Besito - West Hartford
Besito (Little Kiss, in English) serves authentic Mexican food and is home to tableside guacamole and the Besito Patron Margarita. Besito serves lunch and dinner everyday. Food specialties include classic tortilla soup, tamales with shrimp and chipotle adobo, ceviche made daily, boneless short ribs of beef and enchiladas suizas. We serve over 60 world class tequilas in our Agave Lounge in an atmosphere of old, rustic Mexico and sophistication bringing back memories of your last Mexican vacation!
Blue Back Square is Besito's first location in Connecticut. Our two other locations are located in Long Island, New York. Besito - Huntington opened up in February 2006 and Besito - Roslyn opened in January 2007.

"Staff was great, while parking in West Hartford can always be a challenge the bar tender was willing to trade our dollars for quarters. The food was great, all tasty sauces on signature dishes. Would have liked a bit more heat to dishes but overall a satisfying meal."

"Went to Besitos for my wife's birthday. Had been there many times before and liked it. This time the quality had come down quite a bit. The margaritas were watery and lacking flavor. We had to send our meals back as they were not cooked to the requested level of doneness. The portions were noticeably smaller and more expensive. We were very disappointed and won't return to pay their high prices relative to the quality and portions we received."

"We had an excellent meal at this place, sitting on the terrace. The menu has Tex Mex staples as well as some very innovative dishes such as he scallops with Mexican truffle sauce that I had. We were just driving through that night but I would definitely go back if I were in the area."

"Every other time Besito's service was excellent and food fabulous. This time the service was sub sub par. First drink came in moderate time, but the second we almost felt we had to beg for it. 2 tables away were on their 3rd drink before we even received our 2nd. The guacamole which is usually good, was bland. We asked for spicy and it definitely wasn't. The server seemed very rushed to get it done. My husband asked for Hot Sauce before the meal was served and we had to ask twice after the meal was served to have it brought to us. My enchilada in the green sauce was very salty. What happened? Besito's was my special choice for my 60th birthday dinner! The meal and service left a lot to be desired. Overpriced and poor service."

"This was our first visit and we came with a large party. The table had already been set up and was waiting for us. I only wished we had the option of eating outside but was told that they wouldn't rearrange the tables outside for groups even though there were several empty tables. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience. Our server was fantastic. She was there when we needed something and took the time to explain the menu options. The food was fantastic. We had many different entrees and appetizers with our large group. The presentation was pretty and the serving sizes were plenty big enough- even the appetizers were large enough to share. We will be back!"

"Besito is a wonderfully decorated restaurant with amazing food. With high vaulted ceilings and big windows, it has a great feel to it. The table side guacamole is killer and just the chips and salsa alone are enough to make a meal. They have a wide range of food to choose from and each is more delicious that the next."

"The food was fantastic. Starting with the standard free offering of chips and salsa, moving on to appetizers of crab cake and house salad, and then entrees of carnitas and short rib tacos. While not truly hungry for dessert, we could not pass ip the opportunity to try the tres leches cake. We both left satisfied with portions and flavors that were beyond expectations."

"The food was great but the waitress was a bit pushing in assuming we wanted drinks, appetizers and how many were appropriate for the table. I felt like I had to order the drink of the day since I didn't have an opportuntiy to look at anything else before she wanted a committment. I didn't push to hold off, because I was with co-workers, but normally I would have told her that I needed to review the other options."

"Unfortunately bad service can really ruin a good meal! Our server did not return at any point during the meal to ask how our food was or to get us another glass of wine. My parents were up visiting and we were treating them to dinner. The waitress brought over churros and worry dolls without offering us a dessert menu. We had to ask for a dessert menu, which she just rattled off to us and then I had to ask the table if anyone wanted anything to drink, because she did not ask us. She paced back and forth near the server's entrance to the kitchen staring at our table. I am not sure what her problem was or if she was having an off night, but I would think twice about going back or at least get a different server."

"For a restaurant for which the NYTimes has rated as "excellent", Besito was a disappointment. There is no questioning the beautiful ambience, but other aspects fell short. My salmon was overlooked, while my plantain was undercooked. My dinner companions found their dishes fair (chile rellenos and pork tacos). Our primary server was not very attentive, though the auxiliary servers were great. The margaritas and the guacamole were to die for, though! Overall, a decent dining experience, certainly not excellent...."

