"This was the most awesome restaurant. We arrived a bit late due to storm conditions, but they were so accomodating and polite. We had waited 2 months for reservations so I was so nervous about not being able to eat there on my birthday! We did the 8 course tasting menu. I eat everything, but my husband doesn't eat pork or shellfish and they were able to acclimate to our tastes and requests. After dinner we got a tour of the kitchen which was immaculate and totally fascinating to see and we met the chef. We would definitely eat here again. The food was to die for. Not an every day place to eat unless you want to end up in the poor house or you're Bill Gates, but it is worth every penny for special occasions."

The innovative approach to the tasting menu - selecting from an ingredients list rather than a choice of dishes - is a testament to the restaurant's confidence in what it grows, prepares, and serves. It is farm-to-table, yes, but elevated to haute cuisine. As to the ambience, everything from the attire of the staff and architecture to the food presentation and table settings are understated yet sophisticated and elegant at the same time. All is in balance. And how wonderful that lunch and not the ubiquitous brunch is served on Sundays. We were thrilled to be there and enjoyed the entire experience, right down to the best coffee ever, which I was able to purchase later in the cafe. It is all perfection"

"I thought the food was great! Blue Hill at Stone Barns mentions nothing on their website about it being OK to bring children. So, we decided to bring our 1 year old daughter for brunch. They were very accomodating, but thankfully we thought to bring our own "high chair" -- one that clamps onto the table. They have no high chairs. The one big downer about the entire experience was the sun. They sat us in a booth along the left-hand side wall of the restaurant and none of these windows have shades or curtains. My husband was staring into the sun the entire time. When we asked if something could be done, they suggested he move to the other side of the table, to sit next to me. Um, no. Get curtains or shades. The other windows, do."

"There was little to complain about at Blue Hill. After hearing so many positive reviews about the restaurant, I arrived with an especially critical mind, but they did not disappoint. The only thing that bothered me was that overall the food was too salty for my liking. Otherwise, the service was friendly, warm, attentive and outstanding (the only mistake made at the end when the runner served espressos to the wrong people). The space was elegant yet comfortable and every staff made us feel welcomed. The amuse bouche and rest of the courses were creative. Perfect portions. But as creative the food was, they were not crazy- they were simple yet perfectly crafted, not masking the flavors of the fresh produce and proteins they use."

Sublime, incredibly delicious food presented in a large, yet cozy, dining hall by the most courteous and friendly of staff. Every need is anticipated from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave to your waiting coats and car, the atmosphere is warm and vibrant, and the food is truly edifying and sometimes surprising. Bring an appetite, and open mind and lots of time--our 8-course meal (no a-la-carte) was a roughly 4-hour journey; worth every second, but something to note if you have time constraints.

"This was our second time at Blue Hill at Stone Bar and we were again thoroughly impressed. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday & decided on the 8 course Farmers Menu w/ wine pairing. The food & wine pairings were fantastic. You need to be a bit adventurous since the menu is at the Chef's discretion, but the staff is extremely accommodating. They prepare a menu in the direction of your choice, vegetarian, piscatorial, carnivorous, adventurous/exotic (organ meats & game), etc. My wife and I are "foodies", so we were taking notes on each course trying to decipher the ingredients. Our waiter noticed and kindly offered for the Chef to write out our menu, we were delighted to see Dan Barber himself signed it! Can't wait to return!"

"My wife and I went to Blue Hill for Valentine's Day. While the whole experience was incredibly romantic, the food really was a let down. I completely knew going in that everything would be prepared fresh and from local farms, but with that in mind I thought the food would be tremendous and it was not. The set menu gave us two options per course and nothing was incredible. One option was a soft boiled egg with truffles and polenta, which came out more like water with an egg and some little mushoorms...no hint of truffle - the meat option was Lamb or pork, both of which were lacking any real flavor and honestly I was expecting something a little more exciting. This meal cost over $400 with tip and not one thing was exceptional. Sad..."

