Enjoy waterfront dining at its finest at the NEW Back Bay Bistro, located at the entrance of the Back Bay in Newport Beach California. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner on this elegantly designed patio in a casual, friendly atmosphere. "We arrived 15 minute BEFORE our reservation and the Maitre d' said "You are late for your reservation. We can get you seated, but there's a wait." I immediately corrected her about our reservation time and even showed her the reservation confirmation email on my cell phone. Not only did she not apologize, but she simply repeated "our computer had your reservation 30 minutes ago".
This has also caused Opentable to issue an "No Show" email to me and I had to actually send them a copy of the restaurant receipt to prove that I dined there. For this inconvenience caused by the restaurant, I think I deserve an apology from them.
We sat on the patio next to the water which was nice initially until they put a party of 4 loud ladies next to us.."

"I was looking for a place to take my mom out for a Saturday Mothers Day since I would be out of town on Mothers Day. A Co-worker suggested Back Bay Bistro so I made reservations hoping it would be perfect for her. It was outstanding everything!! From the time we pulled up to Valet to leaving......everthing was perfect!
Thank you Back Bay for making my mom's Mothers Day perfect!!"

"Treated my Mom and my sister to early Mother's Day dinner here and it fit the bill for a nice evening out. We booked a table for 5 people at 5:30p, and it was still sunny and pretty out - a perfect setting with the glass windows. The crab cakes, though small, were the best I've had in a while - very fresh-tasting, and not greasy nor salty. The Diver Scallops were meaty, sweet and plentiful on the plate. The kids' menu offered good cuts of fish. Now, my nits: Our waitress didn't seem to know what she was doing. She left me holding all of our menus after she took our order, and she brought us a wine list that was completely outdated in regards to the wines by the bottle. Overall, the prices here are too high for the actual quality you get."

"There were no tables outside and it was quite noisy inside. The service was OK but the food was not spectacular. We were expecting seafood - ravioli with lobster is NOT the catch of the day! The closest we got to fish was a tuna melt and fried fish and chips."

"Three friends and I did the Sunday brunch, which includes unlimited bubbly. We had a wonderful time! The variety of the lunch is great (waffles, French toast, shrimp, crab, prime rib, fruit, cake, etc). We were having such a good time, we transitioned to the bar area for cocktails. It was a really nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon."

"We had dinner there couple times in the past year. Food quality seems getting bad each time. I had the Hawaii flank steak. It was too dry and the bbq sauce was too sweet. The seafood pot pie was too salty. This could be my last time eating there."

"Horrible atmosphere and the food was not very good. I had Lamb Chops, 3 ea and ea one was cooked at a different doneness, then they just put a hunk by itselve on the plate. The wine list had all chardoney's that were all of one type - fruity and cheap."

"My wife and I went here for lunch while visiting Newport Beach. It had a great view. The fish tacos were excellent and our waiter was very attentive. It was a little chilly, but on a warm day sitting outside would be great. The only negative thing I can say is that it was a bit hard to find but all you have to do is drive to the far back parking lot by the water."

"Sunday brunch with friends was fun at this spot. A decent selection of buffet items to please a crowd. Unlimited champagne of course is quite nice. The ceiling lets a lot of natural light in--just FYI. I wore my sunglasses while I ate."

"I wasn't excited when I was forced to order the buffet. I have had the gastric bypass and it is literally impossible for me to eat $32 worth of food. So I feel very ripped off. Water glass had lipstick on it that was not mine, muffin was so dry I could use it as a baseball and the sausage link I tried to eat was burnt and tough."

"It seemed like a perfect setting and the menu looked good on their website. But it was difficult to find. The view is nice. But the food was bland and boring. Actually the worst meal I've ever had in a Newport Beach restaraunt I hope they improve. It's right on the bay and has the potential to be a real hot spot."

"A fabulous array of delicious food in so many different categories for the Easter brunch. Very attentive servers...and really DID seem to be endlessly pouring the champagne. Our server, Trevor, was especially wonderful in making sure the Easter Bunny didn't miss our table. Lovely to dock the boat and sit outside for Brunch along the water. This is our second consecutive Easter Brunch at the Back Bay...both years were perfect!"

"We came here for the first time for Easter brunch. Complimentary valet was great. Very interesting location and scenic. The service was excellent because our waiter was on top of it and kept filling our glasses with mermosa. However for $58 bucks, the variety of food was lacking. I read a review recently that their spead of food has decreased. No kidding! For that much money it wasn't worth it. And on top of that an 18% gratuity was aded to our bill automatically. I did not like that for a serve-it-yourself buffet. The mermosa was not worth that for cheap champagne and orange juice. I guess you're paying for the location. For me I rather go to a place for good food and good prices."

