Nizza is a casual Italian restaurant located in the heart of Hell's Kitchen. Chef Andy D'Amico uses the cuisine of the Italian Riviera as a starting point for his exploration of Italy. Our house speciality is our "Socca." Socca is a chick pea crepe baked in our brick oven, traditional to the French city of Nice. Our menu has a wonderful selection of antipasti, salads, soups, pizza, pasta and entrees. We were higlighted in 2008 "Cheap Eats" issues by Time Out New York and New York Magazine. As well as Time Out New York's Top 100 food items of 2008.
"We had reservations and were seated right away, although it took about 10 minutes for the waitress to ask for our drink order. It took another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive. The buzz was good although tables were very tight. The food however was most disappointing. The chicken saltimboca dish I ordered was very bland, tasting like boiled chicken. I didn't finish it. My wife had a veal ravioli dish which was much better. The waitress never came by to ask how the meal was going.
We're definitely not returning."

"Went for a quick dinner. Service was welcoming and very friendly. Food was just OK. My Bibb salad was boring and lacked salt and pepper. The veal Pansotti were undercooked and flavorless. Everything needed salt. That's it. I'll go back because it's close. I'd love to recommend places to go to learn how to serve pasta but I can't mention names of other restaurants."

"Wealloyed Nizza. Rrunning late, called & they were ever so nice. Wine displayed all over& even a wine of the day. 2 shared baby artichoke app - exxcellent. Braseola app- excellent. Salmon entree over Artichoke Puree w/Spring Pea - excellent. Raviolientree - ffed w/Veal- excellent. Gnocci- excellent. Chicken in a sauce- excellent. Cold Zabaglione w/fresh fruit- very good....but nothing like Zabaglione. Crepe w/Chocolate Sauce (Nutella?) - very good. Noise level is beyond belief in a bad way. Might like to go back when it isn't exactly dinner or lunch time to see if we can hear each other (and the waitress). One gathering to our left was obnoxiously loud. Fook was wonderful and the personnel was terrific."

"Nizza was recommended to us by some locals and it did not disappoint. The food was wonderful and not the typical Italian flair. In addition the Peach Bellini Martini quickly became my new favorite summer beverage. The most difficult part was choosing what to have for dinner because everything looked wonderful and wanted to try it all. I guess I'll have to make several more trips back to NY and include Nizza on the itinerary!"

"Awful service from the hostess. The waitress was good and pretty attentive but I think the food was just so-so. There are way better Italian options in that area so I would not bother going to Nizza again."

"My GF is gluten in tolerate and I was worried about not being able to find something delicious and in our price range but Nizza was incredible. Large entree portions and a full GF menu to chose from and our service was impeccable. I would definitely recommend Nizza for an affordable and delicious night out!"

We had a horrible dining experience at Nizza Saturday evening and will never be back!!!
The restaurant was nearly empty and I asked if we could move to a table against the wall and was the hostess told me (with attitude) that she was expecting a six top and this was not possible.
I asked if we could be seated at another table away from the aisle and she said (again with attitude!!) we had one hour to eat dinner.
I happened to glance across the restaurant minutes later and another two people were seated at the table we requested originally. ???
I will say, our waitress was a gem!!!
Thankfully there are lots of other restaurant choices in HK and we will not be back!!!"

"We enjoyed our meal but not as much as the last time when we both had the tuna. I had the veal raviola which was delicious but my friend who is gluten-free did not like the salmon as well as she liked the tuna and she thought the gluten-free bread was too oily this time."

"Stopped by on our way to a show. Our server was really good, explaining and recommending what to select and avoid at this 9th Avenue eatery. She took our order without writing anything, then went to another table and took their order, also without writing anything down. Food was out in a reasonable time and the order was perfect. This is a lively spot with decent food. I would probably return, if I was in the neighborhood."

"This was our third visit, the first time we were there for brunch. (Excellent Eggs Benedict). Haven't been disappointed yet. Friendly service, delicious food, great location for pre-theater. Be sure to order the socca to share before your entrees. So good that after I had it for the first time, I went online to find the recipe for it - it's a crispy pancake/crepe made of chickpea flour and it originated as street vendor food in Nice. Should also mention that Nizza has one of the most extensive gluten free menus you will find anywhere - not a concern for me, but a coworker has celiac disease and can't wait to try the restaurant next time she goes to the theater."