"Have dined here approximately five times and meals have been very inconsistent (one meal good; one not-so-much, so we keep trying). Boneless beef was tougher than they should have been, and the "special" crab, shrimp, and lobster enchiladas had cartilage/shells in them and the white sauce was grainy.
Fresh guacamole was delicious and despite asking for the spicy version, is was very mild. Drinks were yummy.
We were there on Good Friday and both meals were awesome, so we came back. Bottom line experiences--inconsistent. We'll go again, but next time I'm getting just apps and sides."

"This was our first time to Besito's and we chose it to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food had a gourmet flair but was not down-sized as in some gourmet restaurants. The guacamole was fresh, tasty, prepared at our table. The only slight tarnish to the evening was switching our server halfway through the meal without telling us. The setting was simple, relaxing yet elegant. We will be back ...... and bring our friends!"

"One of my girl friends and I go out once a month & decided to try some place new. Besito was a great find!! They hold reservations for 15 minutes past your time just invade you're late. Which worked out for us since parking on a Saturday night can be a bit crazy. The food was amazing and while the menu may seem pricey, you get a lot of food so it's worth it. My only issue is the seating for two. They try to maximize space by having small tables really close together. It's a bit awkward when you start adding the multiplier plates and glasses as well as any bottles of water, wine, or sangria pitchers. It takes some maneuvering but not so bad that we wouldn't go again."

"The food was good, but the service wasn't. They wanted our drink order 1 minute after we sat down. Our food came within 10 minutes of ordering. It was clear that the food had been prepared ahead of time and sitting under heating lamps, given how weirdly extremely hot one of our plates was. They also couldn't wait to clear our plates and ask about desert. Had they had their way we would have been in and out the door in half an hour."

"A group of 5 of us dined at Besito for the very 1st time for dinner on April 17th. My entire party agreed that the food and service were exceptional. The restaurant is very cleverly laid out in the former town hall building with beautiful accents and finish work - the chandeliers and wall candles created a nice warm ambiance. "Being originally from Southern California, I am what some would call a Mexican food snob. I have tried a few places around the Hartford area and haven't really found anything up to par. However, all that changed once I visited Besito! The food was outstanding; very authentic. I had the Swizas enchiladas and the tomatillo sauce on top of it was so good! We also had the tableside guac which was good as well.
The best part about this whole experience? They actually read my little note I put when making a reservation on Open Table that said "birthday dinner :)". I put it thinking nobody would read it, but sure enough our server brought over dessert with a candle in it and brought it straight to me (I believe it was a tres leches cake, delish"

"It has been a long time since I ate at Besito. The last time I did not enjoy myself because it was too loud and too busy. This time was a quiet Sunday night when it was very slow. The good news is I finally enjoyed myself. I had the tacos (beef) and they were excellent. It was cooked as requested and came with a delicious marinade. The sauces served with it were unmemorable, but unneccessary with teh taste of the meat any way. The melted cheese and rice along with the salsa were just what I wanted. My wife had the enchiladas mole. She was a bit disappointed, because she was hoping for something with a little more kick to it. Her margarita was a little sweeter than she likes too. Overall we both enjoyed our dinner. Go Sundays."

"Have been to Besito a number of times and never walk away disappointed, quality selection of food and drinks and always a couple of great specials to choose between. This visit, the service was especially wonderful, can't recall the waitress's name but she was extremely knowledgeable and even recommended a 'hidden gem' dish to my girlfriend that was unbelievable."

"We have never had a bad experience here but this time we felt rushed. The guy that "help" cleaned the tables would take everything before we finished and must have came back 3 times in a matter of 5 minutes when we were eatting to see if we were done. I was not pleased with that so as soon as we were done we got the bill and left. Not happy exepecially when it's not a cheap place! Was not able to enjoy our food. Won't be going back for awhile."

"There was a large kids' birthday party nearby, and they were predictably loud, so I can't give a fair assessment of the typical atmosphere. Food was not impressive. The complimentary chips and salsa were good, fresh. I sent back the 1st appetizer of queso fundido because it was extremely salty, and the tableside guacamole that replaced it was underwhelming, a bit bland and very overpriced (I saved most of it to bring home so that I could doctor up the flavor). My entree of tacos res (steak), rice and beans were a decent sized portion, but there was absolutely nothing above average about the flavor. Our server was courteous, but not very interested in high quality service. Maybe she was annoyed from dealing with the large kids party?"