"We went ot back Bay Bistro for Easter brunch and had a wonderful time. The restaraunt is very open and airy with beautiful views of the bay. The buffet was excellent and included smoked salmon, made to order omelets, oysters and all your breakfast/brunch favorites! The service was top notch and it could not have been better. This was our first time to the Back Bay Bistro and I would highly recommend it to my friends and family."

"I attended a wine dinner w/Chef Kurt Schaeffer & Sommelier Joey Kleinhans. Of the 9 wines served, I was only underwealmed by one domestic Zin; The rest were outstanding, Especially the Chateau Petitie Bocq and the Sangiovese. The food was excellent: The reduction sauce (served over lamb,) micro greens garnish and artichoke gratin were lovely. The mushroom bisque and the poached scallop with lemon cream sauce were so very delectible. I liked the cheese cake, but could hardly take more than a bite or two after the richness of the meal & would have preferred something lighter. The sauternes served with it was delicious."

"Our 24 year old daughter loves it. Her boyfriend took her to Sunday Brunch here and she fell in love with it. We had dined here before, but never for Brunch. When we asked what she wanted to do for her birthday, this is where she wanted to go and take some friends. So, my husband and I took my 92 year old mother, our daughter and some of her friends for Sunday brunch for her 24th birthday. EVERYTHING was delicious as usual. We definitely be making it a habit! The food is so fresh and tasty and who doesn't enjoy free flowing champagne...not to mention the beautiful view...=)"

"I liked the restaurant and it's location. The food was great, but the crab cakes were just horrible. The lighting on the outside for evening dinning was almost nonexistant, and the lacked warmers. The silverware was in far worse condition and in quality that Olive Garden. The fillet mignon was outstanding. This wanna be tamale that accompanied my fillet was just a crime to put it in the same plate as the fillet mignon. The server was outstanding and the supporting staff as well."

"We came here for an early dinner before watching Wicked the Musical. This restaurant offers a beautiful view of Back Bay. The service was great. Our dinner came out promptly. The dinner rolls had a hint of bacon flavoring. The Ravioli with shrimp in a lobster cream sauce was delicious! The Hawaiian Teriyaki Flank Steak was good, but a bit too salty. We ordered the Southwest Lettuce Wraps as an appetizer, but unfortuntely, they were mistakenly given to the wrong customer. Our server was quick to take it off our bill, and gave us complementary dessert (dolce cheesecake...very rich) to make up for it. Great experience. Will be back when we are in the area."

"I have frequent Back Bay Bistro's Brunch over the last year approximately 4 times, and I must say that this last visit (2/17) was my worse experience. I'm particularly a fan of the french toast; however around 12:30 (brunch is not over until 2 p.m.)the french toast was a bit cold which may have been due to the chaffin dish light going out, but it appeared as if it was a big deal to get an approval to get some fresh warm french toast out. Also we are really fond of the clam chowder...this appeared to have been replaced a Lobster Bisque that was a bit warm and not too tasty. We are still a big fan of the ambiance and the waiter service is always Great! I would recommend Back Bay to a friend and plan on returning."

"Excellent service and great ambiance. The menu is very impressive and makes it hard to decide. The food was very good and not pretentious. A few minor quibbles: the raspberry vinaigrette tasted exactly as if it came from a bottle and diminished the quality of an otherwise excellent mixed greens salad, and the wonderful bread pudding with its milk chocolate sauce and just the right amount of cinnamon was knocked down a peg by fake whipped cream."

"The evening was for my partner's Birthday, so the "special occasion" applause is appropriate. That evening too, the Rod Stewart tribute band, "Atlantic Crossing", was playing.....they were great for the enthusiastic dancing of many guests, but, while enjoyable, this did tend to dominate the evening (no complaints there!) but kinda distracted from the Restaurant's gourmet dining venue status! Obviously, ya can't have both! The food was "very bistro" style, plenty of it and tasty without being remarkable as a dining experience. The waitperson service was very attentive .... excellent for a Birthday evening....we enjoyed it!"

"Went for Sunday brunch with some friends and was very pleasantly surprised. The buffet was very tastful. Not a huge selection, however, all dishes were excellent. Good breakfast selections including eggs benedict and an omelet bar. Carved roast beef was of good quality. The only thing they were a lacking was a large selection of desserts. Not critical in the scheme of things!"
