"Great food and great service. An unlikely place for a high end restaurant but the the food rivals anything you can find in Boulder. The prices reflect the quality of the food and service, no surprises. The portions were ample and the presentation was beautiful. Our waiter was very attentive but not hovering.
This is not an every day eatery. We spent about a $160 for 3 of us with a bottle of wine. Sooo, save it for special occasions or just stop by for an appetizer and drink, they have a nice bar.
Pros: Excellent food, exceptional service, nice wine list, the decor and bar are fitting of a high end restaurant. Cons: Location - strange location for an upscale eartery, the outdoor patio protrudes into their parking lot."

"We've eaten at Sugarbeet twice and love it! The appetizers were unique and delicious. Four of us shared two entrees -- Colorado lamb chops and Scallops (with crab on avocado) -- outstanding. Then we had dessert. Wonderful meal! We'll be back."

"Second visit to this great gem of a place. Imaginative food prep - huge portions, wonderful service and very extensive menu and wine list. Only issue for us is SOUND - way too loud in large dining area. Ask for the smaller area if this is an issue for you or others in your party. Would and will recommend to others"

"Just to preface this review - i have been to tons of high-end restaurants in Toronto, NYC, LA, and London. I've been to Sugarbeet twice in the last couple months. Each time has been a fantastic experience. I love the fact that the menu changes - it encourages me to branch out and try different things. I don't think you could choose a bad dish at this place - the chef(s) clearly know what they're doing with seasonal, local, fresh ingredients. Will 100% go again! Not only was the food memorable in both taste and looks, but the service has been impeccable. Great job Sugarbeet! Keep doing what you're doing!"

"Sugarbeet gets better and better, a definite improvement from a couple years ago. The asparagus appetizer is outstanding! My wife ordered scallops and she said every bite was excellent. One of our guests and I had the Alaskan Halibut. She liked it; I found the mustard-like sauce a bit dominating, but the fish itself was done perfectly. Our other guest had the pork and he liked it very much. While you wouldn't call Sugarbeet's wine list "notable," it is quite adequate and matches up well with the food offerings. (We had a reasonably-priced Pinot Gris.) The service is always good, and the ambiance is casual and very comfortable. I would rate Sugarbeet equal to some of the better restaurants in Boulder."

"The Sugarbeet is a nice restaurant in a town that needs more up-scale eateries. We were generally pleased, although on this night, the server was less than attentive. the food was good and the selections were diverse. The wine list is good, but could feature a few more special bottles for those who are looking for something more."

"The meal was prepared and presented very well. Service was very good. The room can be loud due to its size and abundance of hard surfaces, but we knew that from past experience. We noticed that one table moved to the bar area because of a loud party nearby."

"Sugarbeet is off the beaten path and worth the extra effort to get to and get into. This is a fine establishment with cuisine tailored to those who enjoy quality ingredients, thoughtful preparation, attractive presentation and excellent service. The term "hidden gem" comes to mind but that is overused and I would instead prefer to describe Sugarbeet as an establishment that caters to the tastes of a sophisticated yet unpretentious clientele by presenting delicious fare at reasonable prices with a flair for the extraordinary without going overboard. A superb example of Northern Colorado fine dining. Stop in for a cocktail and you'll likely stay for dinner. Cheers."

"For a meal that cost $220 for four, we were disappointed (all 4 of us). One steak was supposed to be med. rare but was definitely cooked past that. Their "special", barbecued ribs, were poor cuts of meat and not particularly tasty. The best part of the meal was the wedge salad. We won't return."

"First time there, early 5:15 seating after a museum visit, so half empty, very quiet. Portions large, my husband surprised. Bread unexciting, skip it. Soup offerings not interesting. But brussel sprout appetizer, ordered as a side dish, was excellent, could be a veggie entree. Split the anchovy appetizer, generously portioned enough for two, really liked that. My buffalo rib-eye with Hazel Dells was divine!! And as expected, enough for a couple meals. Husband's papardelle with braised short ribs was mixed bag -- the pasta was truly excellent, the meat a little tough, which was surprising for that cut. The recommended pinot noir, Block 9, a real treat. Had to skip dessert, but the offerings sounded really good, want to come back."

"Sugarbeet is in an odd location but the interior is nicely decorated and the food is great. The menu is gluten-free friendly but not vegetarian friendly. The service was great and the cocktails were amazing.
My wife had the buffalo ribeye. It was a healthy cut of meat - at least twice as large as we expected. The exotic mushroom side was worth the price alone. I had the sole with greens and quinoa. It was tasty but a little too eclectic... too many competing flavors.
It's pretty casual relative to the price. My wife and I were wearing jeans and sweaters. We didn't feel underdressed at all."

"This was our third visit. The portion sizes seemed to get bigger, the food was tasting very good, but not extraordinary. For a fine dining experience the portions could be smaller, but with the extra kick that separates it from normal dining experiences. Overall still a very good experience."

"Service was excellent, well balanced/accomodating. We arrived at 830 and were seated at a noisy middle table, dining room is nice but we were between 2 large groups. After our drink order, thankfully our server offered to move us to open table in the north end and suddenly it was quiet! Anchovy appetizer was tasty but poor presentation with too much going and flavors were lost. Beet/goat cheese was excellent combo of flavors offset by the Raddicio salad which was a dissapointing cabbage pile...overly concocted without substance. Main dish filet was excellent and short rib special was great combo of flavors, sweet potato and green chili. Highly reccommend. Over all was a very good dinner."

