Beach Chalet Brewery & Restaurant
The Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant is located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park where the park meets the Pacific Ocean. They feature a spectacular ocean view, hand crafted beer, full bar and convenient free parking. They serve a modern American menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Try their 3-6-9 Happy Hour Monday to Friday 3pm to 6pm and 9pm to close they serve a menu of drinks and appetizers that are $3, $6 or $9 for you to enjoy. Other specials include: Prime Rib on Monday nights and Brunch a la Carte Saturdays and Sundays 8am to 2pm.

"I've been to Beach Chalet several times and had good experiences. However our most recent visit on 6/16/13 was not as good of an experience as previous visits. At our reservation time of 10am, the server said the table was being set and we would be seated, however we were not seated until 20 minutes later when I asked again. After we were seated it took another twenty minutes or so to place our order with the waitress. Our breakfast was served after 11:10am, with no recognition of the delay from anyone in the restaurant. Before our food arrived we were starving and asked for some bread, which was promptly delivered, so that was one good aspect of the service.

"Love this lively oceanside spot for sunset at its best! Be sure to make time to see the gorgeous historical murals in the lobby; this is one of my favorite spots to take out of town guests.
Place is buzzing and the food is quite good. They often have a combo at the dinner hour....Check it out!"

"Brought an old friend who I hadn't seen for a while to dinner here on a Friday night. I had requested a window table, which they were able to provide for us--yay! Everything was going great until the music started. It's not that the music was bad; it was just too loud to carry on a conversation, which was the whole point of the evening. Our waiter was often hard to find. And another teeny complaint: I realize this is a beer brewery, but it is in California so I expected a better wine list. On the good side: amazingly it wasn't foggy and we had a ringside seat for the sunset. Best thing on the menu was the scallops--ate every bite."

"I looked forward to having the Beach Chalet Fish & Chips and was very disappointed. The fish batter was thick & gooey and I ended up scrapping most of it off to get to the fish. The chips were ok however the coleslaw was buried underneath and really lacked any flavor. I was surprised how poorly this dish came out."

"We had reservations for 1:30 but arrived early and were able to be seated at the window after a 10 minute wait. The beer sampler was a hit and service is fast and friendly. We both ordered fish and chips but the chips were under the fish so very soggy. Cole slaw difficult to fork as it was in long slivers. Dessert was a vey lovely apple crisp - that had very little crisp- topped with a huge scoop of high quality ice cream. It was a huge serving!
I love the Depression art and tile work on the main floor and the outdoor café is pretty but has no view of the ocean."

"We arrived 10 minutes before 6pm when happy hour ended. We did not get waited on for at least 15 minutes so service was rather slow. Food was good. I had a garden burger and my friend had the regular burger, both with sweet potato fries. Burgers were average, nothing to boast or complain about. Fries were tasty. The lemonade with guava nectar was refreshing as it was a very warm day. We had seats by the window which had a beautiful view of the ocean."

"Yummy food, good service, and what a great view. My visiting relatives loved it. I've always felt the beachfront view there is better than most waterfront views elsewhere in the city. It really feels like you're right on the beach there (without getting sand in your food!) A different, warmer, and more accessible perspective."

"The location is ideal. Just the ride getting there is so scenic. And the smell of the sea air is invigorating. I live in San Mateo and although it is a fair distance, It is worth the drive. And historic aspect of the building and surrounding areas are very interesting. It was nice to do a walk after lunch and check out the windmill."

"The Beach Chalet is most noted for being almost at the edge of the Pacific Ocean - the beach is just across the street, and while one dines, one can watch the waves crashing on the shore, ships sailing by, and a few surfers. The food is good, the service is good and the views are awesome. It's also a good place to dine when the sun sets in the Pacific and you can watch the sun slowly sink into the ocean."

"We waited 20+ minutes after ordering the appetizers before they were served. When we were half finished with them, the entrees arrived on the table. The server and someone else (unidentified) gave completely different explanations. The server dropped a greasy fork into my laptop bag when she cleared the table. They weren't busy. It was just bad service."

"The food, ambiance and crowd at the Beach Chalet was very enjoyable. Views from the restaurant of the beach are unimpeded and add to the dining experience. It is a lively place that caters to a middle age and older crowd during lunch. I've not been there
for dinner, but suspect that a younger crowd enjoys the atmosphere and varied menu.
Overall, it's a great spot to meet friend and family, enjoy the views, and have a well prepared meal. The noise level is loud, so
if a friend or relative is hard of hearing, it will not be a pleasant experience. Other than that, and somewhat leisurely service,

"The noise level is more than just "energetic." You can't even hear your dining companions speak without leaning over towards them, and then they have to raise their voices a couple of notches to carry a conversation - the entire meal. The food was good, but not worth subjecting myself to yet again another bad dining experience at Beach Chalet. We have been here once each year for the last four years, for various occasions, at different times of the day (usually early dinner around 5:30 to beat the crowd), and with varying party sizes. Every time the food took at least 20-30 minutes to get prepared, and once your server brings the food to you, good luck flagging them down for anything else. We've had enough! We won't be coming back!!!"

"We had reservations and waited about twenty minutes for our table. We were warned by our waiter that the bartender was new and a little behind on the drinks so it might be a wait. The beer arrived within 5 minutes but we had to remind the waiter that another drink ordered did not arrive and that showed up after 10 minutes. The food was very good. the starters arrived and after an extended wait, the meals were served. This was on Memorial Day and the restaurant was busy so that should be taken into consideration. The views are wonderful and entertaining (you can see the people on the beach)."