"Everything was excellent; service impeccable. One, obviously petty, comment: After charging me $135 per person for an 8 course farmer's feast (which is actually more like 10-11 courses), think about throwing in the coffee at the meals end. $4 per cup seems a bit odd......and please tell the wait staff to smile more. I realize the elegance of the restaurant leads to a maybe unintended formality, but the best server we had was the one who really looked like she was enjoying herself."

"Food good, wine list excellent, service very friendly and professional but the pacing was way off. We got served all three amuse courses before we were done with our cocktails then waited 25 minutes between first and second courses. Need to fix that. Hamachi and farm egg dish were weak, otherwise everything good. Overall not as good as our first time there but will come back."

"My husband and I really enjoyed our Valentine's Day lunch at Blue Hill at Stone Barns...the restaurant never disappoints. Initially we were skeptical of the Prix Fixe only option but, in the end, the selections were amazing and the portions reasonable so it was not too much food for a Sunday afternoon. As always, each course was simply and beautifully presented, particularly the Amuses Bouches: particularly noteworthy was our first, a salsify and hazelnut soup topped with a slice of Coppo ham. So very simple in presentation and yet as delicious as it was lovely to look at. My husband was also quite taken with the Beet Burgers with goat cheese; yet another Amuse that was delightful in its simplicity. We cannot wait for our next visit!"

"Spectacular - though hard to find - location, with a suprisingly small dining room. Service was frenetic but unexceptional - you had a sense of everyone hurrying about, but relatively little true "service" at the table. We enjoyed a "five course" tasting menu which, curiously, treated the after-dinner pallet cleanser as a "fourth course" - for shame! The appetizers were seasoned with a too-heavy hand - the raw fish cut too thick for easy chewing - but other dishes were quite good. Wine list is over-priced, and tends toward sweeter - less dry - wines; the wine pairing offered for the tasting menu was uninspired. Altogether, an excellent restaurant with some problems - more problems than should be tolerated at this price point."

"The location is, needless to say, gorgeous. There is a lovely bar/lounge area to have a drink before your meal. The dining room itself is beautiful, simple, elegant, rustic and modern at the same time. We had a Valentine's day pre-fixe 5 course meal which was incredible. Every Dish was fabulous- we ordered 1 of each to try them all, and were pleased with every course. The food presentation was lovely as well, as were the flowers on the table. Best food experience I've had in ages. All in all, a wonderful, romantic meal. Will definitely go back, and try Blue Hill in NYC."

"I honestly think this was one of the best meals I have eaten. The menu is made just for your table so as long as you are honest with the waiter/waitress about what you like and dislike you should love your meal. The ambience is very comfortable and the decor is beautiful. The eggs were really fresh, the beats were too. The kale ships were great and the venison was cooked perfectly. The pork was good, not great. The hake was incredible and the mullet crudo was good too. You also get a lot of amuse-bouches including beet burgers, veal bone marrow with caviar, and some cured meats. All in all, a perfect dining experience that was only marred slightly by the fact that our train back to manhattan was running 20 minutes late."

"We have dined at Blue Hill Stone Barn several times and each time the food is a wonderful creative eating adventure. The Farmer's Feast never fails to bring great surprises of fresh seasonal delights, even in the dead of winter. Do not go here looking for a small or cheap version of the menu, just to try, when you get there you are in for a full feast and make sure you have plenty of time. The staff is very helpful and does customize your feast for food allergies or other concerns. Reservations are very tough to get, but our table is generally ready when we walk in even on a very busy night. Go to Stone Barn for a unique food experience, relax and let it happen."

"We had not been to Blue Hill in the last few years, but upon this visit we learned that diners have only two choices: an eight course or a five course dinner. Once one is selected and any dietary or strong food preferences are discussed with the waiter, you are at the mercy of the restaurant in terms of actual selections. While some might enjoy the anticipation of what will be coming next, our group all preferred dining the old-fashioned way, i.e., you get to choose, not the chef. I'm sure the economics of this system are very favorable to the house, but the prices are sufficiently high (our dinner, with cocktails and one very modest bottle of wine, cost over $700), that a more traditional approach should be offered. We won't be going back."

