A strong lineup of American beverages (American cocktails, beer, and wine) complement the flavors of the food.
"Great little spot in the financial district. Restaurant is small but if you make reservations in advance you can reserve a large table for a group. Great spin on American BBQ all dishes were tasty and filling. Save room for dessert I loved their inside out rootbeer float"

"Wexler's is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Their Scotch Eggs are the very best and the pork belly is out of this world. I highly recommend this place, check it out."

"The scotch eggs, asparagus salad and chicken liver mousse were good. They ran out of ingredients for some of that cocktails and we got there at 7. Entrees were just okay and the service was slow. Nothing was bad but I'm not really interested in returning. I will likely try wexler's back before I go back to the restaurant."

"The food is absolutely fabulous at Wexler. I had made a reservation for dinner for two as my aunt was visiting from out of town. We got the BBQ scotch eggs( which are to die for! They are served with a smoky chili sauce which is delicious!) Our entrees were the short ribs and chicken which were also tasty. And then we finished off the meal with Nutella strawberry pie and the recommended bourbon banana cream pie. The slices of pie where huge and extremely decadent.Yum! Overall the service was satisfactory but there were two main issues with our meal. The first was our waitress bringing another table's food to our table where she gave me the pork instead of the chicken that I ordered. She apologized and informed me that it would take 20 minut"

"First time here and I will be back. Beautiful ceiling decor and terrific service. The place wasn't packed but had quite a few larger parties at the time. Food is wonderful and the presentation was great. Definitely recommend the bartender drink special for a fun twist to your dinner."

"I had the little gems salad and the BBQ Brisket Bahn Mi sandwich and both were outstanding. The sandwhich came with a macaroni salad, which had a real nice smoky taste. Way better than Mom used to make. When the restaurant is full, it can get pretty loud but not overpowering. Service was attentive but not obtrusive and the final check was reasonable. Overall, I would gladly recommend the restaurant to friends. I'll have to try the dinner some time."

"We were not told in advance that meals take 20-25 minutes to prepare. We were told if we wanted bread, our server could bring us some. The menu was very limited. Service was slow."

"We ate at 5 p.m. -the first patrons. Food was wonderful - nouveau BBQ. The Scotch Eggs - signature dish The bar drinks were amazing - highly skilled bartender. Come for drinks and appetizers. Smoked clam chowder had the clams and potatoes in the bottom of the dish and they poured the creamy broth from a hot kettle into the bowl at table!! I had the Pork two ways dish - best pork tenderloin I've ever had along with pork belly (basically bacon with the fat attached). Order sides of veggies and salads as nothing but meat and possibly potatoes comes with the dish. Husband had salmon-loved it, kids had short ribs. Good but they wanted traditional BBQ. the Banana cream pie was best I've ever had."

"Overall great experience -- small menu and not a typical BBQ place so a bit off-putting for two members in our party looking for traditional BBQ. Great food however."

"This is not traditional barbecue. In fact, it's not really barbecue by anyone's definition. The menu is a bit confusing at first because I was not seeing what I expected. You need to open up at Wexler's. Get the eggs. Eat the pig. Save room for dessert. This place is great!"

"One of my favorite restaurants in SF. We're never disappointed and Matt is a gem. I'm not eating meat for Lent, but my friends wanted to go there anyway. The clam chowder was great - spicy and flavorful and not heavy at all, and the chef prepared a fish dish that wasn't on the menu for me."

"Few of the "Special Features" that OpenTable offers me to "select" really apply to Wexler's. I would add the following: classy, cool, delicious, warm, did I mention cool, dishes you won't find anywhere else, like the amazing Scotch Egg. You feel welcome and you get what you go out for: an actual dining experience!"

"Everything about Wexler's made me want to come back. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, not pretentious and seemed genuine. The setting itself is different from other places; it feels a bit like a popup restaurant that turned permanent. This isn't a bad thing though, it's simple (well, besides the intense ceiling art).
The scotch eggs were great, of course. Those are a must for an appetizer. I had the short ribs, and everything on the plate was delicious. My date had the pork platter, and although the loin had a great smoky taste, it was a little overdone. All in all though, I'd absolutely come back."

"Food: My chili was served close to room temperature. The smoked chicken wings had good flavors, but not crispy and no heat (spicy). My lamb sandwich was more bread then anything else. The brisket sandwich had too much mayo.
Our server was very good and saved the dining experience."

"The food at Wexler's was amazing, on the same level as The Monk's Kettle or The Abbot's Cellar (actually, Wexler's wasn't as good as The Abbot's Cellar), so if that's all you need in a restaurant, get going! But we found the service to be robotic. I felt like everyone, from the owner, to the waiters, was reading from a card when they spoke to my table. It's very hard to enjoy a dining experience, when you feel as if the owner and waiters would rather be anywhere else but there! Which made our exit to the restaurant all the weirder, when they all lined up at the door to open it for us. Absolutely no warmth or concern when we were dining, but such a grand gesture when we left? I'm so sorry to say that I just can't recommend this place."

"The food and service were good on our visit. The menu is very sparing - only five or six main dishes plus a few starters. The chicken liver brioche, which we split, was exceptional. My dish was the sturgeon, perfectly prepared with a tasty, smokey sauce and onions. My wife had the chicken which was very tender and also perfectly prepared with well- flavored vegetable accompaniments. The wine list is not very extensive and we thought over priced, with no wines below $32. There is a full, well-stocked bar. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is small and probably would be crowded and noisy later in the evening, especially because most of the tables are right next to the bar. (We ate at 5:30 on a Thursday evening.)"

"Ive been there a few times, but never really enjoyed the food both from the truck or at the restaurant. We arrived late for our reservation, and were essentially told another party was coming so we needed to hurry. Maybe it's just me, but it's impossible to enjoy anything with time pressure. Maybe I'll go back again because the ambiance is great... the food is so so... the bartender and waitress are great.. but the owner... kinda mean."
