times. No longer!
Our recent experience at Ruth Chris was amazing. Excellent cuts of beef done to perfection, very generous side dishes, rich decor and outstandingly friendly efficient service. Three of the four in the party ordered our cuts prepared "black and blue." My ribeye was crunchy on the outside and cold on the inside. As were the others. The medium rare filet was just that - pink but not red. Amazingly well done all around!

"There were three of us for dinner, one had no previous experience with Ruth's Chris. What a treat for her!! I had a gorgeous glass of Merlot, that turned into two. Yumm-0. We ordered a salad-free dinner anticipating the delights to come. We had green beans, creamed spinich, sauteed mushroom and the onion rings, joined by two petite filets and lamb chops. The onion rings were the only miss of the evening. Did not exactly meet description of menu or waiter. Everything else was superb! We completed dinned with one creme brulee and an order of berries with creme fraisch in lieu of birthday cake. Everything was perfect! Costly, so not for everyone."

"The bar was a bit of a disappointment. It was really quiet and the bartender (Jose) was busy talking with what seemed to be a local, regular patron. I had to wait until they finished their conversation before I could order a drink.

"If you are hankering for the best filet mignon, cooked perfectly to order, mouth-watering and sizzling, no matter where you are, you can't go wrong with Ruth's. My husband and I have found that these restaurants know their beef and consistently serve up the best steaks, with the very best service--not intrusive, but always available. Side dishes are wonderful, too. The ahi tuna appetizer at this location also was superb....never had better ahi anywhere!"

The rest of the evening was HORRIBLE!
It was supposed to be a romantic anniversary dinner, yet they sat a very large, very noisy group next to us. After the large group was seated, our service was non-existant.

"The overall experience was very good. A slight dessert mishap made it a 4 star review. It really should have been stars. The food here is really excellent. Everything was delicious. The dessert was just ok. We each had a dessert and they only brought 3 portions (we had 4 people). We waited a good 10 minutes before our server came back and took note of that. Yet there were plenty of servers that passed us by and failed to even ask if we needed anything.
The complete meals are totally worth it! Salad entree side and dessert! Steak is cooked to perfection! No kidding about that! Love this place!"

"Thoroughly enjoyed our meal - took another couple who hadn't been here before. The only reason we didn't give the service 5 stars was that our waiter forgot our appetizer order, then didn't refill the bread tray. However, we mentioned all of this to the manager and he discounted our bill, which was much appreciated. Food was fabulous, as usual, the rest of the service was great, and their wine list seemed to be carefully chosen. We've never gone wrong ordering a bottle we're not familiar with. All around a great experience!"

"It was a fabulous restaurant with great food. It was our first time at this restaurant, and the experience was great. It is pricey, but would return for a special occasion only. It was our anniversary, and wouldn't complain about the price for that reason. The only complaint I had was even though we had reservations we still waited about 30 minutes to be seated. The staff was very friendly! Our waitress Megan was great!!"

In fact there were too many parties waiting that one had to suspect overbooking or too many walk in parties. Not acceptable since restaurant is fairly expensive. Valet car service while reasonable was subpar. My nice expensive car was parked in a street metered space where it was subject to other cars hitting it.
This restaurant is not upscale but charges like it. Food saved it from a lower rating honestly.
Other places up the street cater to a more sophisticated and older crowd and would not have the issues we encountered here while probably being less expensive too."

"Great place overall, we made reservations on open table at 8:00 but were running late so we called to change it to 8:30 & they were happy to change it. We came in and the staff was friendly but not intrisive, wich was important since it was a special ocasio for me and my wife. The food, wine and service were all good. The server was very professional. Thanks to all of you for making it a very exceptional dining experience!"

"Everything about Ruths Chris is GREAT! the food awesome as always, the cocktails first rate, esp like that they carry HANGAR ONE vodka! :) their steaks wonderful and sides splendid and salad fresh and healthy, our server was WONDERFUL. she knew her menu and steaks, she was knowledgeable and very very professional. she was both warm and friendly, w/out being smothering and pesky and gave us the space we needed but i could tell she was nearby if we had need. we were there for our anniversary and didn't order dessert but were surprised by a trio of desserts with a candle, i always want to come here for special occasions and always tell my friends they are the BEST STEAK HOUSE ever!"