"Best meal of my life. Took my girlfriend for her birthday and can't imagine having a better experience. The five course tasting with wine pairing was about the perfect amount of food and wine. If I had to make one slight complaint it would be that the sommelier didn't seem like he really wanted to be there, but he still described every wine pairing pretty well. We already our planning our anniversary back here."

"My wife and I were very impressed with the quality of the food and service. Having been our first time there we immediately made plans to make the trip (we live over 100 miles away) several times per year. "The total experience at Blue Hill at Stone Farm is nothing short of brilliant. This was my first visit for Sunday lunch and, amazingly, I may have enjoyed it more than the sublime dinner I had back in December. From the generous number of Amuse Bouche starters through to the extraordinary dessert, the meal was so good it almost brought tears to my eyes. New visitors should know that the menu is set both in price and food (adjusted of course dietary restrictions)but you are in the hands of a true genius in the kitchen. I plan on going at least once a season to see what the menu becomes as a result of the different foods grown at that time of year. Blue Hill at Stone Farm is a gift."

"It's not often I get to eat at a restaurant where the food is grown on the premises. It's hard to eat and cook for ourselves like that in NYC, but we do what we can with supporting the market and local sources. The experience at Blue Hill was great. I love dining experiences where the service is on-point, attentive, and elegant (my other two great memorable experiences are eleven madison park and alain ducasse). My one and only disappointment was that the food felt less contemporary with the sauces and superfluous seasonings covering up the beauty and natural flavor of some of the foods. We are looking forward to going back in warmer weather we can tour the farm grounds."

"Dining at Blue Hill at Stone Barns is an excursion into pampering and luxuriousness for your taste, smell, and sight senses. We ordered the farmer's feast 8 course meal and everything was outstanding. The food is all exceptionally prepared and tremendously flavorful. You can tell only the highest quality ingredients are used.
The service is also impeccable. When they bring out plates, two servers place them down in front of you and your guests in unison. The same is true when they clear them. The servers also stop by your table occasionally with descriptions of the ingredients (where they come from, how they are grown, etc) as a teaser to peak your anticipation of the next course.
Blue Hill at Stone Barns is HIGHLY recommended"

"From the time we were greeted by the maitre'd to the time our car was ready to be picked up, the dining experience was very special. Although very expensive it was well worth it. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive. The portions are not large but there was certainly "extras" to make us comfortably full by the end of the evening. We had a reasonably priced red Italian which went well with the $110 prix fixe meal we each had."

"We have been trying via schedules to go to the Blue Hill. It was totally awesome. It was like going to and being part of a play. The food was fantastic, the service incredible. Up to and including having my coat ready as we are leaving and the car running and ready for us as well. The staff professional yet personable. You did not have to ask for anything and if you did by chance it was handled immediately. Special occasion place and wish more restaurants would have their staff trained as professionally."

"It's an experience, but not an entirely wonderful one. Most of the food is unusual and exquisitely prepared, but a couple of choices were disappointing. For instance, our fish course was followed by the meat course, which was pork. It was white fish followould have wed by white meat--not much contrast there. Also, although it's interesting to hear the waiters' explanations of how the food came to be, the multiple servers per table and, in general, the overattentive service, can get to be a bit much. From the moment we walked it it seemed as though someone was hovering around us. And they all take their jobs v-e-r-y seriously--except for one of our servers, w young woman, who actually smiled when she delivered her exposes."

The drama at the start of the meal was created with 'farm grown' amuse-bouches in the form of raw veggies artfully presented, then a wooden block of root vegetable chips. Amazing Every course was a surprise and while not all to our taste, we appreciated the ingenuity and attention of each dish. "Our dining experience was outstanding. We were a party of 6- all of us are serious foodies. We actually discussed the dishes days after our meal! They pair such unusual things together and the result is one scrumptious dish presented after another. (ie.beets with peanut butter and beet sliders to name a few) We all marveled at the freshness of the vegetables ("Mom, how come you can't make vegetables like this???") We also marveled at the synchronized service-they take the plates away in a synchronized way!!! They stack the plates silently, they cover up beet stains with a napkin, they fold the napkins when you leave the table and I could go on and on. The sauces are subtle and unbelievable. The decor was festive and beautiful. WOW!"