"Nizza is one of those unpretentious Trattorias that we New Yorkers long with great ambiance, great service, great food but is not expensive. I had this incredible tuna that was truly fabulous, prepared rare-just the way I had requested. And on a sunny evening like last Friday, the outside tables were buzzing with life. What a great pre-theater restaurant."

"I've been to Nizza a few times pre-theater and love it's gluten-free menu and friendly staff. This visit, however, was so loud my companion and I gave up attempting to talk, ate rapidly and left without dessert or a final drink. We ended up with a full hour before the show we were attending because the meal took 30 minutes less than planned.
I suspect it was a combination of forces: a couple of loud parties, open walls to the street and a full house, but I will think twice before going back."

"A great spot to eat before the theatre. Walking distance to many theatres. Excellent Italian food for a very reasonable price. Very busy, tables are very close to one another and could be noisy. A vibrant, lively atmosphere. Server was very warm, personal and attentive. Although, food was a bit slow coming out. Server made sure we were on time for our show."

"We picked this restaurant because it offered gluten free food for our daughter and was close to the Times Square Marriott where we stayed. Wow! What a find! Food was wonderful, service attentive and very friendly and polite. My daughter was thrilled with her meal especially the gluten free bread. This will definately be on our agenda during our next NYC trip and we highly recommend!"

"My waitress was wonderful but the management was abysmal! We had a 6:30pm reservation and were not seated until 7:10pm and the management knew and did NOTHING to rectify the situation and had a bad attitude! We repeatedly notified the hostess that we had theater tickets. I was shocked as I frequent this restaurant and usually the service is stellar. The hostess was trying to be accommodating by taking our order ahead of time so that that could fire it as soon as we sat. It was very stressful and my poor friend was in from out of town trying to have a relaxing night after an intense day of work. I was embarrassed by my choice of restaurant this night. The food is always very good but I am going to think twice before returning."

"We had reservations for 12:45 Sunday afternoon and because we arrived into the city much earlier than we anticipated we decided to try Nizza early to see if we could eat early. We were over an hour early! They were very gracious and seated us and we had a very lovely brunch, served by a lovely waitress. The food was very good, no complaints at all - and some of the food we saw going past us looked wonderful as well. I had a brunch cocktail that was great - if I wasn't going to a show I would have had more! I would definitely go back there and recommend it as a very nice place to eat. We were glad we ended up seating early as the place is obviously very popular and was packed as we were leaving."

"The food at Nizza was good- but nothing exceptionally notable. The Wild Boar Lasagne did not have much meat in it and you could not tell that there was anything different than regular lasagne. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. One additional favorable note is that Nizza has a gluten free menu. Of course this is only of interest to those of us who are gluten free. Now for the negative: the interior decor could use some sprucing up. The table and chairs look very worn and dingy- not attractive or stylish at all. Overall although the food was somewhat tasty, this would not be a restaurant that I would recommend to friends as a great place to dine."

"We visited Nizza for dinner after a show. We had a cozy table for 5 in the corner which was great. Despite having a table in the corner, our server never forgot about us and made us feel comfortable and welcome. Her food recommendations were spot on. Portions were adequate and the food was delicious. The espresso parfait was amazing! Overall, a great dinner and we'll definitely return."

"Always has delicious food at incredibly reasonable prices, and the friendliest service. Nizza never disappoints. It may be a bit too noisy for long, leisurely dining, but it is our favorite pre-theater spot. . . Also love it for brunch (the socca pancake with eggs? Who could ask for anything more!)."

"Food was excellent! Service was excellent! We went to Nizza because of their gluten-free menu but all of us enjoyed our meals, GF or not. Had a little problem hearing over the noise in the restaurant, but it wasn't deafening. Would highly recommend. I wrote a small note in my OpenTable reservation regarding one of our party with celiac and the staff was appropriately attentive to her needs without making a spectacle. All of us rated the restaurant "Outstanding"!"
