"The restaurant's menu reads better than the actual execution. The staff are friendly and efficient, we didn't ask them for any help with our choices but our table had a wide sampling of the kitchen's menu. Most of the meals were ok, nothing really of note other than the homemade fettucini and crab was ruined by a heavy hand with the thick cheese sause (can't really claim an Alfredo). The cream of lobster bisque was thin."

"An amazing Mother's Day dinner. While the waiter was not as smooth as he tried to be, everything else was sublime. The famous lobster risotto was well worth the rave reviews- and not as expensive as it may deserve to be! Our family had the risotto, a special of risotto with shrimp, the "gigantic free-form" crab ravioli, and the cappelli (?) with crab and asparagus. We basically licked our plates clean!
Would definitely recommend for anyone who likes seafood, Italian food, or just plain great food."

"Having dined at this restaurant since its opening, we are always pleased to return to Geranio for dependable food and wine offerings. We had to make a last-minute reservation for a party of eight on a Sunday evening, and thanks to Open Table, this was easily done! The staff had our table ready as soon as we arrived. Given that we were hosting clergy from out of town, we had some special needs, each of which the staff dispatched with ease! Their advice on the wine selections was first rate, the entrees were very good and promptly served, and the wine carefully monitored so that everyone enjoyed the evening. Thank you, Clayton and Staff for a "home away from home" in your comfortable Italian restaurant!"

"Geranio is one of our favorite restaurants. It is a moderately priced gem in an area that has much higher priced competition. We often bring guests here who live in the Washington Metro area and have never heard of Geranio. All of them are surprised at just how good it is for the money. High recommendations!"

"I've eaten at Geranio on many occasions and the food and service are usually very good. This time the service fell short. My son and I had dinner there and the waiter seemed disinterested and, in fact, stopped serving out table. We had to get our check from another waiter. This service was definitely not up to Geranio's normal standards."

"I was looking for an Italian restaurant in Old Town for lunch with a friend. I saw the reviews for Geranio and thought we'd give it a try. So glad we decided to go! Geranio is a lovely, quaint place. Very quiet at lunchtime. We sat near the fireplace which was welcome on a cold, windy day. We started with a basket of warm bread. My friend had the potato leek soup & caesar salad with salmon - she loved both. I had a caesar salad and wild mushroom risotto. The rave reviews for their risotto are warranted. Probably the best risotto I've had in a restaurant - just perfect! I wasn't even aware of Geranio - it's been there for years, but will definitely return! Can't wait to try their pasta dishes. This is my new go-to place for Italian food!"

"We tried Geranio based on other reviews that I read online. I am happy to say we also had a very pleasant dinner there. We were celebrating a birthday in the group and I mentioned it when I made the reservation online with OpenTable. They reserved a nice table for us by the front window which looked out on King Street. After dinner they brought the birthday girl a complimentary dessert with a candle in it. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. We would definitely return again."

"Excellent food poor service. Our server didnt tell us any of the specials we had to ask after ordering. Our table was broken and very unstableour wine glasses nearly fell over every time a server walked by and bumped it. Probably would not go back given the countless choices in old town alexandria."

"We had a party of ten, including two visitors from Scotland. It was essentially a reunion of people who had worked very closely together in 1999-2000 at the Scottish Court in the Netherlands (long story). The table was ready, and in a location where we could hear each other talk. There were plenty of servers, the food was well prepared and came in a timely fashion, and at the same time. The service continued to be attentive, but not intrusive. The bill was quite reasonable considering what everybody had. This was a special occasion with folks who hadn't seen each other in over ten years. With a group this large on a Saturday night it could have been problematic, and it was just great! Everybody had a wonderful time. We will go back!"

"Not impressed wirh the food, some of the entries were way to salty and other had no flavor at all. Deserts were also a big disappointment. Definitely not a quality food as we thought it will be. Service was ok but some of the waiters need more training on how to properly serve around the tables."

"I really enjoyed Geranio's. The food was excellent--but beware of the steamed broccoli; it's quite peppery and bitter (the waiter warned me of the bitterness upfront). The Atlantic Salmon was exceptionally good as well as the wilted spinach. The atmosphere was very pleasing. The rustic look of the brick and plaster gave the feel of Italy while the music was pleasant and soothing and the crowd was sizeable, but the noise level was comfortable. Conversation was easy and enjoyable. Most of the night, the staff attended to us in bulk; 3 different waiters accommodated us steadily; almost to an annoyance. They were courteous and attentive and that added to the enjoyment of the night. I will return and I recommend you give it a try t"

"My wife ordered orzo with shrimp, but the orzo was only half cooked. Worse, I ordered the swordfish, but it had no fish in it! The bruschetta had no tomatoes on it. Overall -- not a very good dining experience at all. I called the manager about it and he was supposed to call me back, but never did."

"I was immediately seated upon arriving for a 6:30 reservation. Server immediately asked about a drink order as we waiting for a late arriving member of the party. Dinner orders were taken soon after final drink order was made. Dinner arrived reasonably quicky after the order was taken. Water glasses were constantly filled. My lobster risotto was delicious. My dining partners were pleased with their roasted chicken and swordfish plates. Deserts were wonderful as well. The check arrived after we were finished all eating. As there were no guests waiting, we were allowed to tarry to continue our conversation. The dining room was resonably quiet. I had not complaints and usually I can come up with one or two. It was a very nice dining experience"

"Was seated at a tiny table near a staircase and a coat closet. The sound of people going up and down the stairs was the most annoying part of the night. Was served our starter salads before any bread was brought to the table, the bread was hard to eat due to how hard the crust was. Service was slow. The food was ok, couldve made it at home. The best part of the night was the tiramisu desert, that was really good."

"Delicious, authentic Italian - some of the best I've had in DC. Particularly enjoyed the homemade pasta and the veal/mushroom marinara ragout - close to how grandma used to make it. Cute, cozy, and romantic - good choice for Valentine's Day. Service was prompt, responsive, professional, and friendly. Great location - finding a parking space in Old Town close to the restaurant was not a problem, and Geranio's is right across the street from two great bars (for either Happy Hour before dinner, or drinks afterwards)."

"Geranio's has and continues to be one of our most favorite restaurants. It's hard to say which excels most - the food or the service. Our meal was perfect and service was excellent.
I had ordered flowers for the evening and Geranio's had them placed perfectly on the table. No detail is left out by the staff.
I don't know if this is the proper forum, but the flowers ordered via Open Table are not worth it. They looked fine at the table, but had withered within 24 hours. For the price, they should have lasted a bit longer. I would not use that service again."
