"chef geoff's is my family's go-to get-together location. once of those restaurants where I can never decided what to eat, because there are too many delicious sounding choices. the gouda risotto balls and sweet fried calamari are my favorite appetizers, but those fried pickles are fantastic with a cold beer. haven't meet an entree I wouldn't order a second time, and with their rotating menu, there's always something new."

"I was sorry it wasn't warmer to allow us to take advantage of the outdoor tables Chez Geoff. I'm sure it would have been quieter than the inside table we sat at. Our meals (we were three) were above average and we all cleaned our plates. Flavours were slightly off the beaten track; big servings. The flourless cake with chcolate sauce and pistachios was divine. Our waiter was not very attentative and had his eye on serving a large table near by. We were second fiddle. We had a nice evening but not a great one."

"Although we have dined at Chef Geoff's previously on more casual occasions, we chose this restaurant for our graduation celebration dinner. It could not have been better - the food quality was outstanding, service impeccable and the server's recommendations were spot-on. We never felt rushed, the timing of food and drinks was perfect. We also had a small child with us, the staff was very accommodating. This was the perfect choice for our special day, a perfect choice for any day."

The location is nice, and we enjoyed the large windows overlooking a patio. The food was excellent, and we were very pleased with the generous variety of veggie entrees. Will definitely come back!"

"Maybe I've been spoiled by living in New Orleans for 6 years but I was underwhelmed by the brunch here. The starting fruit plate and breakfast breads were surprisingly small. My mom got the Eggs Chesapeake which was a lot of food - which she enjoyed - but to me it tasted overly fishy (I ate a dozen crabs the night before so I do enjoy seafood). My brother got the Steak and Eggs. This was the best of the 3 dishes; the accompanying roasted tomatoes were amazing. There should have been more of those. I got the Eggs Henry. I've had better hollandaise. I've had better poached eggs (one of yolks was medium cooked). I've definitely had better frites which were greasy and soggy. The accompanying green salad was actually well dressed."

"I go to Chef Geoff's frequently because of the variety and quality of food options. The Sunset Special of 3 courses for $19.95 if you order before 6:30 is an incredible value. My food is always very tasty. The service is very crisp, the staff friendly. It is always a good experience."

"I've been to Chef Geoff's several times for happy hour, but went recently for the first time for dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the bread was delicious. The service was OK - the waitress forgot one person's salad and another side dish so we had to ask again. Probably because the restaurant was too busy."

"As usual, our Chef Geoff''s dining was most satisfying. Sunset Special remains a great deal. Our server, who was completing her training that night, was superb. Friendly, knowledgeable, timely. The only hitch was that the parking attendant refused to honor the "free parking" stamp and charged us when we left."

"My mother and I hit CG for brunch, upon a magazine recommendation.
Pluses: The food portions were EXTREMELY generous and tasty. It came out very quickly, They have a very good deal if you want just one drink with your meal. Our server was pleasant and flexible, and replaced my Bloody Mary with a Mimosa at no charge. It wasn't too hard to hear each other & we weren't pressured to leave.
Minuses: The food was good, but not great. Nothing overly special. I had the breakfast burrito and my mother had the Caesar Salad with Shrimp. The food was EXTREMELY generous. I took half my food home. Our server seemed over-extended and it was hard to get his attention."

"Dinner at Chef Geoff's was a mixed bag. The food was good, but everything about the service was slow. We had an 8:30 reservation, and we weren't seated until 8:45. The time it took to get our waiter to come over, to order, to wait for our food, and then to wait for our check was deplorable. We didn't order an appetizer or desert, but we didn't leave the restaurant until 10:30. The waiter was friendly, but he hardly checked in on us and it took a while to get drinks. This is the second time I've gone here. The first time service was slow (and the waiter was a bit rude). This visit confirmed it - Chef Geoff's isn't worth the time or money."

"Absolutely LOVED our server I wish I could remember his name, but I went with a couple of friends a couple of days ago and he was the sweetest to us, making us laugh and being extremely kind. "The food and service were excellent. The noise, when we first began our meal, was literally painful -- and,continued on high for most of our time there. There were six of us and it was impossible to even talk with the person sitting across the table. Toward the end of our meal -- and, we were there for nearly 2 1/2 hours -- it quieted down and was a delight. I urge some noise abatement. Other than that, it is a great place."

