Trattoria Il Panino is the kind of place that one would expect to find along the Amalfi Coast. It is a warm, friendly, unpretentious and a food-focused environment. From the casual and positive energy of the atmosphere and waitstaff, to the serious and professional energy of the kitchen, the front
and back of the house form a desirable marriage. Il Panino is what it is, thank God!
"Great food! Great wine list! Very busy, but good service. My husband's entree took much longer than everyone else's, so he was given a free glass of (very good) wine. Food exceeded our expectations."

"Tasty and enjoyable food; attractively presented dishes. Service however is cheerful, but not good enough considering the prices : simple details like water glasses not refilled; seated for 10 minutes before bread arrived. I had the same complaint at my last visit."

"Food was sensational! Just like nonna used to make but with a modern flare. Servers were charming. The ambiance is very rustic. Overall, our BEST experience with Italian cuisine in North America to date!"

"Really 5 stars for the food which was incredible. The pasta, sauces, everything was amazing and even unique. Love Italian food and this was a tweek different than you may find elsewhere but clearly steps above. Would recommend the lasagna in an amazing blush tomato sauce or any of the pastas. We saw people next to us get some other pasta dishes that looked amazing. Staff was a bonus - but they were genuinely very friendly and down to earth. The ambiance to be honest I'd give 4 stars. There is a main room and an outdoor spot. We sat in the outdoor section. The indoor was a little cramped. The outdoor was a little plain - wooden chairs, plain brick wall. Ok, but so what. It was clean and the food earns this place 5 stars."

"Basement seating (felt like Durgin Park). Amatriaciana (sp?) pasta: tasted like basic red sauce with pancetta. Good, but not something I'd get again. Seafood platter: scallop tasted fishy and didn't taste "bay fresh." I was hoping for better overall. Service was mediocre. I had to walk up and give our check to the waiter since he was too busy eating his own pasta to come pick it up from our table. The killer was the tv which - I'm guessing - is meant to add ambiance with a DVD of the sights of Sicily. They must have gotten bored of setting it up, because it was on the menu screen "Play/Stop/Menu" with a loop of an aerial shot of an excavation site. So that's what I stared at all night. With so many choices, I wouldn't go back again."

"Veal saltimbocca lasagna, gnocchi amazing. Bit chilly sitting outside on a cool April evening, but considering there's little chance you'll get one of the scarce indoor tables even with a reservation, which we had, it was fine, especially when the warm air ducts pumped some heat on us. Service was super friendly, neighborly and efficient. Considering the quality of the food, the prices are very reasonable. For dessert, go around the corner and join the line for Mike's. And forget parking; take the T or a cab. Enjoy!"

"I know that most restaurants in the North End would not disappoint, but in my experience Trattoria Il Panino has been in a league of its own. Over the course of the last few years, I have dined at Trattoria Il Panino well over a dozen times and I have never been disappointed by the quality of food and the dining experience there. Everything I have ordered has been expertly prepared - especially their homemade pasta dishes, which are out of this world. I can't recommend this restaurant enough!"

"What a great place and excellent cuisine. I can't remember the last time the entire staff of a resturant was so sincerely appreciative of providing their services. For a small place, they certainly have honed their skills in the kitchen and on the floor.
The food is incredible. Sometimes choosing the daily special is akin to having some spiced up leftovers at home, not the case here."

"Trattorio Il Panino continues to serve the best Italian food I've ever experienced. I've yet to have a bad meal there. One time I went 6 weeks without eating there and I truly felt something was missing from my life.
I will forever be a regular there."

"Loved the food and the front room. Very well organized reservations, we were actually seated within 5 minutes of our 8 o'clock. The Caesar Salad made with a light dressing was really nice and all in all the prices were reasonable for the North End. We love Antico Forno but the noise level there is too much for us, so this was a good alternative. Try the Frutti de Mare....delish!Our waitress was knowledgeable about wine and asked the right questions..we had a very nice red from Montipulciano. Felt very much like a Italian trattoria!"

"Food was good, but if you aren't a local definitely felt segregated. We were sat in the front of the restaurant with no other people in the room. When other guests arrived, who appeared to know the staff, they were brought to the other room (which was bustling). We did not feel welcome and therefore would not recommend to any one visiting the Boston area!"

