Nationally acclaimed regional Italian Cuisine served in a 19th Century 3 Story Brownstone. Mamma Maria's overlooks America's oldest public square in the heart of Boston's historic North End.
"The food was very good, our server was attentive without being overbearing. It is not your average Italian restaurant that serves Chicken parmigiana, lasagna ...etc. The only criticism is that some of the dishes are a bit pricey for the portion that they give you."

"My parents were visiting from the UK two years ago and I took them and my in-laws to Mamma Maria to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Two years later we returned with them again and had the most memorable time. Mamma Maria's is a place where you want to push the boat out and indulge. From the wonderful food, to the great wine list, impeccable service, and great atmosphere, Mamma Maria's is one of those venues that will always be on our list of extra special restaurants that we return to time and again."

"I've been to Mamma Maria numerous times in the past and always had a great experience, but this time was different. Our waitress seemed to focus on the more lucrative tables, making us feel like an afterthought. The quality of the food and the presentation went down a notch. We waited a while for our food, which arrived lukewarm. Not to the point that warranted a complaint, but it certainly wasn't piping hot as it should have been. There was a very loud party of 6-8 people in our tiny room, so it was difficult to hold a normal conversation with all the noise. I felt like I was at a pub, not a high-end restaurant. With so many other options for high-end Italian restaurants in Boston, I doubt that I will return to Mamma Maria."

"I'm convinced after almost thirty years of visiting Mamma Maria's that this is a neighborhood restaurant first, filled with North End/Bostonians first, and tourists after. Their food is really, very good, although we were a little surprised they had no specials this Saturday night. Try one of the house's specialties, their veal chop. Outstanding! And the white polenta is actually extraordinary."

"We enjoyed our dinner quite a bit. My wife had cod with mussels and calamari, and I had the crab/clam pasta. Both were quite good, and I would gladly order them both again. The prices were reasonable, and our waiter was this nice young man from Guatemala who was very attentive without over doing it."

"After driving to MA from Oregon, and having Mama Maria's be recommended by a restaurant loving relative from Albany, N.Y., we decided to take a chance on a special occasion while visiting a sister in Leominster, MA. We needed a short walk from parking because of an old ankle injury to one of our members, so the valet parking worked well. Then the relaxed atmosphere, quiet and attentive service, incredible food selection, and excellent use of ingredients and presentation made our meal a perfect experience. Thank you so much for a great evening!"

"Mamma Maria is in a quaint, small brick building in a quieter area of The North End. There are 5 small (dining) rooms with tables. We were seated on the 2nd floor in a corner near the windows. The food and service were top notch, from our Prosecco & Carpaccio beginning to the chocolate torte dessert. We had the Osso Buco & Rabbit Pappardelle for our main dishes, both of which were delicious. The prices are high, but that is expected for a fine dining experience like this. I especially liked the note on the menu asking patrons to NOT use their cellphones while in the dining room! If you want to treat yourself to something special, I'd highly recommend you try this place!!"

"This was my second time at Mamma Maria's; the first time was more than ten years ago. It's still a wonderful restaurant with great ambience and creative (northern?) Italian dishes. This is not the place to go for an American Italian meal with lots of red sauce and cheese. This is where you spend an evening trying dishes that feature layered flavors and well-cooked vegetables, meats and fish."

"The rabbit stew is delicious, as are the lobster raviolis. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained the dishes as if he was reading a novel. I went with a group of 6, with a reservation- good wine, appropriately sized servings. Everyone enjoyed their dishes- bolognese, halibut, clam pasta.
Our reservation was for 8:30 on a Saturday night- it was a bit too quiet (a little stuffy too) for my family's liking. It picked up eventually..and we had no problem livening the place up.
The exterior of the building and location off of Hanover is very nice- sets the tone well."

"Best Panna Cotta I have ever had! I enjoyed the halibut but the food was definitely not worth the price. The server was pleasant and helpful with menu choices. The atmosphere is romantic and comfortable. I will only return for the panna cotta and coffee. There are better restaurants in the neighborhood for a much better price."

