CHAYA Downtown, the newest member of the CHAYA family of restaurants, is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, combining urban chic and European sensibility with Japanese hospitality. The menu plays off its French Japanese culinary tradition as it takes diner on an epicurean journey.
The modern, chic ambiance sets the mood as diners enter the lively bar and lounge. The spacious dining room is lined with intimate booths that open to the outdoor patio surrounded by lush landscaping. The garden patio is available for bar seating and full dining. A 12-seat sushi bar features a full view of CHAYA sushi chefs at work.
CHAYA Downtown offers convenient lunch menu options Monday through Friday for professionals looking to grab a quick bite. Guests can enjoy dinner seven nights a week. "The annual Mother's Day Brunch quest came around and I flashed on the idea of trying out Chaya downtown LA. We are familiar with Chaya Venice and Beverly Hills and so we knew to expect a sophisticated experience. The menu read especially well, the execution of the food was even better, it was excellent. The server was exactly present and attentive enough and the ambience was just right. Enough buzz to be interesting but not at the expense of an atmosphere that was conducive to a pleasant normal speaking voice conversation. We sat outside on the patio and were able to enjoy the outdoors without cars, cold or otherwise encroaching. At $40 each before wine, it was an outstanding deal and an outstanding experience. We look forward to returning."

"We love Chaya Downtown as a place to meet and dine before the Opera, Disney Hall or the Chandler Pavilion theaters.Sometimes we sit at the bar or lounge and enjoy the happy hour menu and cocktails. Other times we sit in the restaurant and enjoy theexceptional and delicious menu items. The service is friendly and attentive. It is a real plus to have the shuttle service available at the curb and we are happy that Chaya continues to provide that service as so many other downtown restaurants have discontinued the shuttle."

"The server offered us several options without mentioning they would cost more (the olive tapenade - most restaurants just bring it if you want it). Service got really slow when we needed to get going - opera. On top of the rush there was an additional entree on our bill - an error - that had to be corrected. How could an additional entree get added to our bill? Somebody had to push a key and hope we didn't notice, tip on the full amount and Chaya makes more money. I will never go back. I did enjoy the food, it was excellent. Kudos to the chefs, shame on staff and manager. Be careful if you go there...check your bill!"

"When I order salad, I always request "dressing on the side". This restaurant fails to provide this simple request, once in a while (maybe 1 of 3 times). Moreover, I can not complain as the assigned server who took my order doesn't bring the food. I do not have much time as my lunch time is limited. Well, I keep coming here anyway, as my office is nearby. Their food is good. But their service is not good. However, I always tip enough."

"The food and service were equally matched: terrible. The waiter couldn't answer straightforward questions about the menu, made a token inquiry about our satisfaction late in the meal, and tossed the check on the table before the table was cleared. Are restaurants so disparate they will hire such incompetence? Perhaps chefs (I use the word loosely) should be licensed to prepare certain dishes such as paella. At Chaya Downtown the paella was masquerading as a gloppy rice soup made with oyster sauce (?). Saffron was nowhere to be found."

One of the best dinners I can ever remember having! Wagyu beef Carpaccio - amazing, a must-try; assorted sashimi - melt in your mouth; Special fish in parchment paper - delicious; Pappardelle with kobe beef-porcini mushroom bolognese - another must-try dish, my date and I fought over the last few bites it was so good. overall - I can't wait to go back."

"There's a lot of variety in their menu, but let's face it... you go for the sushi...! the variety of traditional mixed with some innovative preparations makes for a great food adventure.
Service was great, the staff are attentive without hovering, knowledgable on hte menue and able to make great recommendations. Overall a great experience."

"We visit Chaya often for lunch - particularly, to celebrate birthdays or any other special events. It was not so special this time. Our food is always good but we were hard pressed to find our server! And birthdays, apparently, are not celebrated at Chaya's. I'm not sure Chaya is our "go to" place anymore!"

"My wife and I made reservations at Chaya for Valentine's Day. Although I had eaten at Chaya before, this visit was my wife's first time. Chaya had a pre-fixe menu for Valentine's day, which included appetizer, entree and a shared dessert plate. Surprisingly the pre-fixe menu had a number of selections. I can't remember what I ordered for appetizer, but my wife had the tartar, which was excellent. For entrees I had the moroccan lamb chops and my wife had the miso sea bass. I thoroughly enjoyed my food. Unfortunately, my wife thought the sea bass was not cooked to her liking. She thought it had good flavor, but it was not broiled to the crispness she enjoys. Overall the food was good even at a premium price."