"I had been to Trattoria Il Panino enough years ago that I thought the shine might have worn off - but I was happily wrong! This is a great place to experience North-End life (bustling, loud, warm) and sample soem terrific food. The menu is not exciting or original, but every bite is absolutely delicious. I had the spinach gnocchi with short-ribs (excellent) my husband and son had the Oso Bucco (quote of the night re his fist taste of bone marrow: "Mummy! This bone meat is so good!") and my daughter hit the home run with mushroom-truffle ravioli. She is now a die-hard truffle fan, so thanks for that. It's crowded and not elegant, but the food is just what you want from Italian cooking."

"Always wonderful food. On a Wednesday night we had a seafood pasta dish that was fabulous. The pasta is so fresh. The seafood cooked and spiced perfectly. We have been going to Il Panino 2 to 3 times a year for the past 13 years. This was the first time we saw the outdoor patio open in the winter. It is enclosed and heated but we opted to move into the main restaurant as it is very loud in the patio. Luckily, everyone was very nice and accommodating. I can't recommend the restaurant enough. The food, wine, and service are always outstanding. The ambience is fun, casual. It's not the most romantic setting but it is always comfortable."

"We were seated in the heated patio area which was extremely comfortable. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. They have an excellent wine selection, as well as a wonderful menu. My dauther and I had the risotto, which was excellent, and my husband had a pasta special that was served right in the skillet. We were all laughing at him because it looked like he licked the pan! We would definately return, and I would love to eat there in the spring/summer/fall to enjoy the patio."

"We were greeted at the front door of the restaurant by the host who was trying to bring people into the establishment, and we told the host we had already made reservations. Having read the reviews on Open Table I knew there was ample seating in the downstairs, but he explained all tables were full and the host tried to seat us in the front room with the take-out ambiance and kids in strollers at 8:30 at night. The host explained all other tables were full and when we expressed we made reservations his only offer was for us at the table in the noisy front room - we left."

"It was one of the worst places I have ever been to. I walked out after 10 minutes. I will never go back there again. The seating, service and professionalism was so bad I can't believe this place is still in business. The way I was treated really angers me, but I understand there's places in Boston where it will happen. You just have to note it, let it go and stay away from the place. It's really a shame because I had good expectations for this place. I was a server/bartender for years and would never think this type of experience is possible unless the place just does not care about standards. I certainly wish this place the best of luck. Hopefully in time, they can make some improvements."

"I have been here before, but this was by far the worst experience. If it weren't for the good food, I would not go back. I made a reservation with OpenTable, and after I sat down, the restaurant cancelled my reservation. Odd? I suppose they didn't want to honor my points? Thanks. Next, we waited a full 20 minutes, then had to get up and ask for a waiter. 2 groups came in after us and were served. Finally, we had to use our phones as flashlights to see the menu. I was dining with 2 other young men, all of us in our 20s. We don't have vision problems. But this was unnecessarily dark! There are better spots in the North End for a great meal. I'd save this one for lunch only as they do a better job during the day."

"We went to Trattoria Il Pannino for our anniversary. The main dining area when you wal in is quite small, but they have a downstairs area that we didnt get to see and as diners came into the establishment, they went downstairs and it seemed to accommodate a good number of people. Our waiter was excellent! We asked for the wine to be decanted and he did that with no problem. At the end of the meal, he made us the best cup of expresso I have had in a long, long time. The food was delicious! You must try the Shrimp Limoncello appetizer. I could have made a meal out of that. Service was great, food was great, price...a little high...but that can be said about almost every restaurant in Boston's North End. Highly recommend."

"We sat in the heated outdoor area, which had a very nice ambiance but was a touch on the too hot side. The service was good and the food was delicious. We had the Caesar salad, lasagna of the day, and fettuccine with pesto, all of which were very good. The wine is a bit on the pricey side. Overall this is a great restaurant for a low key romantic occasion."

"Away from the well trodden path of Hanover Street, you will find some of the best home made pasta in North End. The food is consistently of high quality, has enough variations that you will need to stop one more time at least. The servers make you feel home. Highly recommended!"

"Only x1 dessert offered. (Tiramisu, which was just "OK.") Also the stuffed artichoke appetizer was very good! I would have liked to have an antipasti plate- "a little taste of olives, cheeses, etc, while sipping a glass of wine, and then ordering the main dish. It was not crowded, but we felt a little bit rushed. The dessert was disappointing. If it were not so freezing cold out that night, we would have walked elsewhere for dessert & coffee or over to Modern Pastry for a cannoli..."