"Mamma Maria is one of my favorites in the North End. The food is always spectacular, the wine is always perfect and the service is superior. The only bad review I can give is that the noise level is distracting to what we wanted to be a romantic evening. Most visits I have sat downstairs, but this past time we were seated upstairs and placed in between 3 tables that were at least 4-6 large. It was hard to relax with so much chatter and yelling happening. So what we wanted to be a quiet, romantic evening kind of turned sour because at times we found ourselves yelling across the table to hear what each other was saying. Non the less, our waiter was charming and the food was tasty, which made up for the ambiance."

"Off on Hancock Street on North, this is a wonderful North End Italian gem. Superb food, attentive but non-obtrusive service, and reasonable noise. They do tend to rather pack them in on the second floor where we ate so not a place for private conversation. Ask for a table by the front window where you can see the North End quaintness while also seeing the Boston skyline."

"My wife, son (14 yrs old) and I chose Mamma Maria for a pasta dinner the night evening before the 2013 Boston Marathon. The restaurant is in a well kept building in the North End with nice views of the streets of Little Italy from the second floor windows. We were greeted at the front door by the Maitre d' and shown to our table immediately despite having arrived 10 minutes prior to our reserved arrival time.
Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable providing well informed advice on course selections.
The food was good - no complaints. My son and I both had pasta bolognese. A pretty simple dish of fresh pasta and meat sauce. As a starter we shared tuna tartare which was quite a nice dish and seemed to be popular among other tabl"

"We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. Ordered a bottle of wine that took 20 minutes to arrive at our table. When we got the check, the wine ordered was apparently not the one we ordered. It was $20 more. Our waiter could not be found. We just paid the check in utter frustration. The wine list did not offer anything under $46 for a bottle of wine and most are over $100.
This is not a traditional restaurant that serves traditional Italian food. For example, no Caesar salad, only one pasta dish, no veal or chicken. Could not find a tomato in the place! But this was our fault for not reviewing the menu online. Just assumed it was Italian given its prominent location in North End."

"Wonderful dining experience! I had the fava bean appetizer which was served in a parmesan crisp and the asparagus ravioli. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. My date had the lamb two ways which was tender and delicious. The server was professional, friendly and efficient. The atmosphere was welcoming and the decor elegant. All in all this place is a 10."

"My daughter and I were on a college visiting trip to Boston so this was the perfect special place to cap off our time in Boston. Food was amazing. Service excellent. Our room overlooking the cobblestone streets was charming. If it were warmer it would have been great to have the sliding glass doors open to add to the ambience. A truly wonderful place to celebrate with my daughter. We will be back!"

"A very nice place to have dinner with a date, a significant other, or a group of friends that enjoy good food. The only notable downside was that the tables were a little bit close together (even on a Thursday night), but fortunately we didn't have any loud people around us, so it wasn't much of a problem."

"the food was good, but based on my expectations from reading reviews of the place, I expected more. A lot more. The tuna tartare, although very fresh, was missing any kind of seasoning or textural contrast. The scallops app was tasty, but have had the same at a lot of places that were not so expensive. I had the rabbit pasta dish, and it was very flavorful. Service was friendly, attentive and thoughtful. It's a classic upscale North End Italian restaurant, the kind of place everyone should try- that's why I'm recommending it.But I've a lot of other North End places to go back to, or try the first time, before I come back."

"Mamma Maria's was outstanding in several aspects. The location was fantastic - right in the heart of the North End, Boston, over- looiking the Paul Revere House. The service was impeccable! Our server Cali (spelling?) was extremely attentive. No worries about some members of our party being late for the reservation. The food and wine was scrumptious; Vermont raised rabbit with home made papparadelle for several in our party was thoroughly enjoyed. The Veal Osso Bucco was another big hit. Very comfortable seating and quiet atmosphere was enjoyed by all in our party. We never felt rushed. The staff was very friendly. They obviously wanted to make sure we enjoyed our Easter Sunday dinner!"
