Since opening in 1998 Lucques has garnered extraordinary accolades and is now recognized as one of the country’s best restaurants. It's California cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences is served in the warm and intimate setting of the rustic carriage house of the original Harold Lloyd estate.
One of the reasons for the all the acclaim is the Sunday Supper, the night that best exemplifies the original mission of owners Chef Suzanne Goin and Sommelier Caroline Styne, by offering seasonal prix fix menus that re-create the atmosphere of a relaxed family dinner.
"I have to say that I was surprised at how dry my Halibut was. the piece of the end piece and was thin and very dry. I told the waiter Luis, and he said "oh". I did not want to send it back because I was hungry and did not want to wait another half hour. and the salad with the cherries was tiny. the portion was so small, I thought it was absurd.
this was my third time to Lucuqes and I will not return after this. I am such a fan of good restaurants, and I was sadly surprised on Mother's day.

"Everything looked perfect: patio dining, beautiful table setting, attentive service.. all of it., until we looked at the menu. 3 to 4 in each category: appetizers, salads, main course and even dessert. I brought my mother and my aunt for a special meal. My aunt and I had to settle for a hamburger"

"Intrigued by her cookbook, Sunday Suppers, I was wanted to taste the food from the chef's hands. A delight! Susanne works with lovely, surprising textures and multiple layers of flavor. It was so fun. Ambience was comfortable and we were able to hear one another, actually have a Sunday Supper, a phenomena dear to my heart. To share it with friends where everyone at the table was happy was a real pleasure. A definite "Do Again" as we say at our house. I'm ready to tackle the cookbook,"

"I had high hopes for this place. The 3 course Sunday Supper meal had one really good dish, the salad. It was full of flavors, texture. The 2nd course, was fish and it simply didn't wow me. Not much dynamic to it. Nothing to write home about. The finale, the desert, hmmm. I am a HUGE fan of bread pudding and easily can devour the desert by myself. This go round, I took two bites and that was enough. Not worth the calories.
I am a fan of Suzanne Goin...maybe Cinco De Mayo was simply an off night?"

"I have been visiting Lucques for years, after being introduced by a friend. What an amazing find! The food is on the list of the best in LA. If you like short ribs..... do yourself a favor and visit! All of their food is wonderful, their staff are engaged, professional and gentle. They want to ensure you have a wonderful experience and they leave nothing to chance. Come early because they fill up and I suggest you make reservations! Whenever I have family or friends in town visiting, I bring them. All who come back to LA always ask if we can return!
Great place for a foodie night out, a group of friends who want magnificent food and ambience, and of course for a romantic date with someone very special."

"We had read many positive reviews and felt the menu offer a little different approach to the preparation. We were a party of seven peopke so there was a variety of dishes ordered. The best was the shorts ribs. The lamb received modest reaction and the sea bass was only a OK, The starters were good but the prices for a very small quantity was disappointing. The service was very good and the bar well stocked with a bartender knowledgeable and using scratch ingredients which create great mixed drinks. Overall our expectations were not met so we felt for the prices paid we didn't get our money's worth. A big disappointment from what we had expected."

"Shockingly poor food - I was there for a birthday lunch with a friend. Burger was good, fries were soggy greasy bad. Corned beef sandwich was just plain bad... after waiting 20 min to get it, the bread ( grilled panni style) and the rest of the sand was totally cold. Very meager portion of meat. Sent it back and got the same sandwich back with a bite out of the bread that had been placed in the oven for a few min so the bread was now slightly warm on the outside. The ambiance of the restaurant is great - I hope the food approaches it sometime"

"The best dining experience in many visits to Los Angeles. Our informed, professional and delightful server set the tone for a wonderful meal for our party of four.Truly fresh ingredients handled with restraint, imagination and real understanding of technique made for a memorable meal comparable to any we've had in Michelin starred restaurants. The garden setting was lovely."

