"KG has always been a bit overrated but is a fun place to share plates. We did that Saturday night with another couple-interesting bruschetta, plate of ribs (good), roasted chicken with tomatillo (good) and steak (very good). Well prepared French fries but who wants them with really hot chiles chopped into them? Also, note to chefs everywhere: enough already with the house-made ketchups; Heinz is fine! Calamari good but it was an Asian salad without enough calamari in it. Really good desserts-tres leches cake and hot apple/cherry fruit skillet. Service is a tad slow, as it always has been, and the server was overly aggressive in pushing an octopus salad special. Good place; good bye; good luck with the new fish joint!"

"This was a great neighborhood find! My wife and I went for our 4 year anniversary and we were not disappointed! The pot de creme was the cherry on top of an innovative meal. If you go during the early bird special you can do a pre-fix meal and have several different options and they are all fabulous! Not to mention happy hour drinks at the same time!"

"We had a really fun time and although I would not call it an ideal kids' restaurant, our one well behaved child fit in just fine and loved the food and the fact that they were willing to cater to his desire for "regular fries". So good, he had two orders although the rest of us helped out a bit."

"I have been to Kensington Grill about 4 times since I moved to San Diego in 2009 and have been increasingly less satisfied with each visit. I made a reservation via Open Table last weekend. The reservation was at 7:30 and at 6:50 I received a call from Kensington Grill to tell me that they had to cancel my reservation due to construction in the area. Nothing like a last minute cancellation on a Saturday night. Fortunately, we were able to get an 8:30 reservation at The Red Door in Mission Hills, which turned out to be a perfect meal / evening. I won't be back to Kensington Grill."

"My husband and I went to the Kensington Grill to have one last dinner there before they shut down and reopen as a seafood restaurant. As always, our food tasted great. I had the endive / beet salad and the pork tenderloin. The sauce on the tenderloin is delicious! My husband had the mussels and sea bass. He enjoyed both, but had wished that our server would have told him that the mussel dish was so large - at least 24 mussels which is a meal in itself. But, since the food was so good, he managed to eat the entire sea bass plate. The only reason I gave 3 stars for the service is because it appeared that they were short on staff that evening. I recommend that you go to the Kensington Grill before they switch their menu in May."

"The food was adequate and the service was ok. It was too loud for my waitress to hear me I had to shout. The burgers were tasteless. The bun was too dry and the meat lacked flavor. My boyfriend had the house cherry come and it tatsed like Nyquil. The presentation of the food was good. Overall my experience was fair. I was expecting something more for my money. I am glad to see Tracy kept Chef Arturo's banana bread pudding. It was delicious then and almost as amazing this time around. By far it was my only favorite part of dinner."

"All time favorite is not so much - 15 min wait for 2 cocktails! Really? Our waiter was not on the ball. We had brought guests and were embarrassed as to the less than acceptable experience. Had to send back shrimp and waffles as the shrimp tasted like iodine. Calamari salad always a winner - now it's calamari and bean sprouts! And the wait between courses was ridiculous. We've been there with KG from the beginning through Garth, Katie, Sarah, Joe and Dustin. Always had a great time and fabulous food. What happened? And we're not in the 'hood. Not sure if we'll be back; at the very least we won't bring guests!"

"This place is fabulous. The food is consistently fresh, drinks are strong, and service is flawless. We had Mark as a server and he was extremely hospitable as well as entertaining. I always ask servers for their opinions between a few options and he was spot on with what to order. Also, they have a Happy Hour special on Saturday nights ($5 tequila infusions) so it's worth going just for a beverage or two. Portion sizes are just right. Warning: their Sazerac is delicious but intense! I recommend this for anything ranging from a romantic dinner to girls' night out."

"I have been going to this restaurant since it first opened (have not been in about 6 years)and have always loved it but this visit was AWFUL! The 3 bruschetta's we had were bland and boring, the pasta was okay but the sausage on top was inedible and the dessert just so-so.
Our server was friendly and accommodating but she disappeared after dropping the check when we had clearly stated that we were trying to get to the movie next door and needed to pay and go. We tried to get another server to take the check but they only kept trying to find her. It was very frustrating to say the least and when she did return she acted as if it was no big deal. Note: Listen to your customers needs!

"It's to cold in your restuarant. My entire party kept their jackets on the whole time. Also, just with half of the restuarnt full, it is so loud that it is hard to hear. I'm 44 not 84. Bread for your small dishes is very tough. Use to go all of the time, probably won't go back for a while.

