"We ordered the cheese platter and steak and both were delicious. When we were too full for dessert we ordered the "sixer" which is a six pack for the kitchen staff for after work and the chef came out to personally thank us and get our feedback on the food. I'm a sucker for that attention!"

"My husband and I took my mom and stepfather here for brunch the day before mother's day. This was an awesome place. We each got something different and we were all very pleased in our dishes. The food was very fresh tasting. I got the chilaquiles, my husband got the quiche, and my mom and stepfather each got the 3 egg breakfast.

The service was great also. The waiter was very helpful and nice. I am a light eater and the restaurant host even came over to make sure my food was ok, because I had stopped eating and had half left on my plate. It made me happy that they care about their customers."

"My waitress was great! She suggested a virgin cocktail for me, when I asked what non-alcoholic drinks they had. But no one brought our table bread until we asked, and no one seemed to notice we had none. Also, there was a man smoking right outside the restaurant most of my dinner, which really affected my enjoyment of the meal. The scallops were well cooked with great flavors, but the scallops themselves smelled a little old. Overall a fantastic meal, but a few things kept it from being outstanding."

"It was our first time there and we went as a group x 4. Nice atmosphere, good service. Menu had some unique options. All 4 of us ordered different things to get a well-rounded perspective of the overall food quality. The execution of our meals left some to be desired. Meals served to us were luke warm and had little flavor. Based on food alone, I would give this place 2 stars. Ambience and service saved the day - so overall, I'll give this place 3 stars."

"Very knowledgable waitstaff. Food was excellent and the house special drinks (we had red sangria and a little gem) were very well put together!
Every course was delicious but we capped off the night with their ice cream sandwiches which turned out to be the most unexpected bites of awesome I'd had in a dessert in a long time. Very refreshing and innovative flavors throughout the meal!"

"The menu is always changing. The chef is always keeping it fresh. Seriously ... this place is amazing. I had food that made my trip to San Diego! La Jolla is better because of this establishment. "Amazing experience. Great tasting food and over the top customer service. When our waitress was busy taking care of another table, another waitress stepped up to provide assistance without us even asking.

When ordering, someone in our party incorrectly ordered. When the food came out, we let them that it was our mistake but they apologized to us while taking the correct order. The manager came over and insisted that we try the incorrectly ordered dish anyways while we waited and did not charge us for it.

Also spoke with them regarding their monthly Supper Club and private dining room, which was very intimate (seats 8-12). Whisknladle is on the short list for our next group dinner plans."

"Well worth the stop. We don't live in La Jolla and struggled finding restaurants we really liked. This place fits what we are looking for. An emphasis on creative food, not formal,fun but you can still take your kids to and not feel like you are ruining it for everyone else.

"We we were in La Jolla (my wife (vegetarian), 12 year old, 8 year old, and me) and wanted to splurge on a nice dinner. Nice setting. My wife and I each had wonderful cocktails. We then split a Charcuterie and cheese plate- delicious and a generous amount. Then we had crispy pigs ear and cooked asparagus with cheese, breadcrumbs, and a fried egg. Dinner was stuffed pork chops, flank steak, and gnocchi. There was not a single dish that didn't wow us. The server suggested spreading out the dishes over three courses, which enhanced our experience. The service was excellent, relaxed, and friend. No kids menu, but they would have made pasta butter. We decided to share our "real" dishes instead. spendy, but worth it."

"ALWAYS AMAZING! A group of 4 of us went there. We wanted to share everything we ordered. Without even needing to ask us, the server (I regrettably do not remember her name) set up our order so that the dishes came out one at a time so we had plenty of space at our table and we could enjoy every dish at our own pace. My boyfriend and I have been to WhisknLadle twice and all their Prep Kitchens multiple times with different group sizes and at different times. They have NEVER disappointed. I think the service gets better and better every time. The food is ALWAYS delicious, even the ones that do not sound appetizing (like bone marrow). The drinks are amazing (London is Burning.....YUM!)! This is our go-to place."

"This was our first visit to WhiskNLadle. We had tried out the Prep Kitchen in Little Italy and once we learned that these restaurants are 'related' we thought we'd give this one a try as well. We had a good experience. The service was good, the food was good, the overall experience was good. With that said I do think, given these two experiences, I prefer the Prep Kitchen in Little Italy. I liked the vibe there more. Either way, you can't really go wrong with either restaurant."

