"We have never had anything less than an outstanding visit at Virgil's but our dinner on this night was completely different. Our food was cold, the food tasted just ok and my husbands entree was tough. This is completely opposite of what we have come to expect at Virgil's. we have told so many people about this restaurant but if we have another dinner like this one, I'm sad to day it may be our last visit."

"Virgil's is always a pleasure. My pork shanks were great. My wife's seafood stew with potatoes was good, the seafood quite tender, perhaps the potatoes overwhelmed the dish a bit. the Cajun shrimp and mushrooms were excellent, especially with plenty of good bread for dipping out the sauce. My wife woulnd't let me pick up the plate and lick it...."

"Very much enjoyed Virgil's. Excellent beer selection with locals on draft and a diverse bottle selection. Solid wine list too. Best crab cakes ever. Fantastic bread. My salad was just so so. The ladies loved the dessert. The setting is very nice with a homey environment accentuated with vibrant art. Only slight negative is sound is magnified in the place and at times it grew to a dull roar."

"Had a great dinner at Virgil's! I tried the hot slaw for the first time and it was different from other area restaurants, but GOOD! Adding the bleu cheese YUM! I did have a case of entree envy. I ordered the Poutine au Pouive, which was very good. However I wish I would have ordered the pork shank that someone else at the table ordered. It looked AMAZING! Give it a try!"

"We have been there a few times and the food is sstill good but not amazing anymore (a few menu items removed and the specials usually run out even earlier than expected). Nice bar menu but a HUGE raise in house wine by the bottle price. Also, chairs that are missing upholstery, bottom cushions and some that are tiny folding-chairs were a bit unacceptable.
We really like Virgil's and hope that this was just a blip on the map."

"We really enjoyed the menu choices. Everyone in our party had a differs entree. All choices we ordered were delicious. "Our party of four was there for dinner on a Wednesday night. While I've seen all the reviews and even the episode of Triple D on Food Network raving about this restaurant, we weren't all that impressed. I was really rooting for the place and hoping it was as great as everyone said it would be, but the food was mediocre to say the least. One of the sandwiches ordered from our table was burnt, another had the burger and he said it was way too dry. I had the pasta and well…it was pasta. Our drinking glasses sat empty for a majority of the dinner. I also noticed the table next to us must have had some issues with their dinners as the chef/owner made a few appearances apologizing for the crawfish. In all, our 3 sandwiches, 1 bowl of pasta, and"

"The ambiance, food, and (overall) service was great. I went there for Valentine's day with a first date and had planned for flowers to be sent to the restaurant. The hostess agreed to have them on the table when we arrived, which they did. This was obviously supposed to be a surprise to my date. However, as we entered the restaurant and I gave the hostess my name, she mentioned "oh, your flowers are on the table". I would have much rather my date seen the flowers and be surprised, than to hear it from some hostess that didn't really need to say anything.

"We found Virgil's online and the reviews were great so we thought we would give them a try. After searching for parking and hiking to the restaurant we were greeted by a hostess on the phone who turned to avoid eye contact while she finished her call. When she hung the phone up instead of welcoming us she asked if we had a reservation (we did) and proceeded to lead us to our table. While entering the room a couple was leaving a table by a window and my wife asked if we could have that table and was told that we could not. Our waitress was great but we felt pushed the entire evening. The food was OK ending with a lava cake that was overcooked and the "lava" was more of a brick. With a few changes this restaurant could be much, much better."

"Virgil's is one of my favorite brunch spots! Their bloody Mary's are delish, especially in the summer when garnished with fresh herbs from the backyard garden. All the bread - even the English muffins - is homemade. The brunch menu changes each week, which keeps things seasonal and fresh. "We were looking for a fun, unique spot for our daughter's birthday brunch. She is a senior at Xavier and her Dayton family wanted to take her out. We had a great brunch at Virgil's, made the on-line reservations the evening before. Arrived about 5 minutes before noon, the staff was friendly, informative, and attentive. Food very good and soup (shrimp bisque) was excellent. Would definitely go again. We followed our Virgil's dining with a trip to the Krohn Conservatory and had a great day."

"Virgil's is a great dining spot. Unfortunately it is so small that it has not yet made arrangements that will keep the cold air out of the dining area. If seated across from the door food will be cold before it can be eaten. With a curtain at the door or a 2 door entryway in the side this could be easily fixed.
Our server moved us to a better table and we were able to enjoy and visit with our daughter.

"I've eaten at Virgil's many times, but I have to say the last two times I was a little disappointed with the food. The ettouffee lacked the andouille sausage (none at all) and the sauce that smothered the dish fell flat. Also, the bread was very fresh but the butter was so hard it was unspreadable. The restaurant was pretty chilly, so we asked to be moved away from the window, but found the side walls just as cold. One last thing, after eating my "hot slaw" that was so smothered in sauce, my knife was coated. Rather than bring a clean knife, the waitress just scraped it off and left it on the plate. Not good. My criticism is constructive only in hopes that these things can be fixed so my next experience will be better."

"Had a really good time with another couple who we had not see for a while. Both couples had been to Virgil's separately before. First time together, but won't be the last."

"I have been to Virgil's before and had a better experience. It was extremely cold in the restaurant...especially seats by the doors. I know it is an old house, but I think they needed to turn up the heat. My food was just ok that evening. However on previous visits it was much better."
