MarketBar
MarketBar is San Francisco's answer to Grand Central Station but on the water in the restored landmark Ferry Building. The casual menu offers many of the organic ingredients sold in the thrice-weekly farmer's market as well as the shops filling the interior of the building. Full Bar, creative wine list and seasonal market driven menu attracts a cross section of the city's diners to its handsome dining room, comfortable bar and spectacular outdoor sidewalk terrace.
**We do not take reservations for the patio. We seat only complete parties on a first come first serve basis.

"My mom, dad, myself, and 3 kids all went to Market Bar for Mother's Day Breakfast. We ended up sitting outside and people watching as we ate. I had the scrambled egg combo with bacon and potatoes and a side of fruit. My mother had the french toast which tasted amazing. My oldest daughter had the fish and chips which she loved and my dad had the pulled pork sandwich he was raving about long after. I have been to Market Bar many times for breakfast and lunch and I absolutely love it everytime because it is located on the Embarcadero, if you like to people watch, this is an awesome spot for outdoor dining and entertainment. If you have little ones, make sure to check ahead of time as there was only one high chair and I really needed 2."

"The food and the service were really very good. We enjoyed our meal and will go back when we are in San Francisco again. The rather small space and the hard wood floors make the indoor dining experience rather noisy, but we got used to it. We had hoped for a view of the newly lighted Bay Bridge while dining, but alas, the restaurant has no windows facing the bay."

"The overall experience was vibrant energy, good food and wonderful surroundings. The Ferry Building on a warm San Francisco night it the PLACE to be. At 8 pm the sun glowed rose and the Bay Bridge danced with it's light show out the window of the room where we ate summer salads of shrimp and avocado.

"We were seated at 7:00, did not see a waiter - even for a glass of water - for 15 minutes, and did not get our food for an hour and a half (and that was after I got up from the table, found the server, and asked for an update). Two of the meals were good - chicken and scallops - but the "prawn" Louie was pathetic. No prawns, just little shrimp that were tasteless and old. I would have sent it back, except we were all ready to leave anyway. The only redeeming feature ws a view of the lights on the Bay Bridge."

"I've always really liked this place for outdoor lunch on a nice day or delicious, convenient dinner. Good food, friendly people, great location. I recently discovered that they're open for breakfast now and it's my favorite breakfast place in the city. Simple menu but every single thing my party has ordered on two visits for breakfast was outstanding. The banana bread is incredibly good, the strawberry jam we got with our toast and eggs was awesome (more like strawberry french toast topping than jam with fresh strawberries). Don't miss the bacon. They have 3 kinds and they were all great."

"I have always like the Market Bar, but today I had the worst service I've experienced in years. The kitchen seemed to have forgotten our order. Finally, after almost an hour, my soup arrived, and it was not the soup I'd ordered. When I told the waiter, he blamed the kitchen, but didn't apologize or offer me an alternative. The soup was lukewarm, so I said I didn't want it. After waiting a long while longer, our entrees arrived...but oops, they were the wrong entrees. Finally, the correct food arrived and it was very good. I'm hoping this was a momentary blip, as I like the setting and the food. They need to find a more professional waiter for sure!"

"I ordered the famous chicken. It came with cauliflower which I do not like. I asked the waitress if I could have roasted potatoes (they were on the menu with several other dishes). She said "I'll have to see if the chef will do it." This seemed odd to me as roasted potatoes are usually a no-brainer and on the menu.
My meal came out with the cauliflower. My uncle's meal came with roasted potatoes. The waitress arrived and said "I'm sorry, he couldn't do it!" What? I asked why the chef couldn't do it because they are on the menu and the easiest thing ever. Her response "He wouldn't do it because he was too busy. Sorry!"
Awesome. My sister is a chef and confirmed that this was one of the more ludicrous things she's seen. Fail!"

"The scenic view is owed to people watching. The outdoor dining is on Embarcadero where lot's of folks walk to and fro exercising and touring the waterfront, walkers, joggers, skaters families and crazies. "The food was good, but the service was ABYSMAL. The waitress had lots of excuses, but clearly was inexperienced and not supervised at all. Supposedly the hold-up with the service was kitchen-related, but it was almost impossible to get her attention. I literally had to MANAGE HER all evening. "We felt the food was bland and overpriced. The happy hour wine selection was fine but the cocktails were watery. Our server was friendly but she kept hovering at the beginning, tried to take our menus multiple times when we had told her already that we were planning to order dinner so we'd like to hang on to them, took my wine away before it was empty, took the happy hour menus away before the end of happy hour, took a very long time to bring drinks, and then disappeared once it was time to pay. We were only there because of the restaurants proximity to the Bay Bridge for the Bay Lights opening night. Will not be dining there again."

"We're admitted foodies and were really looking forward to a light dinner after our flight in to SF. The restaurant ambiance and decor were wonderful; food not. The ceviche was chockful of hot peppers and the seafood seemed processed. While we adore spicy flavorful foods, this was just plain firey and the marinade tasteless. We both had the andouille sausage and shrimp gumbo which looked like a beautiful rich gumbo . . . tasteless. I make better gumbo myself, but then I do use fresh ingredients. This was made with "tired, worn-out" veggies and supermarket sausage. Most of our dining experiences at the newer, hip restaurants use many of the same descriptions in their menus . . . making for a round of disappointing dining experiences."

"You're really paying for the location here. The food is awful and over-priced. The brunch dish I got was deviled eggs and a side of sausage and I have never sent sausage back before, but did here. It was bland and the food in general was not anything special, nor well-made."

"I took my girlfriend for V-day, we had the v-day pre-fixed dinner which was delicious, the cioppino which was incredible all of the fish/seafood was cooked perfectly (warning: it is spicy) but i love spicy so i was very pleased. the vanilla blood orange ice-cream was fairly bitter but overall very nice meal. I marked the noise as energetic, we were their at night and their was a lot more noise then i expected on v-day but nothing too distracting but the later it got, the less noise their was. The outside seating was heated and looked beautiful but it was a chilly night so we decided to sit inside."

"Had a business lunch with some clients and it was good. My only complaint was the size of my tuna nicoise was a bit on the small size. I expected more of a hearty salad with a nice piece of fresh tuna. There wasn't much in the way of salad...just a few greens. Also the tuna, although a nice piece a fish, was not cut correctly, making it very difficult for me to cut and eat it, having to go across the grain."