"When we arrived, the host started telling us how busy they were. We had to interrupt her to tell her we had a reservation. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Didn't even taste like BBQ- just like ketchup and the bun was cheap, and fell apart immediately. Cost me $15.
The table next to us got their order wrong 3 times. We were distracted by the constant/unhelpful manager visits to their table. Poor lady just wanted a burger the way she ordered it.
The only saving grace is the giant windows and view. But overpriced, bland service, awful food= tourist trap.
Final complaint: Server did not acknowledge husband's birthday. Also important to mention, spent almost $50 in taxi just to get their too. Should have saved our money and our time."

"We were a party of eight celebrating a graduation. We were seated fairly promptly in a prime corner table that took full advantage of the wonderful view. Service was a bit slow and spotty, but it was a busy day. Food was very good. It's a noisy room, so conversation from one end of the table to another was difficult, but that's always a problem with a large group."

"I've been lucky enought to visit the Chalet well over 60 X in my 8 years in SF. The last 3 visits were mediocre at best but tonite was unacceptable.
Mussels were chewy and unapproachable with minimal flavor to the broth. Scalllops were nice but the sides lack any texture or real character. Restaurant was out of Salmon & Sea Bass and offered Panko crusted Halibut instead. If you are in to eating flat tire with a half jar of salt in the fish & veggies this is the place.

"Great location directly across from the beach. Make reservations for weekends this place gets pretty busy. I was expecting something more upscale but for our group, the overall experience was nice. The food was nicely presented and was good. If you have dairy constraints the dessert menu doesn't offer much. Our waitress was accommodating and offered attentive service appropriate for our group"

"The food was just OK.
The worst part of our experience was our waitress. She was incredibly spacey. The restaurant was not crowded (a Wed night) and she kept forgetting things and then coming by to check on us. For instance, we ordered sweet potato fries as a starter but our meals came and she had forgotten the fries altogether. OK... but then she asked if we wanted another beer and then forgot that. OK....then we ordered dessert and she came by to see how we were and had forgotten our dessert completely. When I asked about it she said it was being cooked (?). What was going on with her? It was weird. I waitressed all through college in SF so I'm pretty patient and forgiving (and a good tipper) but that was just strange!"
The worst part of our experience was our waitress. She was incredibly spacey. The restaurant was not crowded (a Wed night) and she kept forgetting things and then coming by to check on us. For instance, we ordered sweet potato fries as a starter but our meals came and she had forgotten the fries altogether. OK... but then she asked if we wanted another beer and then forgot that. OK....then we ordered dessert and she came by to see how we were and had forgotten our dessert completely. When I asked about it she said it was being cooked (?). What was going on with her? It was weird. I waitressed all through college in SF so I'm pretty patient and forgiving (and a good tipper) but that was just strange!"

"The Great Highway was closed due to construction that day and we could not access the whole strip between Lincoln and Fulton to park in the lot. I don't understand why they didn't have the courtesy to tell me that when I took the time to call them in the morning confirming the size of my party. My parents couldn't turn anywhere and had to go all the way down Great Hwy and back, having to park far, which made for a stressful experience. Same with my sister.
We were squished in a small table meant for 4 people by sticking an extra chair at the end, when there were so many empty tables. Two big parties next to us were so loud we had to ask the waiter to ask them to be quieter. The hostess gave us the wrong menu.... Waiter was good."

"Open Table was fine with reservations. Beach Chalet never responded to emails or phone calls - I didn't know for sure if we were going to go there or not until I arrived in town and physically went there - don't believe the menu on their website! Great view and beer. Some food outstanding, other average, and clam chowder was sour (likely bad clams). Hence, if you're after a great view and beer go for it - if you want good food, keep on truckin - if you want to ask a question (menu, wheel chair access, or anything else) forget it!"

"Drink prices were too high. A cranberry and soda water was $6.00. House gin for gin and tonic, way too expensive. The fish and chips were too breaddy. The crab louie had very little lettuce, seriously, lettuce is cheap, throw on a few more pieces! My mom liked her hamburger."

"Not known for the food, my wife informed me as we headed out to dinner. Why eat somewhere where you don't expect great food? The view.
I had the risotto and I'm sure they left something out. Perhaps it was the salt as it was simply bland, saved by lovely fresh peas. But my wife and daughters all had the Atlantic salmon and were were pleased enough, and my daughter counted 19 bonfires through the fog on the beach.
If you're starved for a beach view, this is your place."

"I have been going to the Beach Chalet for 10+ years. I was very disappointed on our last visit. I had brought two friends with me, one who had been there before, the other, a new comer. The service was slow and inept. We had to ask for bread, our water glasses to be re-filled, more dressing for the crab salad (after the waitress said that the salad had been dressed.) My calamari portion was not as I had remembered. The steak was tough. After we had finished, our waitress came to our table with our check in hand, asked us if we wanted to see a dessert menu. Even if the answer had been yes, we wold have declined, as we did. I will visit again, hoping for a better experience."

"Glad we had a reservation to get in on a busy Friday evening. All the tables have a good view of the water but we were seated by the window. New waitress full of excuses as she failed to put in our appetizer order, took our dinner order 45 minutes after we were seated, and ignored special requests for dressing on the side or substitutions. Nobody made us feel rushed to leave, and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset because of the wait. The salad was a bit heavily dressed but otherwise delicious, fish and chips nothing special, and the scallops were way too salty. Their brewery beer was a tad skunky, would stick with a national brand next time. Come for the view but not the food.."
