The Blue Room
The Blue Room is simple casual comfort. Housed in a renovated woven hose factory, this nationally acclaimed restaurant is composed of bare wood beams, brick and granite walls, cozy suede banquettes, soft lighting and zinc-topped tables. Chef Robert Grant puts his wood-burning grill to work creating dishes with influences from his time spent cooking his way through Italy, Spain and France using locally-sourced ingredients and techniques gleaned from his stints with renowned chefs Thomas Keller + Barbara Lynch. Along with the lively atmosphere comes an interesting, eclectic and affordable wine list. Stop in on Sunday nights for "Retail Wine" night, where 50 or so wines are offered at retail prices. Good & Friendly.

"Portions too small...Not a good value..
In the winter, we had the beet salad which landed up being tiny pieces of different varieties of beet artistically arranged on a big plate. It was laughable. Truly there were 2-3 mouth fulls only.. Too little for the high price..
Same happened on yesterday's visit... The desert cheese of the day was a very small piece and 4 thin slices for very hard, toasted bread... Not worth the price.. Not a good value..
Truly disappointed. I liked the menus and quantities better with the old chef..
Place too noisy. Our server spoke very load probably because she had to talk over the high noise level.
Too bad that there are not more decent places to frequent in the area..."

"I took my mother to The Blue Room on Mother's Day and we had a fabulous time! Can't believe I had never been here before. You can't beat the wine sold at retail price on Sunday. I will definitely be back!"

"Given the price of the entrees, the food overall was ok not great. I had great expectations for the Blue Room based on friends experience and reviews. The ambience of the place was typical. Our seating was not ideal, a bit cramped to enjoy a nice meal and the table was too small for the huge entree dishes. The lamb was tough, pork was tender but fatty, and the mussle was too salty. The service was extemely slow on a not so busy night. Our waiter lacked the enthusiasm and was a bit apathatic. The waiter forgot on two occasions to place our cocktail orders, waited 15 minutes each time. The saving grace of our dining experience was the unique cocktail menu, only if it was ordered in a timely manner. Definitely not a homerun...."

"I have been to this restaurant in the past and found that the good was not as good as it used to be. the cut of the lamb which was served to us had too many tendons, making it difficult to cut. and it did not look nice either. the soup was original but there was something missing... the service was good and attentive. noise, as always was very energetic after 6:30 om"

"Service was lovely, food not so much. The new menu lacks the complexity and strong flavor s that I associate with the old Blue Room. No more large assortment of spicy small plates. Main courses are well prepared, but what someone else might call subtle, I call bland. Our waiter was wonderful and attentive, but I would not rush back."

"My husband and I met my sister and brother in law for dinner an a Saturday evening at 7:30. The restaurant was just filling up at that time. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. She explained the menu to all of us quite eloquently. The meal started off with Meg's sunshine goat cheese with some very memorable chutney. Then we were treated to some smoked treats compliments if the kitchen. For my entree I enjoyed the mussels. A large bowl steaming with broth and some wonderful toast on top. Other meals at the table were the , halibut, skirt steak and duck. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The ambience is "vermonty" with stone walls and firewood stacked up out front. All in all a wonderful dining experience."

"We had an early reservation because we were going to a show. The server did ask about plans, but we let him know we weren't in a hurry. Our appetizers came out within 3 minutes of ordering them. At that point we asked the server to slow down and he obliged. Our server also recommended an excellent bottle of wine with the meal. My companion had the pork which was well prepared and well cooked. I ordered the duck which was recommended medium rare. A little too rare for me; my fault. It was sort of fatty and chewy- as duck can be. We did feel that by the end of the meal they just wanted us out to turn the table; the dinner crowd was starting to pick up. We didn't have dessert. Good, not great."

"I've been to the blue room a couple times before and loved it, but this time the food was sub par. Two of the three main dishes we ordered were mediocre- we couldn't finish them. Don't know if the food has gone down hill or they were just having an off night, but I probably won't go back again."