"Went there for lunch on a Saturday and found that they don't offer their regular lunch menu but rather the brunch menu on Saturdays as well as Sundays. "Lamb chop & slices were overly greasy with huge portions of fat on the chop, and slivers of bone in the slices. No more than 2 or 3 oz of edible meat for $32 is not a value. Accompanying potatoes and kale were luke-warm at best. What a disappointment! And why is the same bottle of wine $4 more here than at the much better PrepKitchen a few blocks away?"

"I made this reservation for a romantic dinner with my husband for his 30th birthday. I mentioned it in the reservation.

I was very disappointed to realize that they did not acknowledge my not AT ALL. We were sat in a corner seat that felt claustrophobic and the wait staff was less than attentive and a little awkward.

When it came to the food, it was portioned very small and over priced. For prices like that I would expect a much higher level of craftsmanship and quality.

I ordered the Flat Iron Steak, medium-well (I am pregnant and needed to have my meat more well-done). My husband ordered the duck medium rare. When our food came out my meat was very close to rare and my husbands duck was well-done."

"We had a nice,casual dinner for 4 on a noisy Saturday night. Soup and entrees were very good and portions were generous. Our waitress was pleasant, but spent too much time emphasizing the glories of family-style dining, especially since most of the entrees do not lend themselves easily to splitting. The menu is confusing, because it is difficult to tell where the small plates stop and the entrees begin."

"This restaurant was exceptionally good. Great farm to table concept that delivers on freshness and flavor. I love a place with an exciting cocktail list and theirs is not disappointing. Recommended plates: salade paysanne (delicious!), beefcheek and egg-yolk raviolo, and the butterscotch budino for dessert.

"Bone marrow was surprisingly tasty! Beef raviolo (a huge ravioli) was really good, slightly salty though. Chicken breast was perfectly cooked, not dry at all. Food was, for the most part, very well seasoned. They do not have salt and pepper on the table because they are THAT good at cooking. Great ambiance. Dimly lit so it can be romantic but also a good place for groups (they have a private room). This is all true for all their locations (all three Prep Kitchen and this Whisknladle). A MUST experience."

"My wife & I dined in their enclosed patio. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered drinks and our dinner entrees. My wife had the sea bass and I had the scallops. The sea bass was tasteless/bland and slightly undercooked. The scallops were very tasty and cooked to perfection. We received no bread, etc with our meal----truly ala carte. I found the restaurant rather crowded and noisy. Considering the cost of the meal I would rate it as just okay."

"This is an excellent restaurant and I am glad I picked it for dinner. Good food with good quality local ingredients. For me the most important attribute for a restaurant is its service. I don't care if a place has the best food in town but cannot make me feel at home. The service here is excellent and they made me feel welcome. I wouldn't think twice about going back."

"My wife had the scallops and said they were amazing!!! I on the other hand had the flat iron and was less than pleased, there was 50/50 fat/steak, and was just not very flavorful. Our waiter was a real cool guy, crakin' jokes when appropriate, and very attentive. We had champagne and that was very good, also the dessert though small was very good. It was a fun night wouldn't go out of my way for it again, but we wanted to try something new."

"Upon arriving for our meal we were told they were running a few minutes late. We were seated 45 minutes later, then waited another 15 minutes for our waiter to take the drink order. We brought a bottle of wine and the waiter wanted to serve it in the wine glasses we had previously finished from our drinks at the bar. Overall, it was a painstaking dinner. Service is half of the experience and with such poor consideration, the least the restaurant could have done was comp an appetizer or waive our corkage fee, but no such offers were made. We will not return to this chain of restaurants."

"We went during this year's restaurant week. Our table for four was ready in a few minutes. We were able to order 3 courses from their regular menu which is very unusual. We tasted four appetizers and all were well prepared with very fresh ingredients. We had hanger steak, veal and pasta for our entrees and everything was cooked perfectly with really good side dishes. Desserts were great across the board. Their management was all over the floor checking up on diners. Service was prompt and non intrusive *(consistent with all our other visits). This is a well run operation during lunch, dinner and off times (we once popped in for lunch @ 2pm). Kudos to the kitchen and the management team. Ambiance is welcoming, upscale but not stuffy"
