One of the finest restaurants in the capital, Plume serves as a discreet and elegant backdrop to the culinary artistry of our executive chef, Chris Jakubiec. Choose a cozy nook or a table by our inviting fireplace as you savor classic dishes expertly executed by Chef Jakubeic with lighter, contemporary finishing touches that appeal to today’s enlightened palates. Chef Jakubeic draws on the traditional techniques he mastered under the tutelage of Alain Ducasse in New York City, creating seasonal menus inspired by the fruits, vegetables and herbs grown in Thomas Jefferson’s gardens. Presided over by sommelier Michael Scaffidi, formerly of French Laundry, Plume’s wine list spans more than a dozen nationalities and dates back to a rare 1780 Borges Madeira Bual. Among the more than 50 vintages are those Jefferson himself enjoyed in his time as well as newer wines he might select were he alive today.
"We have had the pleasure of dining at some of the DC area's best restaurants but dining at Plume turned out to be just an awful experience. The main issue we had was with the food. The food was just not good. I wouldn't even consider paying 1/10th of what Plume charges for their bland food that doesn't even seem fresh. The service was okay. I was not impressed with the ambiance at Plume because for the hundreds of dollars we spent on our meal we were essentially seated in the lobby where you could see people coming in and out of the hotel. We could see that the main dining room wasn't even full but the manager wouldn't consider moving us there when we requested. We will NEVER be returning to Plume again."

"For traditional, formal table service and a high-end menu (that is still approachable), going to Plume was a memorable experience. The restaurant has a few dining room areas. We were seated in the delicately soft light-filled atrium and it was gorgeous. We were there for a special occasion (birthday) and it was completely worth every cent. Plume offered two options: a 3-course fixed price menu or a tasting menu; we opted for the former. From beginning to end, the dining experience was perfection. All of this comes with a price, of course. This is not the sort of restaurant you might frequent regularly, unless you are wealthy. Certainly, it is a great spot to save up for something special. We are glad we did!"

"Food was okay but nothing special, especially for how expensive it is. I tried the peanut butter apple dessert and it was awful. Also the atmosphere is a bit stiff and very quiet."

"One of the best dining experiences in my memory. Impeccable service, wonderful food, and sublime ambience. My wife and I dined on my birthday. We had the tasting menu with premium wine experience. The meal started with a half-bottle of NV Krug Champagne and concluded with Chateau D'Yquem (the sommelier topped off both our glasses with more D'Yquem, by the way). Unhurried, unmechanical, elegant, gorgeous. Ask for Table 10. It's called the "Bookery" for its backdrop of library books. The table is lit by a historic chandelier from the hotel, circa 1840. We didn't want to leave! It's not inexpensive, but worth every penny, IMHO. Highly recommended."

"Perfect ambiance: beautifully furnished, lots of space between tables, good lighting, sedate. Service was excellent but not overhovering. Food was excellent. The prix fixe dinner included course after course. When it was over, you did not feel that you had been overcharged."

"The ambiance was lovely and the service was excellent. The food was nicely presented and some of the dishes were very good, while others were good but nothing outstanding or remarkable. Just for a note to the chef. Desserts too sweet and too many things going on. Cheese place would have been better with not sweet bread and thin crackers or dry french. We had a pleasant time but food was not good enough to go back."

"I travel on business a lot and dine out practically all the time. I have eaten in many a fine restaurant but I will have to say that Plume is the finest establishment I have ever had the honor to go to. The food was superb. The service impeccable. The atmosphere was elegant. Men: wear a jacket atleast - most of the men there will be in a suit and tie.
This place is a treasure a truly exceptional dining spot in the nation's capital."

"What a perfect restaurant for a special occasion (think anniversary, birthday)! The room is lovely (steel grey walls, white chairs, beautiful candles, curtains) and the noise level is perfect for important conversations without a lot of distractions. The restaurant has plenty of attentive staff to help make your meal a success. The food was absolutely delicious and after some disappointing meals in other "must go" DC metro area restaurants, we were surprised, delighted and still talking to our friends about our experience at Plume. Would HIGHLY recommend Plume."

"We stayed at the Jefferson and had a fantastic dinner our second night at the hotel. The service was absolutely outstanding. Really, incredibly attentive, fantastic recommendations, etc. My husband "won" between two great selections we ordered. He had the Dover Sole and it literally melted in your mouth. Certainly not a dining experience most would ask for often - really a treat."

