"Myself and my grandfather go to Pican every Sunday because he loves the food. As time has went on I especially love the service. The staff all knows us there now, and caters to us as such. Very friendly, knows exactly what I want, and everyone their is like that and we really appreciate that."

"I heard from my former coworkers that this restaurant was great, and decided to make a reservation there to meet an old friend. We were there on a Tuesday, the restaurant was almost empty, so it was really nice and quiet so we could talk comfortably to catch up on all the news. I would imagine the noise level can be different when the place is full.
The host was great, our server was great (don't know their names), and the food was great too. All we had were Caesar saladas, and I expected the usual. But this salad was different - something different in the dressing, and definitely differently cooked chicken. So from the boring this salad was elevated to super tasty! We also had cocktails, Pican punch, and they were delicious!"

"Good food and atmosphere, high prices. Enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Food is gentrified southern fare. Loved the fried green tomatoes. Menu is heavy on the meat items, so if you're not a carnivore, you're likely to be ordering the side dishes. I tried several and they were all good. The atmosphere is beautiful, it's quiet, the chairs are super comfy and the service impeccable. One of Oakland's best."

"I have been to Pican twice before this most recent visit and was impressed on both occasions. However, I was thoroughly disappointed this past Mother's Day when my brother and I took my mom to brunch there. The service was unusually slow, the food was mediocre, at best, and the atmosphere was windowless and bland (we sat in a back room). Although on a high note, the raspberry mimosas were fabulous. Despite my review, I will give Pican another chance since I have had good experiences with them in the past. Furthermore, I would suggest for special occasions such as this one, Pican should really offer brunch, not only lunch opti and call it brunch, but offer a few breakfast options."

"Took mom to Pican for Mother's day, our server Michael was very thorough and even served as amateur photographer several times per moms mimosa induced requests. The courtesy was without measure, we established that brunch at Pican will be our new Mother's Day custom..oh the food makes you wanna slap ya mama, on Mother's Day while listening to Dear Mama, buff said..chuuuch.."

"Our server was very neglectful. We told her we were going to a concert & ordered everything ahead & gave her credit card.
She forgot the wine entirely & the food still took forever. When we told her we couldn't stay for desert now, she then rushed it out to us so we had to pay for it but could not eat it as now we would be late. We were there for 1.25 hours which should have been enough time Pity. What we did eat was tasty."

"We've been to Pican many times and have never been disappointed. Since the last time we were there, they had changed the menu somewhat, but our favorites were still there. The ribs are incredibly tender and moist and the barbecue sauce they're simmered in has just the right amount of kick. One of our group tried the meatloaf and was so impressed, he insisted we all try a bite. And we all agreed -- who knew meatloaf could be so good? Though the fried chicken is good, the ribs and even the meatloaf are better. If you haven't been to Pican, give it a try. Dinner for 4 with drinks and dessert came to $250, which may be on the high side for regular dining, but it's well worth it."

"Disappointment! Everything started off great. The ambiance is wonderful. Our waitress was a little over the top with personality, which turned out not to be the problem as we were almost completely ignored by the end of the meal. We really enjoyed the cocktails and the dessserts. But a large bourbon selection isn't enough. Everything in between was unsatisfying. The boneless shortrib special was dry and a little on the salty side. The lobster dish was not good. The lobster was chewy. Both dishes were pricey.
All in all, we felt we had a way overpriced meal that didn't satisfy. I don't think we will be returning."

"This was the second time I've been to Pican. For my husband's birthday, we brought our 13 and 10 year old daughters. For picky eaters, they both loved the fried chicken and meat loaf. I also enjoyed the jambalaya risotto. Overall, food was very good. Our server/waitress was not very good, unfortunately. I was disappointed that she did not make our evening special. The hostess knew we were there for a birthday, but somehow the waitress seemed unaware. She did not check on us as until we were almost done with our meal. For an upscale restaurant, I expect excellent service, which we didn't receive. The guy who poured and refilled our water provided better service than the waitress."

"The ambiance at Pican is wonderful. The waiters and maitre'd were very friendly and accommodating, joking with my wife and I and making sure we enjoyed every minute. I booked our reservation online and mentioned that it was my wife's birthday. They gave her a special surprise at the end of our meal which made the whole experience that much more enjoyable."

"disappointing - fried chicken was moist & beef short ribs (the special that night) were moist & tender but severely under seasoned; i also feel it's a bit pricey for what you get. short ribs were $29 for 3 EXTREMELY small pieces,easily one short rib cut into 3 cubes!, 2 tiny baby carrots,& 3 'young' potatoes (small fingerlings i think). THAT WAS IT. if you wanted any kind of starch or veg, it would be an additional dish.
we're foodies and get the whole euro-cheek, small plates concept, and their whole concept of 'nouveau' southern soul, but i feel it was poorly executed here, right down to the dessert. however our server was FANTASTIC! her name is jill. and the drinks are great too!"

"First time there and had Jill as our service person and she made the night. Be prepared for a longer dinner (it's southern style after all)and a few problems with food prep but the staff was enthusiastic and working to be sure the evening went well. "Have had a consistenly excellent dining experiences at Pican! My advice is to remain open and talk to the staff! The won't disappoint you and you will be delighted! This recent visit, my friends and I were gifted with complimentary drinks and dessert and were visited by the head chef and the owner simply because we engaged ourselves with our servers, who recommended us to receive those honors. Not to mention the food and drink are off the hook, but that goes without saying!"
