The Saint John Ale House offers progressive pub food in a casual, relaxed dining room, in our pub and on our waterfront patio during the summer. We take pride in knowing where our food comes from and use locally grown and seasonal produce, meats and fish from New Brunswick farmers in many of our menu items and daily specials.
We offer the largest selection of beer in Saint John, including several local craft beers such as Moosehead Cask Ale made exclusively for the SJAH. We have an extensive wine list and also serve creative cocktails hand-made by our mixologist.
Join us for a few drinks in the pub, or dine in our restaurant. If you're interested in an all around fun night out in Saint John - we look forward to hosting you!
Sorry we do not accept reservations in the pub or on the patio.
"My husband I both enjoyed the taste of our food, but we would not go back again based on the portion-price ratio. I had the buttermilk chicken tenders with kettle chips; my plate looked like a child's portion and I paid close to $15 for it. I don't mind a smaller portion, but it should be reflected in the price. The crab dip was delicious, not worth $15.00. We noted that the lobster roll was priced at $43.00. I'm sure the roll is big, but we are also aware of the current market price for lobster. Has the price gone up since being featured on "You Gotta Eat Here"? The food is good, not spectacular. Spend your money at other restaurants that leave you feeling satisfied and your wallet a little lighter."

"The look is great, walking distance from hotel. Great restaurant if you want beef. The mussels are excellent, I recommend it. Also ask for the spicy mayo for your fries, it's delish."

"I was hosting a lunch for three of my clients and must admit we were all impressed with the service. However, the coffee and tea was initially served lukewarm. Warmer coffee/water was provided after we requested it. The seafood chowder was mostly fair (again, not warm enough, although the flavour was good) however, surprisely, I did not have any seafood in it. (mostly very large potatoe chunks that had to be cut up) The side order of toasted bread was also cold. This is a prime location for us to entertain clients and I would like to continue to do so in the future. Thank you."

"My daughter and I had Steak and Fries. The steak was very thin. Not worth the $17.25 price tag. My other daughter had the buttermilk chicken which she enjoyed. We didn't care for the fries. Menu was very limited."

"We greatly enjoy the Ale House and would recommend it to our friends and family as a great place to eat. There was no waiting for a table as we had a reservation and the service was terrific. Lighting and sound was excellent. Overall great place to go."
