Il Casale is located in the heart of Belmont at 50 Leonard Street. Acclaimed Chef Dante de Magistris and his brothers Damian and Filippo, the team behind the celebrated Restaurant Dante in Cambridge, have joined forces once again to bring rustic, authentic Italian cuisine to their hometown. The cucina Italiana, which is housed in Belmont’s historic firehouse, offers a beautiful brick patio, white marble bar, and barnwood tables for a unique and enjoyable dining experience. "I made a special order to replace the spaghetti alla chitarra with the Bolognese sauce instead of carbonara. The waiter was very conscientious; he got what my wife wanted with absolutely no fuss. Great job! The servers really work as a team, too; never letting the customer wait, but also not rushing people. My veal was a little dissappointing, but overall the quality of the food is excellent. The calamari were divine, and I really enjoyed the deep fried lemon slices. I asked for a birthday plate of fritelle (Venetian fried dessert) and the restaurant gave us a delicious bowl of homemade vanilla gelatto. The restaurant is a little too noisy for me, but overall we had a great experience."

"A party of 6 adults, we celebrated my father's 78th birthday here at the recommendation of a friend who lives locally. From start to finish, it was a fabulous evening. Our service was exceptional, our primary waiter was the best we've had anywhere... knowledgeable, gracious, very polite. He did not push anything on the menu but described everything perfectly and answered all questions. Never pushed anything on us, and yet was attentive the entire meal, while never interrupting a conversation ! Very impressive. The entrees themselves were delicious, and not overly sized, well-proportioned and elegantly presented. Wine was superb and we never had to ask to have our glass replenished. Lively and friendly ambience."

"Clearly the kitchen did not fire up our entrees when they were supposed to do so. We waited over 45 minutes for our entrees after the salad was cleared. The manager did everything he could think of (except reduce the bill) to make it up to us: more bread; more wine; a dessert. But, I wish he had just told us the truth. Instead, he said, "Well, every entree is prepared individually and fresh." Oh, really, so everyone who had their food in a timely manner did not have freshly prepared food? When the food came, it was very good. But, I must remember to stick with the fish at il Casale. That, and the Burrata, is the way to order. I will return again, but never on Mothers' Day."

"This was our first time here. We are so glad we finally made it. The front of the house was very accommodating to us considering we were late for our reservation. We all were thankful for your patience. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food. We had a very nice server. He was able to give us a good suggestions for wine pairings with our meals. Our only criticism would be the noise level in the restaurant. At times it was difficult to hear each other. Despite the noise level, we will definitely be back for the great food!"

"We chose Il Casale because we had heard good things and it was nearby. The food was superb--my Sicilian Roast Chicken was tender, moist, and tasted great! Everyone else loved their choices as much as I did mine. We had a 4-year-old and 2-month-old with us and were concerned about how kid-friendly the restaurant would be, but everything worked out great! Though not a "family restaurant," other parties also had young children and the ambience was perfectly suitable (especially for the 4-year-old, who loved being helped up by his Grandpa to watch the cooks rushing around like crazy in the exposed kitchen!). The service was wonderful--very friendly, yet professional and knowledgable.
The only drawback--it's a bit overpriced."

"This unique Italian restaurant that is in an old fire station has everything going for it. Our reservations were honoredon time which was a good start. Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Our apps were outstanding only to be out done by the main course.

"All the right things in the wrong places. I thought the service was exceptional. Appetizers were right size, but lacked robustness. Entrees were presented in a wonderful way, but were over stimulating in taste. Desserts tried to hard, and when they should have been sweet they were bitter, and when they were should have been bitter they were sweet. If you are into bizzaro dining when you get the opposite of what you expect, then this is the place for you."

"Il Casale is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the Greater Boston area. This time we went for our anniversary. We like to dine there as the Italians would. Sip a glass of Proseco while deciding on some antipasti. Ordering the apps. Then enjoy a salad while we order a bottle of wine. Then it's on to a half pasta order before the entree, in this case the monkfish for me and the trout for him. We don't always have room for dessert, but this time we shared a piece of lemon pound cake with a lemon basis sauce and my husband went for a flight of grappas. We both had espresso. We like to make it a dining experience. The way a meal should be. Long and leisurely. Always a treat doing so at Il Casale."

"Bolognese is excellent. It's even better the second day as leftovers. A tad expensive a sirloin costs 39.00 and very few wines under 40.00. Arancini is light on inside and crispy on outside. Modern pastry's dessert chef with awesome tiramisu !"

