"This is a great place to eat, and is a particularly good value at lunch. Food is delicious, the staff are very friendly, and it's so convenient to Colonial Williamsburg. Be sure to have a meal there while you're in town."

"We were seated next to the service station and kitchen. Trays went over our heads and servers did little dances around each other at our elbows. The crabcake was wonderful but the tenderloin, a real disappointment."

"We had a party of six at noon on a Saturday (3 college students 3 50+ year-olds.) 4th time there,1st time disappointed. Not too busy.
The server was very nice, but the appetizers were VERY slow in coming (Don't believe it was the server's fault). A request for additional toast corners for the crab dip went unheeded (might be server's fault!) The entrees were quite good,but also so very slow in coming.(We were seated for 45 minuted before we saw an appetizer.)
In its favor, our table had a nice corner location, on the porch, and our party of six could hear one another and weren't (I don't think) loud enough to be a distraction to others.
Williamsburg has many nice restaurants. I will go back to them all before I return to Beret's."

"I went with my group of friends to Downtown and asked some cops about a great place to eat and they recomendo this place. I have been to several seafood places throughout Europe and the States, and this is top 3.
I highly recommend to get te grilled catfish sandwich as it is very rich in flavor but subtle at the same time. If you do not like pickles, ask them to take them out. I had a side of crab cake and even though the small piece was $7 it was good."

"The atmosphere and service was outstanding. Too bad the food didn't live up to the expectation. The calamari was excellent, but the she-crab soup was scorched and the filet was so chewey that it could not be consumed. Stop in for a drink, but eat elsewhere."

"This was the 2nd time my boyfriend and I have come here and we had a pleasant evening yet again. This is a very important place to us and I wanted to surprise him for our anniversary. I made a special effort to tell the hostess about our special day when the reservation was made in hopes of a congratulatory greeting from our server but unfortunately none was given. We were however given a complementary split bottle of champagne when we were getting up to leave, which don't get me wrong was very generous and appreciated, but I had hoped for a little recognition in the beggining of the meal to set the tone for the evening rather than an oh by the way I heard it was your anniversary at the end. Overall the service was good and food delicious!"

While the menu is not the most extensive, there are always solid choices and a selection of specials that make each dinning experience special. "The food quality was on a level lower than fast food. The price was extremely high for such a poor quality; the cost would have been fair if adjusted to the same prices you would pay for a .99 fast food item, not the almost $100 tab for two adults and a child and that includes just two beers, so it was not like we were drinking bottles of wine. I would not go back and my friends who are going there on vacation I told to stay clear of this restaurant."

"The food was just so-so. The appetizer sampler was ok: included crab cakes, oysters rockefeller, and calamari. Calamari was a bit "albino" looking but crab cakes and oysters were delish, especially with dipping sauces. Main course that I ordered was quite lacking: it was a pasta with scallops, shrimp and clams with bacon and a pepper jelly or something... Scallops were just so-so, which is too bad since I was really looking forward to scallops and clams were ridiculously tiny. Pasta was totally overcooked and sauce was really missing something? I think if pasta were cooked al dente the whole dish may have been better?? Those clams really threw it down many notches. In a nutshell, there are better restaurants out there, sorry."

"EI had high expectations of Berret's after reading reviews & seeing they're a local favorite. Much to my surprise, the restaurant was decent but nothing spectacular. It's good for a seafood dinner & has a nice ambiance. Diners receive fresh bread & refills on iced tea and soda. The food was nicely displayed. I had the fried shrimp & oysters. They came in a cute mini frier basket and were perfectly fried. Not too sweet, not too breaded. Just right. So dinners are delicious but just not as wonderful as others describe in my opinion. In addition, I did feel packed in the dining area. The manager is definitely pushing fire codes to usher in more patrons and tourists. Berret's is a nice place to stop yet I will not go out of my way for it."

"Very disappointed. We've had excellent lunches in the past and a few good dinners; however, the past two dinners have been extremely bland. I ordered a goat cheese bread pudding as an appetizer and it had absolutely no flavor. I squirted some lemon on it to pep it up a bit. The waiter was very kind but he failed to get my other order right. I wanted the breaded oyster appetizer - raw oysters were brought instead and he apologized and later returned with the oyster special of the night. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was still the wrong order."

"We have been to this restaurant for various occasions including family dinners, lunches, business dinners and lunches and special celebrations and we have enjoyed every visit. The food is always delicious and the menu changes regularly. It is a great place to have seafood but for those in our group who want other options they are just as pleased."

"If you are looking for an enjoyable dining experience outside of the restaurants under the umbrella of Colonial Williamsburg, Berret's is a good choice. It's located in Merchants Square, adjacent to the historical area. We were there off season and found the restaurant to be nice and quiet. I'm sure the outdoor seating area will be bustling during warmer weather. Wines by the glass were generous pours and reasonably priced. The Caesar salad (with anchovies) is presented in a unique manner and tastes good. My wife's lamb was cooked perfectly. Not that we wanted it but our server neglected to tell us about the dessert special (we heard another server mention it). Other than that, I would be happy to return on my next trip to Williamsburg."

"This restaurant was overrated. I was disappointed with the quality of the food and the atmosphere. My crab cake was okay (lots of meat, but not much flavor), but all the sides left something to be desired. My husband's filet mignion looked like a pot roast and had bbq sauce on it (which wasn't articulated well on the menu). Potatoes were sticky (like box mashed potatoes), and veggies were bland. best part of the meal was a glass of wine."

"The food, the ambience, and the service was wonderful. Although many tables were filled when we were there, it was a wonderful change of pace to have a QUIET dining experience without the commotion you normally find in restaurants these days. Service was attentive and very good. I would recommend it, and I would go there again if in Williamsburg."

"Unfortunately the night we were there was a Sunday of the President's Holiday weekend, and our server admitted they were out of several of the foods. They didn't even have olive oil for the bread! He said, we are out of olive oil.
One of our party ordered the chicken dish which was supposed to come w/a mashed potato and instead she was served white rice!!! Can you imagine a restaurant being out of potato?
And she wasn't informed in advance, it just arrived on her plate. I feel she should have been compensated in some way.
I would not return. I was disappointed. I know it is February and a holiday weekend, but I would hope the kitchen could plan a little better to have potato and oil."
