"Come here for local cuisine. The ahi tuna tartar is served on a cucumber slice topped with a slice of jalapeño. The pork tenderloin was excellent. We had a Copain chardonnay which was excellent. Wait staff were great!"

"While the food taste excellent, I was a little underwhelmed by the serving size for the price. The shrimp and grits included only three shrimp, while the duck breast entree was about a quarter of a duck breast. I expected a little more for what we paid."

"A very cool place, this was my third visit, once for a work meeting, once with my wife, and now with wife and her parents. An excellent menu, the blue plate special is always good. The pimento cheese with pumpernickel is outstanding. This is a great place no matter the reason, from a business dinner of people in suits, or when I was there there were two women in yoga pants, the atmosphere can fit anything. The chef came over to the table to check on our meal. And I especially recommend Texas Tuesdays, with 50% off Texas wine, and cheap Texas draughts and vodka drinks."

"Great lunch sitting at the Chef's table. Service was certainly efficient but not friendly at all which is unusual compared to past visits. It was a busy Friday lunch hour so maybe that was the issue."

"This was my first dinner experience, although I have been to Rathbuns' for lunch several times. We were met at the door and seated immediately. The atomosphere was lively and modern yet cozy. Our server was friendly and knowledgable. Drink orders were promptly taken and delivered. There was a little trouble getting a glass of wine ordered. The appetizers were superb. Taste and presentation was four star. I choose one of the entre specials, grilled halibut. It was solid and tasty. My companion had the interesting duck and scallop combo. The scallops were as promised, large quality scallops perfectly cooked. The duck good. Rathbuns is on my return list. Innovative and delicious, lunch or dinner."

"They were out of the specials, the wine we selected, and took forever to get the wrong order to our table. Maybe Saturday night at 8 is a difficult time for them. The staff was nice, but they didn't seem to get much support from the kitchen."

"My wife and I stopped by here for an early dinner (5:00 PM) before going to a Stars game. At that time the whole place was quite quiet, with probably 8 people at the bar and maybe 2 other tables. Our waitress (Angie) was attentive to every need. We had the hummus to start, which was delicious with lightly cripsed pitas, and the table breads with an excellent mandarin orange infused butter. I had the duck with scallops and pea risotto, and my wife had the pork belly with Israeli couscous. Both were excellent. Cooked properly, and served within 12 minutes or so. We split a creme brulee for desert, and it was one of the best I've ever tasted. Chef Rathbun even came by the table... a nice touch. We'd go back again."

"Outstanding food. Superior service. The sweet tea vodka drink was out of this world. Cauliflower soup was fantastic, the pork chop was huge. It is loud in the restaurant so if your the parent going out for a special occasion with a group it is perfect. Feels like down home southern cooking kicked up about 10. It is a little difficult to find but I would so go back."

"The food and service is always so good - and it looks so good too.
Best thing about having lunch at Blue Plate - you can have a conversation with the folks at your table. The acoustics make this a perfect working / business lunch or so sweet for just spending lunch time with someone special.
I can make reservations and know that all is well for lunch.
Thank you!"

"RATHBUN's Blue Plate Kitchen provided me & my Family with a brilliant dining experience! The cuisine was delicious, yielding an inspired, complex spectrum of flavors. The service was professional & attentive. From the Duck Confit Flatbread, to the Lobster/Shrimp/Crab Cole-Slaw, to the grilled Hawaiian Butterfish with Stir-Fried Veggies, to the savory Foie Gras bread pudding, to the hot Apple Pie with Henry's Cinnamon Ice Cream, we enjoyed a wonderful meal!"

"Food was okay and service could have been much better. Our plates sat on the table with not much checking back. Wine was not offered after our bottle was empty. Just not very attentive or intuitive. We go out with the same couple once a quarter and attempt to dine in a restaurant neither of us has been to. This was not an outstanding dining experience but I would recommend to others."

"Had a business lunch. My guests had fish and their meals were great. However, we got there at noon and several of the specials were already gone. I had ordered the pulled pork sandwich and was informed the pork was also gone. I substituted for the brisket. It was obviously from the tip end and was mostly fat. Ended up pulling the sandwich apart to cut out the meat. Have been long patron of Blue Plate and while still good, the quality of food just is not as good as it once was."

"Amazing dinner for two. We had our usual fried chicken and the blue plate (it was shrimp) and both were delicious. Wine recommended by waiter was spot on and not the most expensive by the glass.
Blue plate special sold out by 7:40 the Friday we ate there."

"Services was very quick and server was responsive. I had the BBQ Monday special. The brisket and pulled pork was good, but the turkey was dry and the fries were cold. My salad was excellent. Also glad valet parking was available, self parking during lunch in the local garage is a joke during lunch."

"My girlfriend and I dined here on a Saturday night - she had the grilled fish and it was fantastic. I had the filet Oscar and the steak was extremely undercooked - I ordered medium rare and got rare - cold red center. The ambiance is great in this place and I would definitely recommend it for having a very friendly staff."

"Since this restaurant is well out of our normal price range (we were given a gift card), we had high expectations and were looking forward to a special evening. Unfortunately, it turned out to be simply mediocre. After we were seated, no one came to our table for about 15 minutes, at which point a waitress from another section, who was wonderful, came to apologize and took care of us for the rest of the evening. Our drinks were great, as was our appetizer, but we noticed that other tables were given baskets of bread before their meal - ours arrived about halfway through our entree. Our entrees were both just okay - I had the fried chicken and my husband had the chicken fried "steak." Overall, it was just an okay experience."

"I hadn't been to the restaurant in a while. The food was ok - not wonderful. And, I remembered why I hadn't been - there isn't much healthy on the menu. And, the things that are don't sound too appetizing. However, the staff was wonderful - just enough checking on you and very friendly and helpful."

"Blue Plate has once again created the perfect evening. Dennis and his staff, combined with Chef Jenny's wonderful creations have crafted a wonderful experience. The wine list is always full of great finds and consistently bring new wines to our notice. An overall magnificent resturant that is sure to please."

"I took my parents there because I absolutely love this place. They were completely impressed. Not only is the food fantastic, but the people (from the GM to the bartenders to the wait staff to the chef who came by the table to meet the folks) are awesome. Thank you for an always-amazing evening!"

"Service was great, but overall, the food was not remotely worth the price. I've eaten all over this city, Nick and Sam's, the French Room, Local, Lucia, Al Biernat's, Fearing's... and if I'm going to drop $150 on a meal, it better be worth it. This, quite simply, wasn't. The menu was disjointed, the flavors on the duck confit flatbread had no business going together, and the chicken fried shortbread was tough (if they wanted to do it right, they'd sous vide it, them flash fry it). They did cook my wife's bass, the fish special of the day, quite well, bit overall it just simply didn't measure up to what I would expect from a restaurant attached to Mr. Rathburn's name."