We were there at 8:30 on a Saturday night...very active and loud. About 3/4 hour later people began to leave and we could hear much better. The food was excellent...2 couples in our party and everyone was well-pleased with their dinners. The beef tartare app. was a hit. Salads were fresh with light dressings. I ordered the wild boar gnocchi which was delicious. The bread was also good.
Our only complaint was the service. Our server went through the motions...seemingly disinterested in his job. He definitely could have appeared more engaged.

"We are regular customers at this fabulous restaurant, but had our first sub-par experience on Easter Sunday. It was early dinner and the room not too full but service was slow, starting with a 20 minute wait just to order. Then we needed to ask the manager for bread for the table, and had to ask the waiter (when we could find him) for items we'd ordered which didn't arrive with the meal. The food was also just so-so and the Prosecco wine was flat, a disappointment since everything is usually wonderful. Our foodie friends were first-timers there, and wanted to know why we'd recommended it - kind of embarrassing, especially for the high prices. Doubt they will return, but we will give it another try."

"It is a delight to have Il Casale so close to us. In the renovated firehouse in Belmont center, the space is both open but still warm and inviting. The service is always uniformly great, knowledgable, welcoming. And the food.... wonderful. Takes on traditional Italian dishes are all very special. Pork meatball and arancini appetizers....Yum! . Broken lasagna and their take on veal scallopini both highly recommended. A wonderful wine list as well. Do not miss if local, and well worth the trip from anywhere. Lastly, Il Casale has saved us cooking on Christmas eve and Easter Day. In both cases, they put together traditional holiday menus as well as the open menu for those occasions."

"This was our 3rd time dining at the restaurant. The ambiance is cozy and warm even with the high ceilings. Appetizers are delicious and especially the meatballs and mussels. Some appetizers can be shared. The veal is tender and flavorful and the polenta is creamy and the best I have ever tasted. My husband enjoyed every morsel of his pasta carbonara and the trout was beautifully prepared. Service was gracious and helpful. We will return."

"Outstanding food, especially the entrees.
We had a rather brusque waiter - as though he really didn't want to be having to take care of customers.
We were pleased that our request for a quiet spot was honored.
An altogether pleasant experience - we've been several times and certainly do plan to return."

"2nd visit. Food is fabulous. Everyone in our group of 3 had something different and we all raved about our dinner. We went on a Sunday night when the restaurant was busy but not at full capacity. It was noisy but not overwhelming. Service was attentive. We will be back."

"This was our first time dining at Il Casale- fabulous experience! If you do not want to trek into the North End for your Italian fix, this gem in Belmont center is a perfect choice! The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The service was very attentive. And the food was out of this world!! Great selection of primi, secondi, etc.- small and large portions avialble so we could try a variety of offerings. Quality of the food was delicious and good presentation. Overall it is a restaurant that can frequent- we will be back!!"

"The food was excellent with a good variety of small plates, pasta dishes, entrees and sides. A great meal could be made of small plates alone with a glass of wine. The salads were the weakest part of the menu, but other options more than compensated. Bold flavors, interesting interpretations, plenty to chose from with a good wine list and several great selections by the glass. Good value for the price. Our waiter seemed a bit impatient, which was surprising since it wasd a snowy Sunday night and the place was half full and at times the staff was too eager to refill water galsses and bus the table. Reminded us of La Morra in Brookline, a family favorite. We'll be back."

"We were a party of 4. Some of us had been there before and were amazed the waiter remembered our wine preferences. The food was tasty and portioned just right. The butternut ravioli were so tender and the steak cooked perfectly. The pork leg special was so tender it fell off the bone and melted on the mouth. We did miss the pasta fagioli soup. A great time was had by all and we will definitely return."

"On a recent Friday night, we made our first trip to Il Casale. It was a great environment, with tremendous food and great service. I recommend making a meal of the small plates - they were all tremendous! It is a little pricey for the amount of food you get, but it's well worth it for a special occasion."

"I've had great experiences here in the past and the food has always been very good to great. This time, however, my friend and I were virtually ignored when we sat down. The table next to us, a foursome which sat down after us, got served water and a dish of lemons immediately, then the woman with the water pitcher walked right by us without filling our glasses. We waited 5-10 more minutes and then I finally flagged down someone and asked if we could have some water. Someone came and filled our water glasses and then we waited 10 more minutes for the waiter to come over and tell us the specials and take our drink order. I flagged down the same woman and asked her to send our waiter over. He came in a few minutes and then all was fine."
