DBGB Kitchen and Bar is Chef Daniel Boulud's downtown place where the French brasserie meets the American tavern. Come for the 14 varieties of house-made sausages from the Merguez to the Anglaise. There's also seasonal Lyonnais inspired cooking alongside mouth watering burgers and towering shellfish platters. Wash them down with great craft beers (22 on tap) and affordable table wines. For dessert dig into soul soothing classics: filled crèpes, hot soufflés and ice cream sundaes laden with decadent sauces and toppings. The interiors take their cue from the Bowery's history as New York's industrial restaurant supply neighbourhood. Floor to ceiling shelving stocked with the restaurant's own tools, tableware and dry goods overlook a partially open kitchen. In the bar, the writing is - quite literally - on the wall. Boulud's favourite culinary quotes fill the mirrors, providing food for thought. Speaking of which, poets and pundits with laptops are welcome to use our free WiFi access.

"We have been to DBGB several times and have never been disappointed. The sausages are absolutely delicious and it is fun to try a bunch of different ones to start. While I normally try to avoid ordering burgers when there are so many other menu items that intrigue me, the pulled pork burger is to die for! Atmostphere is what I call "guy trendy", ladies will definitely enjoy it but works well for those guys in your life who like to stay a bit casual."

"The house-made sausages were very good. We tried three, which we shared as a first course, and were impressed by how different the flavors were. The skate was wonderful. A light dusting of saffron-enfused flour added an unusual flavor, and it was perfectly pan-fried. We also tried the veal breast, which was good, although it was a fattier cut than we expected. Other diners in our group enjoyed the Yankee burgers, which were accompanied by a very generous portion of house-spiced, hand-cut fries. We enjoyed the visit very much. The noise level was fairly high; try to reserve one of the more-private side booths, which cuts the noise somewhat."

"Interesting contrast with Bar Boulud, which I love. Food is very good--very creative and would give it the nod over BB's pre-theater menu, but with much less of the warmth that the Lincoln Center restaurant has developed. And it's noisy. Simple example: how tough the trendy maistre d' types were on seating less than full parties--the spirit is much more welcoming uptown."

"Dishes were hit or miss. Go for the sausages and the winter squash soup. Nice wine list.

Our waitress has some fantastic recommendations; however, my table (the four of us) had a hard time hearing her as main room was pretty noisy, even at 10PM on a Wednesday night. The runners were awful and had to be flagged down just to get any salt and pepper for the table.

I am tempted to return for their hamburgers, though, and would give them another try. Even with Pulino's opening so soon."

"As visitors to NYC we booked DBGB for Valentine's Day and to enjoy a treat for our last meal in NYC. We weren't disappointed. Table ready on arrival, service attentitive, engaging and not overwhelming. We were also pleased that we had to opportunity to order a la carte and not just the prix fix for VDay. This allowed us to try a variety of items on the menu, including the sasuages, which incidently were outstanding. On a night when the place was pumping, service never faltered, food arrived promptly, as ordered and perfectly executed, drinks were topped up throughout the meal and the help with the extensive winelist was appreciated. I've recommended DBGB to other friends who have travelled to New York for a great night out."

"DBGB is a stylized French bistro specializing in a sophisticated French twist on American classics. The beer list is fantastic, and highly recommended.
The restaurant is so busy that service suffers. We had to wait twenty minutes for our 9:00 reservation, and our server was obviously rushed and exhausted. He left early, which stranded us without a cheque for a long time (not that we really minded, due to that excellent beer list).
The food was very good, but execution was uneven. The sausages are superb but still not elevated beyond the bistro staple they have always been. Main dishes varied from excellent to merely good, and the soggy pasta and crunchy risotto were disappointing. Dessert was excellent and inventive."

"Excellent food - quality, preparation and presentation. Recommend sharing several small plates and even dinner sized portions. As expected, lots of pork and sausages but the fish was excellent as well. a bit on the pricey side as all these smaller plates add up quickly. Definetely come back."

"After a delay in being approached at my table, I placed my food order and then asked about their beer selections, which are listed in metrics (500 ml/ 1 l)and roughly what was 500 ml. in ounces but the server was clueless and didn't offer to find out, so I went with water! The liver pate was fine followed by a plate of white sausage (with fois gras and apple- had an odd taste), a wedge of hashed brows that looked like something from a grocery feezer package, and two perfectly cooked eggs, which was o.k. as was the dessert. The service was less than impressive and and included periodic complaining by a group of servers at a station near my table. I was a bit suprised at my experience here, given all the buzz."

