"We were in town for a food convention, you would think people would be giving great suggestions So after having a good pizza,a pricey pasta with no distinct flavor, and an over priced Flinstone size steak Finally... we came across Markethouse because it was in walking distance of the hotel. The feel was perfect as we entered. Homey but classic, a clean feel, with herbs in the window and rich colors in the decor. The service was great, we didn't want for anything. He didn't offer suggestions but was happy to answer any questions. The meal was full of flavor. Each dish was beautifully displayed but approachable to eat. And we made it to dessert. The prices were perfect, not inflated at all"

"Went there for Mother's Day. Service was poor. Waiters filled water twice - several times, they asked the next table but never checked on us . I also observed this happen to other tables. Table decor was disappointing - not even flowers on the table especially for Mother's Day! Food/brunch was plain - nothing extraordinary that we can remember. Will not recommend nor comeback."

"The menu is full of comfort foods. Daughter had the vegetable pot pie and said it was one of the best pot pies she's ever had. Son had the full rack of ribs which came on a plate almost two feet long. Smoked barbecue flavor, and fall off the bone meat, with fries, coleslaw and full ear of corn-on-the-cob. Probably could have fed the family. I had the 12 oz sirloin with red-wine onion jam, asparagus, potato puree and pearlized onions. So much flavor. Thank goodness you can walk in Chicago, because you'll need to burn some calories after a meal here. Saw a hamburger go by to another table that must have been 6-8 inches high. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for flavorful home-style cooking."

"The menu is appealing for fresh, sustainable food admirers. Could use better greeting, seating and serving style for the type of menu. Everything we tried had good taste and arrived at the table in larger portions than expected. Reasonably priced."

"I'm not sure Market House really knows what it wants to be. The menu had some interesting items, but no real theme. This works when you add a contemporary flair to your cuisine, but when everything is just so-so, it is a dissappointing experience. With so many other excellent restaurants, they have a real challenge to compete"

"Service was a little off. I think they were a bit understaffed. The food however was fantastic. I had the chicken pot pie and my husband had an incredibly fresh salad with great ingredients. Great sitting at the bar. We will probably go back and eat at the bar. Very good! Highly recommend it."

"The food was great but the staff and service did not meet my expectations. The restaurant was not busy the night we dined but it still took 4 minutes to seat us and the hostess then made us feel like it was a huge inconvenience. We were then left with no contact for ten minutes before our server arrived. We ordered and our appetizers then took 40 minutes to arrive. All in all not a great experience."

"My husband and I have dined here before. We love the butternut squash soup (with cherries) and their salads especially (chop and wedge). This time we tried their burger. It was colossal. We both took half of the burger and the delicious French fries home with us. They were delicious again after being warmed up. They also have excellent desserts. And their hostess is exceptional. She is very friendly and welcoming. All in all, we had a wonderful dining experience here again."

"The homemade sweet potato bread is really good. I was a little disappointed in the size of the salmon portion I was given for the price that it was (it was expensive); that's the worst thing I could say about the restaurant, so overall, I enjoyed my meal there."

"My fiance and I had a Restaurant.com coupon for Markethouse. I had never heard of it but looked at the menu online and thought it would be great to try. The menu is VERY diverse a DELICIOUS!!! I would go back in a HEARTBEAT. The decor is country but updated and the staff is very nice. I can't rave more about the food. Being that they support local farmers makes it even better. All organic and fresh and delicious!! A definite A+."

"My husband and I had a wonderful evening out at MarketHouse. Our waiter was Jose and he was very attentive throughout our entire dining experience. Regarding the food, we were most impressed with the butternut squash soup (so delicious) and the salads. Both the cob salad and wedge salad were absolutely outstanding. We enjoyed our dining experience tremendously and cannot wait to go back."

"It was delightful to sit in a quiet place and sip a drink. The Food was very good, but it did seem to take a little long to get the food. We had a very nice time, the wait staff were very nice. Early reservations were good as the tables and bar were full when we left. We will go back."

"This was a business breakfast and MarketHouse lent itself fairly well for that purpose. We were seated next to a 'lively' table who were quite loud, making it difficult for us to talk at times and necessitating our using far lounder voices than usual. The food was good although nothing exceptional."

"First impression was oh dear we have gone to the hotel coffee shop, cause even with lightling turned down, the decor gave that impression. But we were pleasantly surprised. Started with a nice glass of Spanish white, then had chopped salad and chicken pot pie. Both were very good, freshly made and generous size. Service was good. All in all was more sophisticated and " foodie" than the decor would suggest."

"The food was excellent. The service was excellent. Markethouse only had two fish selections (since we both do not eat meat) but the fish and chips were awesome. Tarter sauce needs some major work. However, we would return."

"This little Streeterville neighborhood spot is often overlooked, but the food is great - very adventuresome and inventive. It's usually also quiet, so it's a great spot to just have a nice meal and relax."

"Our waiter was horrible. We heard all the other waiters around us introduce themselves, and mention the specials for the evening; our's seemed like we were bugging him on his day off. NOT the service I was expecting. Food was alright."

"I was excited about the restaurant being a "farm -to-table" concept but was disappointed to find out it was connected to the Embassy Suites hotel. The ambiance was okay; I didn't think it flowed with the theme so i felt sort out of place. It wasn't as warm and inviting as I'd hoped it would be. The music was TERRIBLE! I went there on a date for Valentine's Day and the restaurant was playing all breakup music so that didn't really help set the mood and made the ambiance even worse. The food was good but at that point it was just a matter of enjoying my company than the restaurant itself. The only upside was that they offered half off all bottles of wine for Valentine's Day. Cheers!"

"Markethouse had a special $50/pp Valentine's Day menu that featured soup, lobster, filet, and dessert that sounded wonderful. Plus, I had always wanted to check it out. Instead of a romantic Valentines meal, we left the restaurant without eating. The staff was disorganized, the kitchen ran out of lobster and filet, the bartender was surly, and the manager suggested that we return the following day when they had more food. For being one of the biggest dining out nights of the year, Markethouse failed miserably. This is the type of restaurant that I want to support given their commitment to local, sustainable ingredients. Instead, I walked out."

"We (all five of us) ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. We all had the soup, most had the chicken, one the risotto, all had the butterscotch dessert. All were thrilled w/ their entrees & with the dessert. The soup was a little lackluster. Too bland. The dessert was fantastic."

"Open atmosphere, very warm! The beer cheese soup with popcorn is amazing! I had the ribs which were good but they weren't "fall off the bone" tender - I would order them again, though. This is a great place to go that is a bit more casual, but still very nice!"

"We went for restaurant week as there we never had a reason to go there and it was a good excuse. The service was lacking despite only 4 other tables. We waited to place our order and our food. When we were attended to the waiter seemed to be already walking away. The only time we were served promptly was our dessert and check. They try to get you with the whole local sourced marketing but it does not excuse the meat to be poorly butchered and poorly cooked. It is obvious that they use sauces and "bold" flavors to mask imperfections. My stake and potatoes came out lukewarm and the Chicken my date had was rubbery. I feel this place could be better but too many corners were cut for me to come back."

"Good food, but in my opinion not worth the high price. We each got two drinks, an appetizer, and an entree. And the bill was over $250 with tip! The food is locally sourced, which drew us into the restaurant in the first place. But at that price tag, they must be shipping the food in with Ferraris!
On the plus side, the mixed drinks were very good, the beer cheese soup was delicious, and the service was excellent."
