"Went to The Irish Inn for Pups & Pints - an outdoor fundraiser for the Montgomery County Humane Society. What a great event. Loved the music, the outdoor grill(delicious cheeseburger) & the outdoor bar. I live close by and brought my two dogs who played with the many other puppies there that night. I hope they do more events like this, great for the whole family and neighborhood. We have lived in Bethesda for 10 years, and love coming to the Irish Inn. The atmosphere is unlike any other restaurant or bar in the area. The staff are welcoming and we love being recognized and greeted with a smile. Only complaint, please bring back the Kildare Melt soon!!"

"i had a few dinners there, but none knocked me out for a quick return. i remember enjoying sitting at the bar, watching the locals. this time we had lunch on the porch; and, it was a delightful experience...everyone enjoyed their food...wait service was okay and the food, much improved from prior visits. i would easily return for "lunch on the porch". Valet parking is convenient at no extra charge."

"We have been going to this restaurant for many years, under different names and management.
The spot has always been a nice place to end up after a walk on the canal or a visit to Glen Echo park.
Now, not only is it still all of that, but the food is excellent! It's a convenient meeting point for my NOVA friends and no one is ever disappointed."

"Stopped by here after going to Glen Echo park. They have free valet parking, although I don't understand why they need it since the parking lot is right in front of the restaurant. Asked the valet if I could park my own car (since it's new) and they were fine with it, but I still gave them a tip so they wouldn't feel resentful and ding my car.
The restaurant has a nice cozy atmosphere, with cloth napkins and tablecloths as well as hardcover menus, all of which gave the impression that the food was going to be better than it turned out to be. I think you have to ask for bread, because they didn't bring any out for us although there were bread plates on the table. Service friendly but a bit on the slow side; food OK but not 'very good'"

"While I enjoyed the easy , open-air ambience of our outdoor lunch table, I am disappointed by the management's policy of a $1.50 per person cutting fee for the homemade birthday cake we brought. We were a party if six women for lunch. We had a large group appetizer, each of us ordered a $10-$14 entree and four of us ordered an alcoholic beverage. This is a popular restaurant with the local community; I would think they'd be more community minded than trying to seize every opportunity to squeeze out an extra buck! But Barry the manager was determined to charge us so we took our cake and left. I will book elsewhere for my next lunch gathering."

"We went for dinner upstairs where the food is a bit more sophisticated, although you can still have fish and chips and the rest of the pub food. Both times we had children under 12 and they were fine. I've had the fish and others had some of the beef dishes and all were very satisfied. "We went to Easter Sunday brunch and were disappointed this time around. The service was good but the food was nothing special, and not up to the level of other times we have eaten there (including previous Easter Sunday brunches). The potato-leek soup was lukewarm and we did not see any truffle oil on it (did the Irish Inn discontinue this nice flavoring touch?) The poached eggs were also lukewarm, as if the restaurant had cooked a bunch of them in advance before plating them. Or maybe some of the dishes sat under heat lamps while other dishes were being finished?"

"My friend and I had Saturday lunch at the Inn. I have been there numerous times over the past many years. We both ordered the potato leek soup and beet salad. The soup was very good but the beet salad was not as described or expected. The entire salad were beets with one piece of lettuce, a walnut and a tad of cheese. We were both very disappointed, as we expected more lettuce, walnuts, cheese etc. We felt it was poorly depicted on the menu and expressed our displeasure to the waiter. He said he would pass on our comments but honestly he could have offered a dessert on the house, since the soup was the only acceptable lunch selection we had.

"Spent a small fortune to take the family on St. Patrick's Day only to be seated on the solid canvas enclosed porch (no view) on a wooden bench and in iron porch furniture with an industrial heater blasting on us the whole time. Completely uncomfortable. Food was okay, not inspired, and not worth $25 per person given our surroundings/experience. Thankfully the beer was flowing. Service was a bit clumsy but well-meaning. Very disappointed."

"I have debated writing this review since we were there for a very busy St. Patrick's day, but in the end I think a restaurant should put its best effort into any meal. I was amazed that for $37 a person we had a limited choice of Reubens, beef stew, fish and chips and a few other things. It was a mediocre meal for an outrageous price and we went away very disappointed in our dining choice. Maybe the choices and the food itself is better on other days, but I resent being taken advantage of and just can't recommend The Irish Inn."

"We were here for dinner on St. Patrick's Day. We sat on the second floor. Service was slow, which would have been fine if we were entertained, being that it was an Irish restaurant on St. Patrick's day. We couldn't hear any music, other than an occasional drum beat from the bar downstairs, not even any music over the speakers. After an 1.5 hour dinner we went down to the bar to check out the music and still couldn't hear it. We were about 10 feet from the singer. This place was totally lame on St. Patrick's day. The food was not all that great either. Will not come back for St. Patrick's day. I have however been here before for lunch during the week and its much better."

"Our party of six had a reat time at the Inn the night before St. Patrick's day. The Inn was crowded and although we had reservations for 7:30, we had to wait util about 8 to be seated. Not to worry though, the owner came by and gave us free drinks while we watied...and he regaled us with Irish stories. It was a truly fun evening...once seated we had a great meal...try the fish and chips...or the prime rib.. Both were excellent. The wine was fine as well...although some of us drank..what elsel..Irsih beer. Valet parking was a fine extra. All I recommend highly the Irish Inn."

"We went the night before St Patrick's Day and the bar area downstairs was understandably jumping. It took a few extra minutes to get our table, but we sat upstairs in a small room and it was terrific. Not noisy, great service, and the food was delicious. A reminder we need to get back here more often."

"We had to wait 35 min. and then we asked our waiter why is it taking so long to get our meals well after people who arrived after us were almost finished with there meals. why he never stopped by our table to ask if there was a problem i do not know why. we had enjoyed this restaurant before but due to the poor service we will not return."

"The Inn's restaurant is a gem, despite the bar, which is a sufficient distance from the dining area as to be irrelevant. Many different dining rooms downstairs and upstairs add to charm. We by the way are old Washingtonians and have known the Inn since it was awful, decades ago. We like the deck and the enclosed, light-filled porch between reception and the deck. The menu is short but excellent. I've never been disappointed. The wine is a very weak point. But overall, the Inn is a place we end up quite often. It has a nice clientele, it is quiet, the tables are spaced, and the staff is attentive and wants to please."

"We ate at the Irish Inn for my husband's birthday (with my mom and sister). I chose this restaurant because I'd been there before, remembering the cozy atmosphere, and I knew he wanted to try the shepherd's pie. But after four years of absence I was very happily reminded of how delicious the food was, and how exciting it is that the attached pub (one half is dining, the other half is the pub) features live music every night!
Also, my mom accidentally left an envelope full of cash at the restaurant, and after worriedly notifying them, they called her back to tell her they'd had someone look for it in the trash, who actually found it! Amazing.

"We went on Valentine's Day for dinner, and the fixed price menu was exceptional, providing excellent choices. The rack of lamb was well seasoned and well prepared, the potato leek soup was wonderful...and the molten chocolate cherry cake and bread pudding were both delicious. Our server was very good - attentive with good direction on menu choices - and the host came to greet us at our table over dessert. In February, it is clearly too cold for outdoor dining, but the patio looks lovely, and we are already looking forward to going back in the spring to enjoy their traditional Irish specialties al fresco."