"DBGB came to me with good reviews, but mine will be in line with what I've seen on other sites. The food and ambiance are good, the service was mediocre. We decided on our order, then were informed that we were mistakenly given the dinner menu. We then had to reevaluate our choices. Our drinks were ordered together. My beer came shortly, but my wife's Gimlet after we reminded the waiter, and 10 minutes of waiting. When our glasses were filled with water, the bus boy reached across the table, blocking my view of my wife. Otherwise, the bus service was excellent."

"we were at dbgb for our anniversary and were very impressed with the ambiance, food, service and their special attention- our server picked up on the fact that it was a special night and he sent out dessert with "happy anniversary" spelled out in chocolate on the plate. really fun, easy environment and excellent food. great restaurant for restaurant people- we both work in philadelphia restaurants and tend to hold high expectations."

"Was back in NYC for just a night and was meeting my three daughters for dinner, so picked this trendy lower east side restaurant based on my oldest daughters recommendation. Was a great experience. the decor and ambience is modern and upscale but still very comfortable and relaxing. As the restaurant reached capacity there is an 'energetic' sound level, but not enough to interfere with table conversation. The wide variety of sausages paired with soup were fantastic appetizer course and all 4 of our entrees (shrimp, veal breast, chicken, dinner salad) were well prepared and delicious. The wait staff were professional and very helpful without a feeling of 'hovering.' Will try to find opportunity to return soon."

"We arrived a little early and had drinks at the bar - which were great (try the Aztec Tequila drink with Jalapeno - yum!) I loved the food - the crazy selections of sausages was delicious, each one more divine than the last. Try the Vermont, and the Thai was very good. We were in one of the booths down the side which was very comfy and fun but it did mean the waitress kept missing us and it took a while to order our food. When it came though all was forgiven as the food was great - we ordered 3 of the duos (2 sausages in each) and they were all great. The fries and ratatouille were also excellent. For dessert we ordered the very impressive Baked Alaska, which they light at the table. I'll definitely come back to try the other sausages!"

"I fell in love with the menu design immediately, it's filled with all that aren't widespread in the American dining scene. Pate, terrine, pigs fee, bone marrow. I went in to the meal with my guard up as menu design without execution has dissappointed me in the past but DBGB definitely executed superbly. "Our party of 3 were from out of town (Toronto/Ottawa) and came down to NYC for a few days, making a point to stop and dine at some notable restaurants. The food and layout of the restaurant were fantastic; we loved the open kitchen in view for all (and using the cookware for decoer). I especially liked the play of the fried egg "bourguignon", and the tuna tartare was refreshing. One member of our party partook in the prix-fixe menu from Restaurant week (great bang-for-buck). The sausages were tasty (the table had the Tunisienne, Toscane, and Viennoise) Minor hiccups: the lemon tart was surprisingly less tart than expected, and the grapefruit ice cream was not as smooth as expected. We will definitely be returning."

"While I understand the stress that Restaurant Week puts on restaurant staff, the service unfortunately subtracted a good deal from what could have been a really nice meal. Our server acted like we were complete idiots who were wasting his time. "Had a fantastic dinner with 2 friends here the other night and shared a number of things on the menu. From the sausage menu we tried the Toulouse, the Boudin Basque, and the Viennoise, all of which were outstanding (the Boudin Basque came out on top for us). We also had the beef marrow bones and the Pied de Cochon pané with sides of polenta with mushrooms and brussel sprouts with guanciale. Outstanding! Would definitely go back."

"Had a lot of hustle and bustle but the staff were good, if a little humorless. Menu was interesting and novel; we had a 130pm lunch booking but the menu still had a few brunch/breakfast-looking things (omelets and other egg preparations). My DBGB hot dog was probably the weakest of the three main dishes we ordered at the table; the sausage itself was good but the toppings didn't work terribly well. Would go back in order to try new things from the menu and to enjoy the space, which is energetic and engaging."

"Overall an amazing restaurant, could easily become one of my favorite spots. The beer and wine lists are awesome, service is great, and the decor is really cool, with a collection of copper cookware from every famous chef in the world. I had a DBGB Dog and "Yankee" Burger and while both were pretty and had good buns/texture contrasts, they were a little bit bland. I will definitely be back to sample all the wonderful beers and charcuterie."

"I've seen complaints on Zagat about the service, but we had a terrific and caring server. The burgers were truly exceptional, the fries were delicious and the wine by the glass was excellent. "The decoration is imaginative and appealing. The food is very good bistro food, as is to be expected from DB. Unfortunately, the service is not up to standard. We had to wait for our food for 1 hour after we sat down and ordered. The noise level is so high that the waitress did not hear our order correctly and brought incorrect items. By that time we wee so hungry that we took what we could get. So if you go, go armed with patience and good humor, go for the good food, go with a group."