"Sugarbeet is very good but it's testimony to what's happening in "food" these days, especially just up the road in Boulder or down in Denver, that cuisine of this quality is not that outstanding. Not a great wine list, either--some good wines but overpriced, and the wines by the glass are forgettable. The cocktails looked quite good (did not try) but again too overpriced to make me excited about coming back to try them. Food-wise, the roasted brussels sprouts (appetizer) were excellent, but the shrimp'n'grits entree was disappointing and the short ribs (a special) was oversauced. The dessert, though, was outstanding: a key lime semi-freddo with graham cracker crust and toasted meringue on the side that was a most delicious creation."

"Sugarbeet is truly a gem! The hosts (Justine and her husband/chef Seth Witherspoon) provide such a warm and friendly atmoshere. The food is always outstanding and I love the seasonal changes that they make to the menu. Our waiter Lance was and always is outstanding when it comes to the personalized service he provides and his knowledge of cuisine. This is our favorite restaurant in the Boulder area."

"Everything from the food to the service was spot on. My husband and I have dined in some of the best restaurants in the world. My meal here would rank near the top. We ended our meal with a chocolate beet cake that was truly a slice of heaven! The generous portions allowed for more indulgence the following day. We will definitely be back!"

"Bit of a let down. Sugarbeet does usually surprise and delight. I was a big fan. This time the sole was Not Good. Bland greens, bland fish overstuffed too many things to compensate. And then stacked high to make a bit of a mess. Then a bit of drama trying to get the mgmt to take it off the bill. I mean, we still spent over $110. So, bit sad that a great local dining option was not so great.
Thanks."

"Great find in an unexpected location! We came for an early Friday night dinner and loved it. To start we had the crispy pork belly and the crawfish croquettes, both were wonderful but the crispy pork belly with celery root slaw was my favorite dish of the night. Who knew celery root slaw could be so good? The Artichoke Risotto Cakes were great. The Spaghetti Nero was good but I thought the flavors were muted and the dish was heavy. The wine list looked good and there were interesting cocktails but I have one quibble, there was a "Classic Martini"... with vodka? Our server was friendly and professional but our entrees came out before we were finished with appetizers."

"The artichoke appetizer was lovely. I asked for medium rare lamb and it came back much more rare than expected but it was excellent. The vegetables were perfectly done and the parsnip/potato mash was dessert quality."

"We love the Sugarbeet. The menu has changed, and that is good, but it is maybe currently a little too contrived. My husband and I are adventurous, but we had my 80 year old mother with us, and could have used something not so heavy. We are looking forward to the spring offerings! Perhaps we just got the heavy things- Mom got the shrimp, and was overwhelmed. Husband got the rigatoni and he felt it was overwhelming, too. I could have eaten both of them, but just some feedback...we will be back, regardless!"

"I normally really enjoy eating here. The waitress was not very friendly on this visit and only asked short prompt questions. She didn't mention the specials, and got another tables drink wrong. When the table clarified that they received the wrong martini she seemed a little inconvinienced to bring them the correct one. I ordered the clam/sausage/escarole pasta and was extremely dissapointed in this item as it was served lukewarm and had a tomato sauce on it though the menu didn't mention this. It appeared to be leftovers topped bucatini. Will be a while before I try this location again after this first less than stellar service/food experience."

"The speacial was very good (short rib), and the wine list was great. The two appetizers I had were also a nice change and very tasty (sardines and pate). My entree, the artichoke stuffed sole, was bland. I felt bored by the quinoa as well. But it wasn't awful by any means. I was on a date and we were seated next to a very loud, very annoying table that was having some kind of professional work meeting/outing. I could not even hear the person I was with when we attempted to talk throughout dinner. It would've been nice to be seated in another room, more accodmadating for an intimate dinner. I would suggest a more balanced menu, and also say that speaking contextually, everything is over priced."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Sugarbeet! The food was delicious and fresh (I highly recommend the crispy pork belly appetizer, which comes on a bed of yummy house-made coleslaw - fantastic!). The wait staff was friendly with just the right level of attentiveness. This place is pricey (about $30 per entree, $8-10 for appetizers and small salads, $9 drinks), but the old adage is true - you get what you pay for. It was great. Go for a special occasion."

"This was our second visit to Sugarbeet, and both have been outstanding. The wine list offers a good selection at reasonable prices, and service is attentive with adequate staffing to handle the busy dining room.
I started with clam soup followed by a buffalo rib-eye. The soup was spicy without being challenging and the rib-eye was cooked to perfection; crisp on the outside, rare in the center, and fork tender.
My wife had sunchokes to start and quail to follow. The starter offered interesting texture and delicious flavour. I'm not a fan of quail, but my wife is; they appeared to meet her expectations. We finished with a shared slab of chocolate torte that was more than adequate for two.
Overall, an excellent evening dinner."

"The location had us a little worried as we drove up, but the food and drinks were awesome! The ahi tuna seared rare had a great tender texture and the beef short ribs were such a hearty portion a take home box was needed. Mayan chocolate martini, warm whiskey & applecider drink, beer, and cherry martini were all well-crafted and delicious as well. Creme brulee dessert was a nice finish too- not too sweet but creamy & wonderful. Great find & we''ll definitely be back!"