"We dined at The Blue Room this weekend with great anticipation, as we had the Chef's food multiple times at a previous location, when he worked at another restaurant. Knowing his talent, the food didn't disappointment, and was generally excellent. The main issue with the evening was the service, with our experience not meeting expectations on any level. We rejected the first table they attempted to seat us at, to be given an adequate on, but were saddled with an inept server which dinner a chore. We struggled with drink orders, getting wine glasses, getting additional bottles of wine, generally with everything. And he forgot parts of orders as well, making us thankful to be able to leave after spending more than $500."

"Our first brunch at The Blue Room - a bustling Easter Sunday but a great time. The food was excellent and quite different from the average brunch - homemade sausage was sublime. As always, the service was top-notch and the overall feeling was like having visiting a friends home. Cant wait to return!"

"We have eaten at The Blue Room many times over the years and had great experiences. Our experience this past Saturday was extremely dissapointing. It took at least 5 minutess before one of the waitstaff noticed us at the front door to check us in for our reservation. Our waiter was "filing" in and was not as attentive as we have been used to. The appetizers and salads were good, however, 3 out of the 4 meals were sent back to be cooked a bit longer. My husband's meal was so undercooked that he reordered something different. Even his second meal was not up to standard with the beef being very chewy.
This used to be one of our favorite places to go. Despite the great location and ambiance, I would hesitate to come back any time soon"

"The Rhinestone cowboy (the top recommendation from our waiter) arrived full of fat, gristle, and lacked either a salty crust, or that other critical factor - warmth. A medium rare steak shouldn't arrive already cold, but it did. So did all of the other entrees. Our waiter was nice, but we couldn't understand how this place had such good reviews when it was mediocre at best. "We're going to share a salad" used to mean the chef here would plate two half-portion salads and send them out. No more. Plastic chairs - yeah, not very classy, but we can live with it.
And why is it called Mediterranean? Since when did pasta and gristled (moderately cold) steak trump their previously excellent grilled octopus?
I just can't recommend Blue Roo"

"We dined at The Blue Room at the end of restaurant week, and all four of us ordered off the restaurant week menu. There were plenty of choices--at least a half dozen each of appetizers, main courses, and desserts. I enjoyed the cheese appetizer, the pork main course, and the sundae for dessert. Service was friendly and attentive. This was our second visit to the restaurant in a year. Both times everyone was very happy with the meal and the atmosphere; we expect we'll be going back again soon."

"The ambiance was excellent- lovely restaurant. The setting is great for a date.
Foodwise--my steak was excellent. The pasta and duck was just ok- I wish it had been better seasoned. My chocolate cake tasted like a dessert I could have bought at the corner store. I expected a warm, sumptuous cake but it was dry and cold.
The service was lacking. Our group sat for a while without anyone coming to check on us- finally we had to signal to someone to get us a waiter. Our waiter often forgot some of our orders. We had to remind him about our drink order, our request for more bread, etc. He looked like he didn't really want to be there.
I probably wouldn't dine at this restaurant again. With the price tag- I expected better food and serv"

"Even when I don't know exactly what all of the items in the menu description are, it doesn't matter -- the food was consistently amazing and delicious. I'm still learning to be an adventurous eater, but I trusted The Blue Room to make wonderful food that I would enjoy. All of the waitstaff went beyond our expectations, as well. Highly recommended!"

"We had some great food in our group. Especially noteworthy was the whole roast chicken for two. Sunday wine at retail pricing was a great deal and we enjoyed the wine greatly. Sadly, the service was often grindingly slow and our server disappeared for long periods of time. Entrees were also slow in coming - whether the kitchen was backed up or the server was slow in getting the orders in is not clear.
We had better experiences in prior visits, but there are to many great choices for food in the area to recommend Blue Room or to make plans to return anytime soon. I'm generally a patient person and prefer to linger a bit, than to be rushed - this is the first time in years I've been nearly this annoyed over slow service."

"This was my first visit for several years (used to be a regular). Still excellent food but glacially slow. 20+ minutes for a cocktail; an hour(+) for appetizers; almost 2 1/2 hours total meal time. They were busy for a Monday but it's hard to see why that should lead to a series of systemic breakdowns. (Our coffee and dessert were comped - they understood that there had been problems.) It's a tribute to the wait-staff (and the food quality) that we left happy and will probably return."