"I had a reservation and was given an ordinary table for 2 amidst all the other tables. There were several more comfortable booths open and I but I didn't bother to ask about them because of the busy lunch time crowd assuming they would be reserved for parties of 3 or more. In fact after our seating, they were routinely given to parties of 2. Rude! Food was good, but - would have expected more from Daniel especially given the price and the stingy portions. $10 for 3 slices of sausage on a small bed of cabbage and beets is kind of nervy. I have eaten at 2 other Boulud's restaurants, Bar Boulud and Daniel. Both were better dining experiences than DBGB with regards to food and service."

"My husband & I opted to eat dinner at the bar instead of taking a table. They have bar seats that fit two very nicely so we did not lose any romance from the dining experience. The bar menu is vast and DELICIOUS! My husband and I were able to try 4 different dishes and left appropriately satiated. The bar staff is knowledgeable and attentive. Not knowing any of the craft beers on the menu, they were eager to let me try a few varieties before deciding which one to drink. We had heard that drinks were very expensive, however most I tried were $7. I was expecting $16 beers. Overall, we loved this place and cannot wait to bring friends back with us. I was also lucky enough to meet Daniel Boulud, who was extremely kind."

"This was my 2nd time at DBGB and I think it's pretty good. I like the butter lettuce salad although it may be a tad salty. I loved the roasted chicken w/garlic clove and ratatouille. It was really excellent. Best ratatouille I think I've had - most are not made with much effort or flavor...The vegetables were well cooked and seasoned so that they blended together into a hot pot of deliciousness...I think DBGB is turning into a great neighborhood place and will have staying power...It's comfortable, lively, nice service, solid food, etc."

"This place is just wonderful! This was probably the best meal that I've eaten in a restaurant. The calamari salad was unique and I really enjoyed the different textures. The roast duck was perfection and very tender, it just melted in my mouth. For dessert, I had the gateau russe a la banane. The flavors were very subtle, but every once in a while, the passionfruit coulis would add a nice punch. My fiance had the steak frites and the peppered butter was very flavorful. For his dessert, he had the coffee-burbon sundae. It tasted JUST like coffee and burbon and was delicious. The service was great and when they didn't have my favorite beer, our server recommended a great replacement. I can't wait to go back and try more things. Great spot!"

"My wife and I went to DBGB for brunch and had a great meal. I had the Piggie burger and was blown away. Though smaller than expected, I have to say it was the best burger I've ever had. The Daisy Mays pulled pork really brought it all together. My wife had the croque madame and I have to say that it was just as good, if not better, than the ones we've had in Paris. We decided to give dessert a try and went for the coffee-bourbon ice cream sundae. This isn't your every day 2 scoop sugary kids sundae. The coffee ice cream tasted like a cup of coffee. I'm not that big on desserts but I would definitely get it again. We will definitely go back to DBGB again. Thanks Daniel."

"There were 13 of celebrating my son's 18th Birthday. We were seated at at a long table, but it felt cozy. The food was all delicious and very nicely presented. "It was just alright in my opinion. The food was good, but it didnt blow me away. I also dont eat meat, so perhaps this was the reason. There are not many pescatarian friendly choices. Service was decent. Hosts were snooty, which to me is always such an absurd notion being that they are your first impression of the restaurant. Just b/c it is a trendy place, does not mean the hosts have to behave snooty. I have no time for that, would rather go somewhere else that appreciates the business."

"Overall, wonderful. My boyfriend and I went for dinner Saturday night and actually ended up returning the following night for dinner. We just couldn't have enough of DBGB and had to try more of their delicious sausages. I must say that I'm not a fan of heavy foods or sausages, but the ones at DBGB are absolutely amazing... must go-to place. We noticed a lot of patrons having the burgers and insisted on not having the burgers the first night we were there, however, we tried it the second night and absolutely loved it! Everything was perfect and couldn't ask for anything more."

"The food is carefully prepared with great attention to detail. Everything had a distinct flavor and texture. The traditional French sausage was good, I just happen to find it a little too rich, as well as the mashed potatoes. The Nicoise was delicious. Instead of anchovies they used sardines, which was a nice touch, even though I missed the pungent saltieness of the former. I would rate it above average but not out of this world good.

However, the ambiance of the place was special. I loved the diningroom which is clubby with amber lights and leather seating, but it was also very modern. Functional shelving was a great idea and the mirrors in the bar is cool. overall place looks better than the food."

"Our lunch experience was satisfying and pleasant. The food was very good; I expect that the Restaurant Week specials are probably less exciting/satisfying than normal dining, tho everything was very good. "First time dining at DBGB, and it was outstanding. It's an open kitchen, so the energy of the entire restaurant was great, I love seeing everything in action. The service was impeccable, my water glass would go down an inch and it was immediately refilled. I never had to pour myself any wine, the bowls for mussel shells were replaced before it was even half-full. The duck entree was heaven, it melted in my mouth. Best of all, the desserts! The mint sundae was amazing, and the meyer lemon tart was the perfect balance of sour and sweet."

