Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in.
Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own.
At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

"This place has some amazing food and they will cater to your dietary concerns as well. i'm vegetarian and gluten free and can only eat limited dairy and they were able to make some amazing dishes! I highly recommend the Seared Colombian Arepas, Radish Salad, and for dessert the Chocolate Coconut Truffle with Avocado sorbet is amazing!
The decor is eclectic and great energy. Make your reservations ahead at least 2 weeks if you want a table at a decent dinner hour. The views of the city are fantastic from here!"

"We had a group of 10 beautifully talented people I was entertaining from various parts of the world. I had to change reservation count twice and the Root Down staff accommodated us with grace and joy. It was such a relief!
My guests couldn't stop talking about how magically delicious and fresh the food was, how awesome to eat artistically prepared food from local farmers, how the ambiance was both soulful & sophisticated. The wait staff never missed a beat, & at the very same time, they were never annoyingly overattentive. There was a groundedness and genuine sense of nurture, love, & playfulness that exuded all of the Root Down coworkers, and our group left feeling like everything in the world is going to be okay. We love you, Root Down!"

"Root Down is one of LoHi's neighborhood gems. Not only can you ALWAYS count on great contemporary cuisine, but the service and ambiance are the best. On the weekends, bring the kids along for an outstanding brunch. The entire family will love the pancakes and Belgian Waffles. Try the veggie sliders too, or the fried egg sandwich, or an omelet. You can't go wrong with brunch or dinner. Now that the weather is gorgeous, sit outside on the patio and enjoy Blood Orange Bottomless Mimosas."

"We had heard a lot about Root Down so we had been anticipating the meal. it was my fiance's birthday so we finally tried it. We had several small plates and the food was good but somehow we were left wanting. We were not necessarily hungry but not exactly satisfied. The service was great, our server was friendly and knowledgeable. He also threw in a nice dessert for the birthday. The cocktails however, were fantastic. All in all we had a nice meal and enjoyed ourselves."

"Food was good, as always, but we were seated at an uncomfortably small table.We asked to be moved and were told that they could not accomodate us despite adjacent vacant tables. We spent the evening juggling plates and glasses, and banging knees.
The service was efficient, but we were (awkwardly) asked by our waitress several times," I don't mean to rush you, but would you like to order your next course now"? It was clear that she meant to rush us.
These two issues took the shine off of the evening. If you want to go for a nice comfortable evening, try somewhere else. If you like the cheek-to-jowl loud scene, this is your place.
The food is consistently good to terrific. It is not cheap. You can leave hungry unless you run up a big bill."

"Hands down the best brunch that I have ever had. The Steak and Chilaquiles was perfection! The service was fantastic. Our waiter knew everything about the menu and was able to make fantastic recommendations. Overall, my experience was great! My only complaint is that I wish the water/mimosas were a little more chilled. Other than that, it was fantastic!"

"I love Root Down, but like all restaurants, it can be everything to everybody. The food is fabulous, as are most of the wait staff. But the noise level is far too loud to ever be the ideal location for a romantic night out, or even for a group of more than 4, as you'll never be able to hear each other. (BTW, the last time we went the sound track was the most boring – and annoyingly loud – house / techno disco trash mix. The sound level in the room with conversations is already too loud -- why add to the discomfort by adding this trash to the ambiance?) Once the weather is warmer you can escape the noise by sitting on the patio / porch, where you can concentrate on your friends and the food."

"The Chef and his crew are able to master the local fresh cuisine with ease. We started the meal with an amazing starter that truly indicated that our taste buds were in for a treat that evening. For the main, I had the steak meanwhile my fiance had the mussells, both a hit. The waitstaff quickly took note that we might need more grilled bread and without any comunication brought more. Nice work. I do not normally eat dessert, but on this evening I decided otherwise. I ordered the bread pudding. Another spot on choice.
The food is not only clean, but truly one of a kind. My fiance and I enjoyed the experience that we called the couple that suggested it up the couple that suggested Root Down to us and thanked them."

"We had some family in from out of town and it was such fun to take them here and KNOW we'll get the best food around, beautifully cooked and exquisitely presented, with expert service and a great buzz in the room. We weren't disappointed. This place lives up to the hype, and goes far beyond that. The menu changes often, the ingredients are locally sourced and amazingly fresh, the food is delicious, creatively thought out, a delight to the palate, the staff truly care about your dining experience, the ambiance is casual and exciting. The layout contains an open kitchen so you can watch the chefts at work, which is fun (if you can tear yourself away from the people-watching). You must eat here!!"

"The duck tacos were excellent. Duck can be greasy, but the duck was tender and flavorful and not the least bit greasy. The salmon was well seasoned and cooked to perfection, but the quinoa was a little undercooked. The lamb sliders were excellent. "Six of us - boomers and foodies - travelled up from Boulder for a birthday celebration. We were pretty blown away by the quality of ingredients and creativity of the food. Our waitress, Meg, informed us that the spring menu was 60% local and that as the growing season in Colorado progresses, it will be 100%. Also, want to note that we were seated in a separate dining room that enabled us to hear one another - something not possible in many restaurants today. Great service, outstanding reasonably priced food. Hands down, better than anything we have in Boulder today. Please consider opening a restaurant up here!