"We stayed at the Jefferson Hotel for 5 nights while visiting the sights of Washington. Dinner at Plume capped off our trip with our son. After nearly a week of sightseeing and walking, walking, walking the city, it was delightful to simply go downstairs for a dinner that was elegant, delicious, and beautifully presented. A wonderful celebration to end our stay in Washington."

"A magnificent venue for a romantic anniversary! The waitstaff was observant, but not intrusive, the cozy ambiance was intimate (but not smothering), the warmth of the restauarnt setting made you forget it was winter outside, and the food was incredibly well-crafted and done to perfection. The decor of the restaurant was comparable to a British palace or a French chateau (many flourishes tip their hat to Thomas Jefferson, the namesake of the hotel in which the restaurant is located). This was the best dining experience I have ever had in Washington DC and have recommended this restaurant to my friends and family. While it isn't cheap, we found the experience to be well worth the costs and have memories that will endure forever."

"Great food and exceptional service make this one of DC's top restaurants. You leave feeling really good about having dropped an exceptional amount of money. A notable (very overpriced) wine list is matched with a very knowledgable sommelier. The hamachi appetizer was fabulous, while the beet salad could have had a bit more interest. The bread is not worth the calories, but the main courses were fabulous - one of the best veal chops I've ever had.
Note, if you sit by the fireplace, you will roast and while the wait staff is happy to turn off the gas, it continues to push out heat for quite a while."

"We were in town from Los Angeles and Loved the food and especially I loved the desserts! The lobster and sea bass were great and the blue crab risotto was delicious too. but the desserts were to die for, a big splurge but worth it. Our bill was almost 300, but definitely one of our nicest meals ever."

"I can honestly say this is one of the best meal experiences I have ever had in my life, and I have lived in NYC for many years with the fabulous restaurants there. We went on a Tuesday evening, and even then it was mostly full. The food was out of this world, the waiter was very attentive and friendly (and knew a lot about cheese!), and the sommelier was helpful and was very good at explaining the wines without making us feel like amateurs (which we are). My boyfriend and I went for out 2 year anniversary, and it was definitely a memorable experience. Even at the end of the meal they gave us some chocolates and printed out the wines we had ordered. It was phenomenal!"

"I had never read, nor known, that the menu was fixed with one selection in two categories. Very overpriced for the quality. Dishes were very ordinary -- nothing creative. As for service, you would have thought we were in a diner. I was reached in front of to place silverware several times even though we sat at a round table with everyone accessible from all sides; our cocktail glasses stayed on the table throughout dinner even though they were empty and we had ordered and drank wine with dinner. Other unused dishes stayed on the table throughout the dinner, as well. I will not only not recommend it, but I will volunteer that no one should go there."

"From the doorman to the bus person, service was given with excellence. The quiet atmosphere with well-spaced tables gave the lovely room an elegant aura. The Golden Beet soup was a combination of gentle favors enhanced by the quail egg and creme fraiche. A handsome LobsterThermidor was mild and arranged for ease of eating. House water was replenished quickly and unobtrusively. There were so many wonderful touches, however, the best was the dessert which came as a birthday surprise for my friend. In the low lit room a candle glowed behind a nest of white spun sugar with what looked like ice cream puffs centered in the nest. Not only was it beautiful, it was delicious. Great martini, great Piedmont wine, and a splendid evening."

"An engagement and birthday dinner was our occasion and Christain and the other wait staff made us feel like royalty. The opening free course of Salmon Tartar, pastry bread and focaccia was a delightful starter. The French '76 and Armingnac were perfection squared! My fiancée truly enjoyed her Dover Sole, which she described as the best fish she has ever had in her life. My Divers Scallops were ok... The flair in our desserts were unforgettable...profiteroles in blueberries wrapped in lemon cotton candy! Delicious and memorable. Well done, Plume."

"Wow! That pretty much sums up this experience. This may have been my best restaurant experience -- ever. Service was outstanding. Food was incredible. And the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. We did the prix fixe menu. Every course was delicious. The details they put into the food are unlike anything I've ever experienced and we eat in some pretty fine restaurants. For the heirloom tomato salad, they peel the tomatoes. There were amuse-bouches, there was a pre-dessert that was every bit as delicious as the dessert (if not more so -- it was really good!). All three main courses were perfectly prepared. My dessert came covered in lemon cotton candy! I would highly recommend this restaurant"
