The Mission
Old Town Scottsdale’s heart is beating to a Latin drum, now that The Mission has arrived and brightened the restaurant scene. Renowned Zinc Bistro Chef Matt Carter is now cooking up modern Latin cuisine blending influences from Spain, Mexico, Central America and South America. Home made Tortillas, Arepas, and Salsas are made fresh daily and all meats are prepared on a Plancha or a grill using pecan and mesquite wood that instills a rich flavor.

"We found The Mission on accident...taking a wrong turn while walking to another restaurant...only saw it from the outside and what we could see of the inside was it looked elegant and intriguing. We booked a table for the following night without any expectations; however we were pleasantly surprised and immediately excited as soon as we opened the menu!
The waitress we had was very cordial; however, another member of the wait staff approached us after noting we had taken quite a bit of time intently staring at the wine list and began to offer exceptional descriptions of the wine, and upon our decision brought, poured and recommended food pairings. There's not enough space to type just how exceptional our experience at The Mission was - GO"

"The Mission is in short, fantastic. The ambience is superb. Romantic yet not claustrophobic. Interior design is very artistically done. You almost feel like you are in a trendy hidden gem in the east village, not Scottsdale. The food is amaaaaazing. Kale salad is divine. Seared tuna is exquisite. Wine list is both very upscale yet accessible to any budget. Service is first rate. The Mission will be a place we will frequen when coming through Phoenix."

"Enjoyable evening with good food and good service. The table side guacamole was exceptional. Tables in back were a little quieter being not as close to the bar activity, not offensive, just a little loud for my preference. Also, tables for two were small, by the time drinks, guacamole and salads were on the table it was crowded and reaching for chips/salsa/guacamole was precarious."

"Not only were the scallops perfect but the service and ambiance outshined it all. I can truly say I had the best waiter I have ever had (Sam). Very polite, funny, knowledgable waiter that made my dinner date truly perfect. I most definitely will be a repeat customer!

"It's tough to review The Mission. On each visit the food has been very good but there is always some front of the house or other problem (friends who have been there have experienced the same thing). On this visit they were out of several items we wanted to order and were somewhat disorganized on service. Go for the food but expect issues."

"I had heard many good things about this restaurant, but dined there recently for the first time to celebrate a friend's birthday. I had requested a table on the patio, but when we arrived (for lunch) it was quite warm outside. While the patio areas are lovely, there are no misters, and after a few minutes, we wished we had a table indoors. The staff very graciously reset our table and accommodated us inside. Our meal was delicious (the guacamole really is remarkably good), but it was the impeccable service we received that really impressed me,- truly first class, and way above and beyond anything I have ever encountered in similar restaurants in this area. I will definitely be back."

"Don't go here for a romantic dinner. It's a wide open bar and restaurant and it's noisy. With that being said, the food was really good. I had the crispy cola pork for an appetizer. OMG, that was one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life! It really was enough for a meal. I was full after that. My husband had the duck carnitas empanadas and he loved them equally as well. I had the marinated hangar steak, and it was a gigantic portion There was no way a person could eat all that food! It was really delicious. My husband had a tuna dish that was the special of the night, and he really loved it too. Definitely would return."

"Our experience began with the phone call I made to the restaurant as we headed south on the 101 explaining we would be 10 minutes late for our 6:15 reservation. I was told that if we were 15 minutes late they would give away our table. (So much for calling ahead!). We arrived with a few minutes to spare and were told by the hostess that we had until 8:00 to dine as they had another party reserved for our table. The seafood stew was in edible: Overloaded with salt. Swordfish was the size of my thumb and lacking in flavor. When we expressed an interest in the dessert menu at around 7:50, we were told we needed to vacate our table. Complaints to the manager were not taken seriously and my group felt humiliated by the dining experience."

"My go-to restaurant when entertaining friends and family in town. Food was fantastic, our server was super! 1 star off my overall score for rough start on arrival - made reservations on 4-26, email confirm on 5-11, followed by call from hostess on 5-11 asking me to call back and confirm my reservation - which I did - informed on arrival Sunday I did not have a reservation. After showing them my email confirmation and a few minutes of discomfort, we were seated promptly and the service I've expect from the Mission righted itself. Received an apology for the mishap on the way out. I'll attribute this slip to Mother's Day Brunch madness. If you haven't tried the Mission yet - you should go!"

"In honor of my son's graduation from ASU we had a celebratory dinner at Mission with family and friends. The atmosphere is perfect-- vibrant, low light, fun and eclectic. We chose three spectacular appetizers to share: fantastic table-side guacamole, corn gorditas and out of this world pork belly. The entrées were more hit and miss. The filet was delicious, and so was the flat iron steak. The scallops were fair. The tacos where yum but too small for hungry college boys. The service was great; they allowed us to dine slowly and enjoy our party. The Staff asked us what we were celebrating and brought out a delicious sparkling dessert for all of us to share. Thank you Mission for making our son's graduation extra special!"

"The Mission is our favorite restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale - the atmosphere is great for groups or even a romantic diner out. We love the preamarigartias and the unique blending of food items. Service is excellent but would recommned doing the early dining hours and sometimes they get backed up and have a small kitchen. Highly recommend."

"This was the best meal we had in Scottsdale! Great limoncello margaritas and tableside guacamole. Our server was Heidi, and she was very accomodating for a special request and the service was friendly and outstanding. Get the flat iron steak if you like very tender, flavorful steak."

"Everything was wonderful except for the lighting. We had a 5:15 reservation, so it was still daylight, but the restaurant was so dark that the waiter used a flashlight to show us what our food looked like. I asked if they could turn the lights up just enough for us to see what we were eating and he said that they like to keep them that low. It was a shame because they go to a lot of trouble on the food presentation, but the customers can't see how great it looks!"

"This is not your typical Latin American restaurant. It is more of a contemporary, high-end restaurant with a Latin twist. The food is excellent and there is a good variety for different tastes. The staff are energetic and helpful. The wine and drink list is long enough to cover whatever you are in the mood for. I highly recommend The Mission. Make sure you call ahead and make reservations."

"Nothing but good things to say! Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. She seemed to enjoy her job and showed genuine excitement about the food. We started with the tableside guacamole, delicious! Now I'm a foodie, I've been on MasterChef and I'm a two time state barbecue champion. Let me just say a few things about the crispy cola pork. This is the dish I've been dreaming about! A dish cooked to such perfection is a rare find and the owners of this place need to know they've got a truly special dish here. Moving to mains, the duck confit was delicious. The scallops with smoked bananas, while slightyly overcooked, was a fine dish. The chicken tacos were delicious and the steak with cheese bread was cooked very well."

"We have dined here before and as always it is one of the best places to go in Phoenix.
The Latin cusine is full of mouth watering flavor bite after bite. The atmosphere is stimulating and romantic at the same time. We started our dinner with the duck empanatas which are delicious. This time they were a little bit too doughy as compared to before but still flavorful. My husbands tuna dish was excellent. I had a shrimp appetizer that was a flavor explosion. The major plus that evening was our gracious server Michael who may be the best server I have encountered in Phoenix. He let us know when the food was coming, always checked on us to see if we needed another drink and was charming. Wonderful Evening!"

"What a Gem! We had the pleasure of dining here for our friends' anniversary and The Mission could not have been a better choice.
