We welcome you to Chez Lucienne bistro, the first authentic restaurant in Harlem where you will find signature French Classics with a touch of Provence. "Overall, the experience was pretty good, but far from memorable. A few points:
- For a Sunday (Father's Day, no less) during the early brunch time hours, I was quite surprised how empty the restaurant seemed. I had made a reservation, but clearly I didn't need it
- The waitstaff was very friendly, and the service was very prompt. Within 20 minutes of sitting down, we were already dining
- That being said, however, I was disappointed that, despite the restaurant being barely occupied at the time, two of the entrees on their brunch menu were unavailable. I venture to say that's unacceptable, particularly because we were seated during the early hours of Sunday Brunch.
- The food itself was good, though nothing to write home about."

"Would I have liked more garlic and salt on my escargot? For the love of God, yes. (Please, chef, these should be cooked with a LITTLE bit of garlic and a touch of sea salt. They were bland.) That aside, we liked our meal very much. The service could not have been more accommodating. Pate, sliced duck with arugula, lamb shank, shared a profiterole. Nice crowd. Relaxed atmosphere but you still feel special. I was here in December and had a similarly good experience."

"My family went there and we were pleased with everything. The food was authentic bistro food, very well done (I had coq au vin, my wife had rabbit), but they also have burgers and such for kids. The staff were very pleasant (and French-speaking, though of course perfect in English too). We sat outside in summer and enjoyed the Harlem pavement life--something much more elusive further downtown. The clientele was pleasantly mixed, in all respects. A great alternative to Red Rooster next door, and no busloads of European tourists."

"This pioneer of Lenox Ave. has only gotten better. The food is fantastic and the service very nice. We observed a couple of birthday celebrations and they really went all out for them with sparklers and ice cream sundaes that certainly out shine the typical cupcake and candle! Nice place, active and a good outdoor seating option."

"Food was good-pate was tasty, the gnocchi was rich/comfort food dish. Cobb salad was loaded with delicious toppings. Service...at first we were ignored, then either the staff was deciding who had us-or didn't want us-then one person took our order before another took over. All fine, just bumpy. I'll go back for the food-maybe for one of the special menu nights. Hopefully with service that makes me feel a little bit more welcomed."

"My husband was really excited to go when we visited New York. Very disappointing. The tables are so close together it is like dining communal style with your neighbors. Do not expect any level of privacy! We started with the escargot. Horrible! We are convinced they came out of a can or jar. Endive with Roquefort salad was fine. I had the snapper. Hubby had the duck. Both were OK but unremarkable. There were no specials. Another restaurant was right next door with lines outside the door. We know why. Server had no personality. He did his job & got us our food, period. At the end of the meal we engaged him in conversation & he was quite pleasant."

"The restaurant is very noisy. We could not hear the waiter talking to us and when he informed us that they did not have certain dishes we did not hear him. When he returned to take our order and my wife ordered an 86'ed item he stated I told her we do not have that was she listening? She selected an item and requested that an ingredient be left out when the food came up in the window the ingredient was in the dish. The food was taken into the kitchen the ingredients removed and the dish served! Our waiter checked on our satisfaction of our food as the last plate was being removed. The staff was very busy attending to regulars and could not have cared less about customers like us, the one time out of towners."

"Chez Lucienne is good French bistro with a noise-level unmatched since the artillery fell silent on the Western Front. Don't come here with a group. Come only with someone you are already comfortable yelling at or who is pleasant to look at but not worth listening to. Actually, don't bother with a pretty companion either, since it is too dark to see across the table, much less read the menu. The tables are so close together that you will leave knowing everything your neighbor wanted to say to his date, though she won't have heard a word of it.
I can't recommend Chez Lucienne based on my experience there—but if they turned down the speakers and turned up the lights, I might. If they switched the speakers off, I would."

"Chez Lucienne was perfect. Great dishes, done in a traditional bistro style. Our server was prompt and personable plus well informed about the options.
We were informed that brunch was ending soon and were given the choice about which menu we would like to order. The bread was out guickly, the food came in a reasonable time after as well as lovely drinks.

