"We went for our anniversary. Sat on the patio, which overlooks the marina--a gorgeous view. The appetizer of crab cocktail was divine. My steak/lobster was good, but they messed up my side dishes and never fixed it. Our waitress and bus boy disappeared here and there. They need to step up the service and pay attention to details."

"Celebrated at dear friend's birthday with a small ladies lunch for four at the First Cabin...WOW! Great service, excellent food and menu choices and the outdoor dining experience was perfect. I ordered the crab and shrimp salad and it was so delicious, wish the portion had been slightly larger:-) Can't wait to get back to enjoy the view, food and service."

"I must admit I was a little disappointed this time.
Food was good, except that the dessert was very so-so. Soup and main entree were excellent. Service was not quite as good this time as it has been in the past - I guess I have just been spoiled.
Also when the reservation was made I was asked if it was a special occasion. I responded that it was a birthday celebration, but no mention was made of this by anybody at any time. Seems a little pointless to ask the question if not even a greeting of "Happy Birthday" is forthcoming.
Just not quite up to par this visit, which was disappointing as it has always been.such a special experience in the past."

"Excellent curb service and matre'D service. Waitress okay but not very attentive especially since there were only 3 or 4 tables occuppied Rib-eye steak was way overpriced at $46 and two of my guests ordered it.. The taste was not enough to cause them to eat much so they took it home for their respective dogs. .
The worst and most silly event was the decision to seat a group of six to the adjacent table when there were 30 or so empty tables. We all could have more space but they "crowded" the two reservations at two adjacent tables. I asked why they were setting up the table for six next to ours and they said 6 guests were arriving later. I said move the set up further away......They did not."

"My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at First Cabin. We couldn't have picked a better place. The food was top-notch -- appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts. Everything was prepared perfectly and our waiter, Mike, was both pleasant and knowledgeable. We will definitely return!"

"From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was the best I have ever experienced. Mike was our waiter and he was fabulous! The view is a hidden find, the food was perfect and again, the service was fabulous! Some may have a feeling that the Bay Club is an older feel, but it isn't. Sit on the patio with friends at 5pm, enjoy the sun then the sunset, stay for hours. You wont be disappointed!"

"We made reservations for an early lunch at 11. We were the only table filled. It took a long time to get a waiter to come over and a very long time to get our food. As a result, one of the guests had to eat very quickly to leave for an appointment. (We'd set the early time to accommodate her schedule.) Apparently, the kitchen wasn't ready to start making lunch."

"For the money, the meal was overpriced. A glass of mediocre wine was $16. Give me a break! There was little imagination in the preparation of the food.. Since they never seem to change their menu, I think they have become complacent. The service was excellent and the view of the yachts and passing sculling crews was interesting. Doubt that I will go back."

"There was a time when we frequented First Cabin for all our special occasion meals but a couple years ago we noticed service was slipping and so we dined elsewhere. Thanks to Travelzoo, we gave it another go this weekend and had an amazing 24 hours at BBC. I still think service is inconsistent throughout the resort and dining areas and needs some attention and improvement. My advice is to request to sit in Michael's section when you dine at First Cabin - he is an expert at customer service, I only wish we had remembered to request him ourselves. I also wish they would bring back wine of the month. But overall our meals were absolutely delicious."

"Such a lovely venue for dinning with friends and/or family. Everyone there from the valet to the head waiter (Mikey) couldn't have treated us more perfectly. The wine we ordered wasn't available so Mikey made a wonderful suggestion for an alternate as well as suggesting the delicious Sea Bass, which by the way was cooked to perfection. We were celebrating our friends birthday and I received a phone call the eveneing prior to our reservation asking for his name. So, when the complimentary cake came out with candle and Todd's name on the plate - it was a big success. We were able to carry on a conversation without any over bearing music in the backgroud. What a wonderful evening. Thanks to all at Balboa Bay Resort!!"

"As always we were made to feel most welcome. We have stayed and eaten at the hotel many times when we are visiting the LA area from our home in the UK. We had a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable lunch on Sunday."

"We enjoyed our cocktails, appetizers, main course and wine. We found the food nicely prepared and the server, while busy with several tables, was very efficient. The live piano music was also a nice touch for dinner. It was nice to watch the occasional yacht glide by. The overall ambience was marred by the loud music from the event in the private dining room adjacent to the restaurant. The pounding thump-thump-thump of the music next door started shortly after we received our appetizers. It distracted us from enjoying the dining experience. So much for listening to the nice piano music. If we return, it would be on a week night when it's unlikely that a party/event would occur."

"First Cabin was first rate for food, service, and location! No better place to celebrate my daughter's 40th birthday. The private room was great, roomy, and a fantastic view of the Bay( even though it was nighttime). Elegant service and ambiance, perfect for my Daughter special celebration!"
