"not a lot of great choices in this neighborhood, but this one is probably better than most of them. I took some out of town relatives because it was close to their hotel. probably better for drinks and snacks rather than dinner. noise level compounded by a wide screen tv over the bar w/the baseball game on behind us. the corn and crab chowder was VERY good--I recommend it wholeheartedly. my dad got the crab "roll": a big hunk of crab w/tarragon mayo on a french roll, which was huge and excellent, w/very good garlic fries. I wouldn't go back unless I wanted a very informal lunch place because the noise level made conversation impossible, but I would get the chowder & crab roll for a picnic or takeout again, no question."

"No problem seating us an hour early. We booked here because we had a $50 gift certificate. We ordered cioppino and the panko tilapia. The tilapia was generous...the center was not as crispy as the outside, probably due to size of the fish. Left over cioppino was great for Sunday brunch! My friend appreciated the full bar. I would have preferred a quieter, more intimate venue. Overall, we were pleased with the service and food."

"We found this restaurant near our hotel in the busy fisherman's wharf area. This restaurant worked well for our family of five. We were seated right away. The clam chowder and both the chilled and hot seafood platters were excellent. Prices were moderate for the area and the service was fine."

"Blue Mermaid is about what you'd expect from an average hotel restaurant. Nothing was outstanding, but if you want a relatively quick decent meal then it's the place to go. We were looking for a light dinner & had a handful of choices here. As does almost every restaurant in San Francisco they claim to have award winning chowder. It was below average in comparison to others had during our trip. Redeeming quality was drinks were strong & delivered quickly!"

"We had the chowder sampler and a crab roll with garlic fries. It was wonderful. The sampler is a must! It gives you the opportunity to try three different chowders....a great idea! The waiter was very attentive and helpful. Would definitely recommend The Blue Mermaid."

"There didn't seem to be any dishes that jumped out at me. Everything seemed so unremarkable. Nothing intriguing, as the name of the restaurant might indicate. And oh so expensive for mediocrity. Also, I think my wife said her salmon was frozen. Frozen? This is a seafood place!
Everything else seemed fine. Great service. Nice selection of wine and beer. Cool, casual atmosphere."

"This restaurant has been a favorite of ours since it opened. The chowder is always great, but other things are slipping. The popcorn shrimp was not cooked properly so it was oily and not crispy, usually it's a signature dish. A garnish of tomato was paper thin almost translucent - seemed more like Subway than a quality casual restaurant. Up charge of $12 for crab on salad seemed fair but the shredded crab meat was so fine we could not even get a bite out of it and the portion was skimpy. The bread pudding also usually a stand out was served cold and rock hard -- not what we are used to at this restaurant."