"A new experience for us in NYC. The look and feel of this new DB resturant has all that you expect, except for service. While the wait staff is plenty at the resturant, we found ourselves at a 5pm reservation waiting for our server on many occassions. The food was an experience and very good. "We were disappointed in the absolute lack of value, and the nickel and diming. For $25, a lobster roll should be large, tasty and come with fries. Instead, the lobster roll had about 3 tablespoons of bland, chewy lobster salad draped across a baguette. For $6 more, you got fries. While one of my companions really enjoyed the mussels, again, for $25, he should have gotten some bread or fries. My eggs were fine, but nothing special. The high point was the ice cream sundae, which was delicious (but for $9, could you really expect less?). You go to this place for the scene, not the food - and the fact that we were sat next to a table with 5 screaming kids did not help the overall experience. We won't be back."

"I loved the decor and the open feeling in the back of the restaurant. We had the tuna crudo and the Viennese sausage for appetizers and for dinner we had the two sausage entree (Vermont and Espagnole) and the pasta. Both of the cheese based sausages were excellent! The pasta was also very good, although the shrimp was very tiny. There is a great beer menu. The service is very good. I recommend using the coat service because seating is tight when it is busier. There are great group tables and the view of the kitchen is great."

"We took clients here for dinner and they loved the restaurant. We found the food to be very good; however, the coctails was comical in that they were on the very, very small side. never quite saw a martini glass that tiny!!

The one real negative was the service. Found our waiter not to be fitting for the restaurant.

Think you need to do a better job in that department. There are so many fabulous restaurants and choices where food and service are both great. DBGB's needs the same to have staying power."

"While the food was good, I am a little wary of a restaurant that can turn out a medium well burger is 2 seconds flat. My rare one was cooked perfectly, but it felt and looked a bit too assembly line for me. Fries should have been hot- not. And I felt like I was eating some burger with my fries...
When my dining companion described the wine that she wanted and the waiter took with the order, he returned not with her choice but with an alternate suggestion- and the server already had it. Again, a bit forced.
Don't waste the calories on the ice cream...
Will I go back- yes. When the hoopla dies down. Not before."

"I went for lunch with my boyfriend because they have a very reasonably priced lunch menu. I ate a butter lettuce salad (probably the most boring salad I've eaten in years), sausage with hashbrowns (passable) and a coffee/chocolate sundae (delicious, but we're talking about ice cream here.) Overall it cost $22 for a meal that would have been just as tasty (though not as fancy) at any self-respecting diner for half the price and twice the portion size. I may go back to try the burgers, but I'm not terribly impressed overall. Also, it seems like they have trainee waiters during lunch... they all seemed sort of nervous and made some mistakes. Not a big deal, just seemed strange at a high end restaurant."

"Burgers were very good and at 6 ounces the perfect size - I usually need to cut burgers in half. Pasta dish was underseasoned and I was disappointed in the cocktails - too much wierdness, not enough deliciousness. Wine list could be more approachable (price wise)for a menu serving sausages and burgers, but there are plenty of interesting and affordable beers. "I had brunch at 11:30 on a Saturday. We got a booth in a good spot and it wasn't too crowded yet. Everything was very good. Nothing blew me away though. I thought the $19 frenchie burger topped with pork belly might, but it didn't. Very good, yes, but not amazing. I would try the plain burger plus add-ons next time. "for saturday lunch, the atmosphere is lively, and congenial, which is the best thing about the place. this was our second visit and we learned that it's best to stick to the basics...sausages, mussels and fries, etc. (all fantastic.) but don't bother with the more expensive entrees. i had the sole...and at over 22 dollars, it wasn't worth the price. bland, and a rather sad presentation. my counterparts meals were similarly lackluster. what soured us on dbgb, however, was the service. it's adequate, but there's a lack of warmth and a whiff of hauteur that's simply not warranted. when one of my companions declined a starter, the server was clearly displeased. and that they charge top dollar for house bottled seltzer h20 is highly offensive."

No excuse of over cooked, under seasoned food. Although I will say we did enjoy the various sausages we shared as a starter and nobody ordered a burger which apparently what is suppose to be great. We ordered regular entree items, Lamb Duo, Lobster pasta special, Ribeye steak and Skate and all 4 dishes were just OK at best. Lamb was ordered med rare and came out med well and needed tons of salt to bring out the flavor. Ribeye was ordered med rare and came out med and had silverskin that had to be cut around... who did the butchering? Lobster in the pasta was overcooked..."