"The califlower bisque was bland, the bistro burger was ordered medium; however received well done, same for the steak, and the sweet potato fries were mushy.
On the plus side, the service was impeccable and the special appetizer(a spinach dip) was top notch. The wine list and beer selection were solid as well.
The menu had so many options it was tough to hone in on my order; however I will try Chef Geoff's again because I want to believe the food is good and we just made a bad order on a busy night."

"The ambiance is pleasant, the food usually very good. Service is impeccable and the servers are helpful and knowledgeable. At times, it can get fairly noisy, which is not a plus for me, but the restaurant is near American University, and the bar scene can be raucous. That is not always the case, but it is annoying when it gets loud. I do not drink, so cannot comment on the "bar scene." Also, I am older, and not into that scene, but the younger group seems to enjoy it. Overall, I eat here fairly frequently, and am usually glad I did."

"We had a very nice meal and our server was very attentive despite the packed restaurant. The tables are a little close together and the noise level makes it hard to talk. We had a group of 7 so it didn't bother us but it is not the place for a romantic dinner. I think an expansion of the dining room should be on their to do list. Food was fantastic as always. It is my go-to place when visiting my daughter at American U."

"I don't want to blame the poor service on our waitress - she was wonderful. However, there were some major problems Wednesday night. Our 3 course dinner took 2 1/2 hours. The wait between courses was excruciating. And when our dinner course was finally served - after over an hour - our appetizer plates were still on the table. There was PLENTY of time to clear them. All the tables around us were waiting and waiting too. And a crowd of people in the doorway was waiting to be seated - I wanted to warn them off. Please fix whatever was going on in the kitchen. The food was good, when we finally got it. I felt so bad for our nice waitress - she was visibly flustered."

"We were extremely disappointed by our meals. My crab cakes had pieces of shell in them and my poached eggs were overlooked. My fiancé couldn't even finish the biscuits and gravy. We have yet to have a meal we enjoy at the New Mexico Ave. location. We'll be sticking to downtown."

"The food was great: essentially a gourmet spin on many bar and grill favorites. The selections were familiar but prepared with a twist and presented nicely. The atmosphere felt like a bit of an upscale neighborhood restaurant, which is essentially what it is. Only downside was the service. Even then, it seemed due to the fact that they were quite busy on a Saturday evening. No major disqualifications from the waiter, he just could have been a bit more friendly and brought out our beer and cocktails promptly. Other than that, great place for an upscale casual meal. Will definitely go again."

"We stopped in for an early dinner on a weekday and found Chef Geoffs was already hoppin! They have a very popular happy hour, especially given its proximity to American University. All 6 of us ordered salads, some with soup, and it was all delicious. The kale salad was especially tasty, with a nice crunchy texture. Service was very friendly and attentive. We would definitely go back!"

"This place has elevated its game! Everything seems upgraded. The revised menu is definitely an improvement. Items that used to be boring are now terrific. For example, the salmon went from plain to amazing.
Our server, Andrew, was excellent! Very pleasant attitude, enthusiastic, helpful, not obtrusive.
After avoiding CG for a while, I'll return to being a frequent diner."

Sweet and savory get me every time. They also have a special where you can get any entree with mimosa or juice for only $21.95, that's a major deal. The service was really expedient; I hadn't finished my fruit and muffins before the entrees were presented."

"I made reservations after reading reviews on Open Table. We enjoyed the Madras Curried Chicken, Mac and Cheese, and pizza. Don't remember exact names of dishes but they were all very good. Nice variety of food on menu.Service good but did take a long time to place our order on a busy Fri night. Bread brought to our table after a wait and then only 3 pieces for 4 people. Tables were close so tight and crowded with a fairly high noise level but I didn't expect this to be an intimate and quiet place either just adding this for others to know. Staff friendly and food was good. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an above average meal at a good price."

"We were disappointed. Even early the place was very crowded, fairly noisy, with lots of young kids. We were expecting a slightly more upscale environment. The food was just so-so. Mushroom ravioli was very good. Soups were okay. Pizza was tasteless, and we weren't impressed with our desserts."
