"The food and presentation is always so interesting, and my favourite dish so far Chinois Duck tortillas - I highly recommend. I also love the assortment offered in the 'Mozzarella Bar'. Definitely a place for foodies, and one of my favourite spots in the city.
The one main criticism I have is that the washrooms are a little atrocious; a stark contrast to the swank ambiance of the main lounge. I hope the owners to something about that as they should be embarrassed."

"When everyone is done eating and three servers walk by and look at your table and do not take away ones plates, that's disappointing. When one has to flag someone down to ask to have the plates removed, that's annoying."

"Group of 5 of us let the wait staff choose for us and we were not disappointed. All very good. Fun spot - a tad on the noisy side but we just drank more wine and talked louder.
(Re: reservation. Booked on Open Table and got 2 reminders then a phone call to call back to confirm. Don't need that many reminders nor the obligation to call to yet reconfirm again. I get you're a hot resturant - but my days are too crazy to have to call to reconfirm two email confirmations.)"

"The food was amazing as usual -- the Buffala Mozzarella with pear, rosemay and pinenuts stood out as did the duck tortilla. The restaurant was very busy and so the service was slower than usual. Because it was very busy, the noise level was very high. Neither of these concerns will stop us from coming by again soon."

"I made a reservation three days in advance and the only table they would give me was on the patio. Even though it was raining and cold outside. When we asked to move inside they said they would talk to the manager but then seemed to forget about us and our request.
We intended to stay for dinner but it was freezing outside. They then proceeded to mix up and forget our drink orders. Let's be honest, Origin offers mediocre tapas plates but if service is poor , then what's the point.
Fortunately we cut our losses and went to Terroni on Adelaide. So glad I learned about sunk cost theory. Thank you rotman!"

"Sad, really. A fab restaurant with ambience, great tunes and food to match - and usually great wait staff. But unfortunately it was a 9pm reso on a Sunday night - and it was very quiet. First bites came out in no time flat. We were trying to leisurely enjoy them, but were told the kitchen would be closing early. Though we complied and gave our order, we did ask for a bit of time. Unfortunately, the next plates came out just as fast as the first ones and we felt pretty rushed with staff bustling around, trying to pour the wine quickly and hustle away our plates. Managed to ignore it as best as possible, but felt rushed. Will be a while before returning."

"We didn't have the best seat in the place, sitting across from the expeditor and up against a wall - so ambiance was a little low. We have been before - sat outside and quite enjoyed. This time however - we both found the food 'okay'.
The beet salad is a bit silly - a whole beet - the sorrel doesn't add much - nor does they yogurt - overall this is on the low side of what many restaurants seem to accomplish with a beet salad. The quacamole was way over cumin'd and just uninspired - any mexican haunt would outperform it. The halibut was sadly dry and too thin a piece (the pea puree was lovely with the clams). The lobster ceviche was a bit too acidic - although the texture of the lobster was great. Don't think we'll go back."

"Our server was great! The only problem I had with my evening was the chef was excessively loud, raising his voice more than needed. I work in F&B as well and can appreciate the idea behind an "open concept kitchen" but he needs to tone it down a little because I could hear his conversations across the restaurant. I heard him say "what the f***" "they're getting the duck and the chips together?? That's a gross combination"...something along those lines, he even looked up at me (realizing I heard him) and asked me "could you hear that?" and I answered "absolutely" and to top it off the food he was commenting on was for my table. Being a chef is stressful, I get that, but he should really find a better way to handle himself while on the line."

"Dined here with a friend, the service was mediocre only because we had seemed to be forgotten because of where we were seated. We were helped by so many different people that I wasn't sure who to ask for the bill. Was given the dessert menu after asking two different people, only to take over 10min for them to return. We were there for over two hours already and didnt feel like waiting any longer. Otherwise food was great and I'd give them a second chance for service."

"This restaurant was really good and I used their online reservation system to book a table by the window as I didn't want to sit by the bar. When I arrived at the restaurant they had a table opened at the window and by the side wall and the hostess only offered me to sit at the bar or at the lounge on a couch or outside in the cold. The entire reservation system defeated the purpose and the hostess said I couldn't seat at either as they were reserved for others. Clearly they need to manage their seating arrangements better or not bother with reservations if they don't even read or follow them."

"I was asked to make a dinner arrangement for a group of 6 with little to no input from the gang. So I took it upon myself to make a reservation at Origin and it was so much fun. The resto resonated with me as the menu is very social and there is a lot of sharing. This might not work for most people but if you like to chat, drink wine and eat good food - then this is the place for you. I look forward to visiting the north resto with another group of friends and having another great night."

"The food is always great and inventive at Origin. We were advised to arrive within 10 min of reservation or we'd loose it and that we needed to be out in two hours. Good for the heads up. The waitress was politie, but you could tell she was ensuring we'd be out in time - in fact we were out in an hour. a bit of a polite rush. Great food though."

"The restaurant sells itself as a tapas type restaurant but most dishes are impossible to share. The dishes are described in a delicious manner with exciting flavours but We did not feel they were well executed. Very expensive for what you are getting. Great bar scene not so great for a dinner party, can not hear the person sitting across the table from you."

"This restaurant has gone way, way downhill. The service was painfully slow and arrogant. The chefs were not accommodating at all. The food was nothing special. I'm done with Origin. Time to move on. There are so many superior restaurants in our fine city with staff who are happy to serve."

"The food was a disappointment, as was the seating. The tables were crowded together so each was 6 inches from the next, you could hear everyone elses conversations, not a good date place for Asian fusion, compared to food from the west coast it was terrible and the cost ridiculous for the quality of dishes. Would not recommend this place."

"My boyfriend and I went there on a Friday night with a reservation for 9:00 pm. We were seated right away and had a waiter greet us immediately. The place was full and the atmosphere was very lively. Definitely a great place for a date night or even for lunch.
The menu selection is fantastic and the waiter made many recommendations especially on the cocktail menu.
The good came fairly quickly and was delicious. We had the oysters which had a fantastic spicy flavour and the calamari was definitely the highlight. It was agreeably the best calamari we have had due to the amazing flavour combinations of the sauce.
The cocktails were nice and strong , he had a dry martini with olives and I had a French martini.

"Origin offers tapas for sharing. Food artfully presented, one dish was a tower we had to deconstruct before eating. Pretty but I find this trend to “high” food annoying. However, all four dishes we tried were tasty and one (raw tuna salad Japanese style) was a stand-out. Service friendly but not cloying, pacing just right. The red recommended by server was lovely and paired well with everything we chose. Trendy minimalist decor, mostly hard surfaces - noise level acceptable on our visit, but if room had been busy, probably would have been very noisy. We did not like the washrooms being so far and isolated. Overall I would recommend this restaurant but you must be aware it is tapas style dining."

"Our food was good but the noise level made conversation difficult and we were there at 6:30 pm. I would only go in the future when the patio is open. Plus they served part of our dinner, the frites, about 15 minutes into our main. They did take one meal's cost off to apologize, though. The food was inventive. Lobster ceviche was very acidic; the burger was good, and the frites, once they arrived were rather soggy."
