"The food is always consistent and just great!!! Have recommended the Blue Ox to several of my clients and any one that goes calls me to tell me how great it was. Took out a friend Saturday night it was her first time there and she loved it...she said the best martini she ever had and the food was superb."

"We try to frequent this place because it's somewhat local. The table is never ready when we arrive and there's usually a 15 minute wait in a cramped space. On this visit the waitress was clearly not happy, she had the personality of a mean school teacher. The poor bus boy had no idea who had ordered what and when directed (by us) he had no idea how to properly place the dishes.
No one raved about their meals (other than the butter which is alway a treat). I ordered the soft shell crabs from the specials menu. Delicious when simply prepared, these were over seasoned, over cooked, and a major disappointment."

"We decided to try The Blue Ox after several positive recommendations, and made Mother's Day reservations. Our server was great, just the right amount of checking in. Our appetizers were timely, tasty and well presented. My wife ordered the Boneless Half Chicken, which was colorful, but very dry and under seasoned. My daughter and I had the Hangar Steak, which was OK, but the fried potatoes that came with it were aggressively seasoned, making it hard to enjoy what felt like very well-cooked fries. Desserts were pretty weak, considering the attention and reviews of this place. The Strawberry-Rhubarb Tart had a tasty filling, but the crust was thick and tough and undercooked, as well as not very "gourmet" in appearance, sort of a let down."

"Going out for Mother's Day dinner is usually a gamble, i.e., "special" menus that are not so special, poor service, mediocre food quality. That was absolutely NOT the case at The Blue Ox!
Took my mother and aunt and we were greeted warmly, and seated right away. Service was attentive (team of three worked together beautifully) and the food as good as I've experienced there previously. They did offer a special menu, 3 course prix fixe, with great variety for the first and second courses, and 2 delectable desserts. They had the asparagus/tomato salad (tomatoes were amazing), I had an excellent tuna tartare. Entrees were filet mignon done to perfection and cdelicious pan seared cod. Hats off to The Blue Ox team for a great Mother's Day!"

"Where has The Blue Ox gone? Our service was woefully bad. Ignored, disrupting, disrespectful. A salad ordered without a couple of items came with both. It returned with one of the items. A third time, it came back without the dressing, and had shrunk by about half. Our hummos was delicious, so we ordered another; it tasted nothing like the first. Perhaps they added a second lemon? We were also charged for a side order of pita that came with it. With each return, our server became more and more surly, but it was his mistake. Did I mention rude? This person should look for another line of work. The tuna tartare was very good, until we dug into the "chive cream" that was more a blob of Philly with a chive stirred in. Oh boy."

"This restaurant is great for couples who want great food and wine but also want to bring their little ones to dinner. The place is very kid-friendly since its fairly loud, has a small kids menu and an accomodating staff. The service is fast and very attentive. The lobster tacos, bolognese and cinnamon ice cream were great."

"Had concert tickets in Lynn so decided to try Blue Ox based on great reviews. We were not disappointed! We were late due to traffic and downpours but had called ahead. At first I was worried about noise level but we were led into the main dining area and that was much better. Our server was prompt and friendly, checked in enough but not intrusively. Really appreciated her asking if we were planning on going to show so the chef could plan accordingly. Our food was delicious and they try to use local sources as much as possible. Nice cocktails, addictive butter (drop of maple syrup added!) and really good coffee!
The location is a bit hard to find but well worth the trip and only a few blocks from venue! Will definitely go back!"

"We went to the blue ox to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had the best service I've ever experienced. Attentive but not oppressive, they even surprised us with a delicious dessert. We weren't expecting it but we're completely surprised and thankful. The food was amazing. My salmon was luscious, creamy and had the tastiest crispy skin. The couscous was flavorful and quite enjoyable. My husband loved his ravioli and tried his first ever ramp. All in all best experience ever and will be going back again and again."

"The food was excellent our waiter was not. I know it is not his fault but the bar made a mitske on my dad's Bombay on the rocks, next they forgot to give him a soup spoon for his chowder appetizer. My mother ordered a second beer which was taking forever. My father had to remind him twice to bring a second drink for my husband and himself and oh yeah he brought my moms beer after all our plates had been cleared which she naturally declined. Not impressive service for the price of the food. It is a busy bar but an experienced server would have been able to handle it. My husband and I enjoy eating there and brought my parents for the first time, we were embarrased by the service."

"Have been to The Blue Ox a few times and this was by and far the best experience yet! The other times we had gone it was VERY loud, we had to almost yell at one another while having a conversation. They have fixed the problem the best they could and it was much easier to carry on a conversation. We had fried pickles (great) and crab cakes (so-so). Cocktails were good. For our entrees I had the halibut with duck (EXCELLENT!!) special and my husband had the hanger steak (always done well). We tasted a habanero beer which was very interesting and surprisingly tasty. Though a sip or two was enough. Could never have had a full glass. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgable. Glad to see this place is doing so well in downtown Lynn."

"We love the blue ox. Evrything is done right here. My wife and i have been about five times now. Every single time we get amazingly fresh food and great service. I would recommend this restaurant to any age group. Casual but elegant. This our favorite place by far"

"Dinner reservations for eight on a Sunday - Confirmed 5:00 reservation.
Arrive ten mins early and wait by the door as young hostess informed us the staff was in a meeting gatherd around our reserved table.
Appitizers and Food were excellent!
Our table was way to close to a staff work station.
After appetizers I hoped our server would have cleaned our table and prepare for the main course further, hoped we'd been provided with fresh eating utensils. Not the case!
In a fine eating establishment when the main couse is served, typically all at once - Three dishes delved. Then a few more and finally the rest.
Long wait for desert that was ordered at time of reservation and confirmed upon arrival.
Not informed of auto 20% gratuity ADDED!"

"Our first dining experience: The Blue OX was fun & delectibly delicious!!
There are many choices on the menu with dollar friendly prices and a variety of select wines. Variety of people enjoying a friday evening with laughter & smiling faces around the bar.
One person in our party needed to alter her entree because of food issues. Our wait person accommodated her easily & politly with a 'no problem' approach. How refreshing.
Overall, the service was superb!! Our Reservation, done on-line, was returned promptly with a phone call confirming our reservation.
A side note: The Blue Ox is just a few walking blocks to the Memorial Auditorium.
We will go back soon for another enjoyable and tasty experience."

"I have been to the Blue Ox several times--and I've loved it every time. This time I went with a party of 7, and it was awesome! Advance reservations got us a great table, service was terrific, and the food was superb. Most of us got the filet mignon special, and the plates were practically licked clean. Amazing! And the thoughtful waiter stuck a candle in one of the desserts un-asked--just to acknowledge our friend's special day. Amazing and I loved it. and the 5 people who had never been yet? It's their new favorite place."

"I booked a table 2 weeks ago on open table ...asked for a nice table. When we arrived we were given probably the worst table for 4 in the restaurant...next to the hostess stand, where every one comes in, cold draft, noise from tv's and the bar. That table should be for walk in s or last minute reservations and paeople should be told of its location. That ruined our night. we couldnt hear ourselves think, never mind converse and celebrate what was supposed to be a special celebration"