"We said in our reservation that we were coming for drinks and music but planned to eat after the show. We were seated by the service window, which was very hot with no view of the stage. A couple who could see the stage were about to leave, so we ordered a drink, and asked our waiter if we could move? Yes. The couple lingered, but another waiter agreed we could have that table. We still had no drinks. They left, but we were now told we COULDN'T have the table, because it was for three and there was a reservation. We were disappointed, but accepting. Our drinks finally arrived, as a party of TWO - obviously friends of the waiters - was seated at the table we'd been waiting for (set up for two). We paid our check and left without dinner."

"I had a great meal at Chez Lucienne this past Tuesday--had a 5:30 reservation because we were seeing a show at the Apollo at 7:30.
My wife and I were seated promptly and the service was good, not great, perhaps because this place fills up quickly, and there was a shift change of waiters in our section. I had a fois gras appetizer that was delicious followed by a duck breast with wild rice and a dessert of tarte tatin. My wife settled on two appetizers (french onion soup and a vegetable plate which she liked very much. The nice surprise was that drinks were half price, I had an Absolut Martini, a glass of prosecco and a Remy Martin, all for $6.00 a pop--you can't beat that."

"While the escargot was cooked just enough so that it was tender, I missed the shells and traditional butter / garlic preparation. Not prepared for a green sauce. The duck was unevenly cooked - very rare on bottom, cooked completely on top. The rare portion was tough and chewy. The l'orange sauce was unremarkable and the rice bland.
I won't return."

"The restaurant was very accommodating as I changed my reservation from 12:30 to 2:30 and then my daughter was an hour late. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. The ambience offered local flair among a bustling clientele. The tables for two were very close together, but in this case, it added charm and friendliness. The food was yummy. The mother's day menu was limited, although I don't know if that is the typical brunch menu. I had a sublime french toast with a champagne strawberry sauce. My daughter ate a smoked salmon eggs benedict which came over a perfectly prepared potato pancake. To die for! We started with a carafe of bloody mary--nicely spicy. I will definitely return to be seated outside."

"This was my first time dining at Chez Lucienne. I had a wonderful dining experience. I will definitely return very soon. The waitstaff was pleasant and friendly. The food was DELICIOUS. I ordered the POULET AU CURRY (Skinless and boneless free-range chicken, curry sauce, fresh mango, mango chutney, white rice.) with a side of mixed veggies....My date ordered the BAVETTE DE BOEUF GRILLEE (Grilled herb marinated skirt steak, red wine shallot sauce and french fries.) substituting the fries w/ mashed potatoes. We had a nice time and look forward to returning very soon. The ambiance was very nice. The noise level was moderate. Looking forward to dining again on an warm evening so that we can dine outside. :-) Thank you."

"I absolutely loved the food here! The space is quite small, but the service was still exceptional!! The entire wait staff was very attentive at every table. The bar scene was not the best as the bartender was out of A LOT of stuff for it to be a Friday night. I would definitely come back! Please make a reservation for this place!"

"This is a friendly and lively place which has live music on some evenings. The food is good, well cooked and served. The staff are attentive and congenial. This is a very nice way to spend an evening. Maybe when there is music, talk is a little suppressed but that is not surprising. The musicians are worth listening to anyway. "I was excited to try this restaurant, which I pass by every day on my way to work, however given my lackluster dining experience, I will certainly not come back. I figured an outdoor lunch would be appropriate given the beautiful weather, but I felt as if my party was ignored, maybe because we were not tourists (the only parties that were given "special treatment"), and I even was served a warm beer, my hamburger was not cooked the way I asked, and the leaf pile aka salad they served as an appetizer was quite overpriced for the bland and untasty and limp mixed greens that they were."

"Had dinner on a Saturday night. The food was good but took a little long. Pretty noisy for a french restaurant but hey, it's Harlem. "This is a favorite spot of ours and the friends we brought with us are converts, they loved it! The steak au poivre, curry chicken and poulet roti were perfect. The pommes frites are worth another hour on the stairmaster, they are THAT good. We finished it all up with the profiteroles which were a delicious ending to a wonderful meal!"