"The online restaurant week menu listed familiar dishes with some interesting twists.The process of online reservations was simple and straightforward. I wasn't expecting the high noise level but as the night progressed it became less of an issue. The appetizer, calimari salad was very tasty, a nice portion. My guest and I were encouraged by the start of our meal. Unfortunately, it was the highlight of the evening. My pasta was undercooked, somewhat crunchy. The oxtail meat was stringy and overcooked. The bread pudding dessert was microwaved too long, leaving the edges were very chewy. The brulee sugar was burnt. Our waiter was inattentive. A 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill for restaurant week. I begrudgingly paid it"

"From the moment you step in the door, you feel welcomed. Made a reservation for 9 and we were seated right away. Service was fast and courteous. We went during Restaurant Week, so most of us ordered off the menu. Although the oxtail ravioli dish wasn't exactly what we pictured (more like shredded oxtail meat instead of the actual bone-in) it was still good. The chicken dish was cooked to perfection; the meat fell off the bone and it was seasoned well. Although the dishes seem small, they WILL fill you up!"

"Really enjoyed the food here. The shrimp waffle had a ton of flavor, and the pork tenderloin was amazing. One thing which is a must order is the calamari, especially if you like a Japanese style seaweed salad. Also, in looking over the menus it looked like this would be a great happy hour spot for a quiet opportunity to enjoy a game with your significant other."

"We decided to try this restaurant during San Diego Restaurant Week. We loved the kg calamari on the appetizer menu. And the other courses we had were also very good.That being said, the kitchen was VERY SLOW. The wait staff was great, but the wait time between courses was approximately 20-25 minutes. This was unfortunate because we drove from Carlsbad to eat here. It would seem to me that during such a popular event, the restaurant would have been more "in tune" seeming that reservations needed to be made and there was a set menu. I cannot recommend or not recommmend the Kensington Grill."

"We went for San Diego Restaurant Week and we had a fantastic time! We live in the area and have never tried it before and always wanted to so we went for Restaurant Week. The food choices for restaurant week were amazing. My favorite was definitely the mussels. They were cooked with a great sauce and chorizo that really spiced it up perfectly. My husband loved his pesto pasta dish too. You could tell that it's a homemade sauce where you could taste each flavor!"

"Have heard good things about this place for many years, so I thought I would give them a try. Totally not impressed. My soup lacked salt and flavor. The roasted chicken was small, overcooked, and tough like leather. It lacked any appreciable amount of breast meat. The bread pudding was so overcooked that even the liquid sauce could not penetrate the crust."

"We had such a wonderful dining experience at Kensington Grill. There were four of us who came for Restaurant Week. We enjoyed every part of our meal from the Cauliflower/Hearts of Palm Soup - The Pork Chop with Polenta - Chocolate Waffle with Ice Cream. YUM YUM YUM! The ambiance is very comfortable and romantic. "What a surprise! Stop by the area on the way back from El Cajon where our dautgher teaches and we wanted to avoid the traffic. We just wanted a quick meal. All we had were the hamburgers.......they were not "just a hamburger" but rather something very special. My wife had a normal hamburger. I had the wild game hamburger. Both had the wow factor! I really enjoyed mine. The flavors were fantastic and it was juicy!"

"Always love their bread pudding so I had that again. But my husband had their brownie waffle with Bailey's ice cream and espresso caramel sauce and argued that was the better way to end dinner.
We were running late due to traffic and they were amendable to pushing our reservation back 15 min, even during busy restaurant week."

"It was my first time visit there and happened to be a middle of restaurant week. So there were only 2 courses provided, no other a la carte, but those foods were good. The wines were carefully selected, not too expensive but good quality wines. We first thought pre setted 20% gratitude were too much for San Diego restaurant, but surely the server was nice."

"The Ken Grill had an impressive wine list and deals. We dined there during Restaurant Week so it was very busy and noisy. On Wednesdays bottles of wine are half off. The server was a little awkward and seemed overwhelmed with all the people there. I had squid for an appetizer which was very good. Then the hamburger and shoestring fries were also quite delicious. The portions were very large so I ended up taking a box home for lunch (which was still pretty good!) For dessert I had a brownie waffle that was a little bland with coffee ice cream which was very yummy. When the bill came our waitress had forgotten to make the wine half price. All in all the food was good, the service OK, and if its not RW it's kinda overpriced."