"saddest lunch i've had in a while. the cornbeef sand on rye bread was an arrestable offense. the meat was SO fatty, there was barely any meat. it was the portion i'd cut off and throw away, and i mean that............... the other sandwich, a turkey club on cholla with fresh burrata. thestale bread was soaked in oily pesto.. impossible to eat without fork and lift. the turkey was fresh, give 'em that. tasteless sweet potatoe crisps. obviously, no real chefs in the kitchen.
maybe dinner might be better. maybe someone would be paying attention."

"They didn't have a Sauvigion Blanc on their list by the glass only chardonney which was rather surprising but four of us ordered different entrees and all happy. The ricotta dumplings for first course were excellent. Will return."

"I found the menue hard to read and the wine carte not user friendly. Having the pages turning from top to bottom instead of left to right did not help. Service was good but the food took an abnormally long time to come ( every course) The courses I selected were flavorful, but somewhat plain for this class of restaurant. (ie. A large slice of toasted bread with the asparagus) Excessive use of olive oil in general. There is definitely great research done and careful selection of ingredients in the desert menue even though I did not find anything of my taste."

"Initially seated in the patio with early evening reservation. The service and the food were outstanding. As the evening wore on and the patio filled the noise level was annoying. Overall the food is inventive the side dishes a gem but sit in the closed dining area if you want to converse normally with your dinner date. Pricey but worth it."

"We dined at Lucques on March 19 at 6:00, just two of us. First time. Smaller place, but nicely set up. Food was outstanding in both taste and portion. Very unique, delicious preparation/presentation. At that hour, it may be easier to park at one of the many nearby street parking meters ($2 for two hours) than to use the valet parking ($5.50). However, I don't know whether the meters get fully occupied for later times."

"Sparkling Water had floaters. When i told server - he wanted to know if it was in the glass vs. the water. He came back and said there were no floaters in the water decanter - this scenario went on for 2 or 3 minutes with him denying the floaters came from the bottle...servers should be taught - let me take care of that for you vs. debate where the floaters came from and waste my time away from the reason i was there dining with my friend.
asked for medium rare burger - it came out medium. the server and i had a discussion about medium rare and how i can order it rare if the burger was prepared closer to medium. the burger came back more well done. Waiter never came back after food was served."

"We've been to many of the upscale restaurants in LA, and this might have been the best over-all experience we've had. The food was superb, the setting was pleasing, and the wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We had friends from Boston with us, and they were very impressed with the high standards at Lucques. We highly recommend it to anyone who wants a five-star dining experience."

"The menu at this restaurant had many odd choices for appetizers and main courses and I found it difficult to find something to choose I actually found appealing. If you are dining with a party of two be advised the table spacing is very poor and you will be sitting right next to other diners who will overhear your conversation, I will not repeat."

"We visited Lucques on a friend's recommendation. We were celebrating our 2-year anniversary and it was a perfect, romantic spot to share dinner. The short ribs were delicious and my husband nearly licked his plate of fried polenta and squash completely clean. I will definitely be going back again and would recommend Lucques to friends."

"Cassoulet night is amazing. This was the 10th Annual Cassoulet Night and I cannot believe the place isn't mobbed every year. The service was outstanding and attentive, especially for a prix fixe menu evening. Great wine pairing for the dish and the price was not unreasonable. I can't wait for Cassoulet Night next year."

"We were all looking forward to eating at Lucques as Suzanne Goin has been high on our target list for chefs to experience. Sadly, we cereal very disapointed with our overall experience. The food was mediocre especially in regard to price, and the service terrible. The waiter (James) was slow to respond and mishandled several aspects of our order."

"This is a beautiful restaurant. Romantic, warm, and lively without being loud. The food is delicious and not overly complicated. The Sunday supper was yummy - just be warned that they don't do their regular menu on Sunday nights, just the supper menu (which was a salad, choice between two entrees and dessert for $45). Arrive a little early for a cocktail by the fire."