"the atmosphere,service,and appointments were wondreful.the food however left alot to be desired. we had the eight course farmer tasteing menu with dizzing array of options,most of which were either,flat/bland,or to ambitious ie,[a] poached carrot in a pool of carrot puree.or ,a couple of other dishes with too many uncomplimentary tastes or flavors happening.i do not believe we got enough bang for our buck."

"There are very few restaurants that provide a dining experience like Blue Hill at Stone Barns. Its stunning as an elegant country restaurant that provides a sophisticated atmosphere with very simple foods all grown or raised on the farm. there is no menu in the traditional sense just a detailed list of what produce and meats are available. The server is careful to ask about any food allergies or preferences and then the chef does the rest. Each presentation is more surprising than the one before. I'm still trying to figure out how they cooked a single carrot that made it the best one you've ever tasted. Pricey but so far above most other restaurants that its worth it. If you've got a special occasion or a trust fund - go!"

"Beautiful setting, but the selection of food and portion size left much to be desired. I love tasting menus but prefer to see what the menu entails in advance. The presentation of food from the farm in between courses got to be a bit much...almost felt like we were at Disney World. The best part of the meal was that they had our coats waiting for us and the car was heated up and pulled up front when we walked out. We wouldn't return..."

"For people serious about great food, a pilgrimage to Blue Hills is a must. We recently made the third of what will be many visits. Our expectations could not have been higher and the experience could not have been exceeded. Not knowing what is going to be served is a great part of what makes the experience so special. The waiter provides a list of possible ingredients and asks if anyone has allergies or strong dislikes. I suggest green lighting everything since these chefs can make anything taste wonderful. Like any truly great restaurant, Blue hills provides a large number of unique items served in small portions. You leave feeling very satisfied but not in need of a tailor to let out your garments."

"A romantic retreat to a perfect place. The best service: polite, refined, clear- with no disingenuous undertones. Large tables for two, spacious dining, a quiet room, a beautiful place to call home for the night. And no palate could refute such honorary dishes that captured the essence of seasonal. Marrow with caviar, carrot with breadcrumbs, a taste of '94 vintage! All with a story behind them. Forget waiting for a special occasion to come around, Blue Hill is a holiday in itself. ***You may visit the animals and walk around the grounds. Also the soup, sandwiches and sides at the cafe are prepared with the same care and can be enjoyed on a picnic table overlooking the farm during the day.***"

"This was an experience of a lifetime! The wait staff served in precision...they were graceful and it almost felt like a dance because they were so synchronized. The food, though not for the picky type... was just delicious. Each tasting had such a unique feel and the presentation was beautiful. It was without a doubt, the longest (4 hour meal) I have sat through, and the most expensive ($550. for three people /no wine) but I loved every minute and will never forget it. As you look around, you notice that each table has a slightly different presentation or selection of tastings which made us all feel like we were getting a one of a kind experience. I would suggest this dining experience for anyone who has the wallet, time and pallet"

"We did the five-course tasting menu and the food was excellent - expertly cooked and plated, with good pacing between courses.
The wine list is very overpriced, especially by-the-glass. Of twelve whites, only one Chardonnay at $22 per glass - outrageous. The one French champagne by the glass is similarly, extortionately priced.
Service is professional but pretentious. I'm all for organic, sustainable, locally grown, etc. but I don't worship at the altar. Our table received a lecture before the first course about the provenance of the beets and each course was delivered with a reverential description - "purple Peruvian potato gnocci" - in a hushed, "be awed by our wonderfulness" tone. Silly and laughable at times."

"This is now the 4th time we have had a dinner experience at Blue Hill and each time was fantastic. This time was an outer body experience. After a few questions from the very educated staff, you just sit back, enjoy the company and the chef makes your palete dance the night away. There was this one course that truely was a masterpiece. Medium boiled egg rolled in cheese and topped in bread crumbs laying in a New England Claim Chowder with Lentils as its sea bed... Amazing."

"Overall a unique, positive experience. Nothing exceeded our expectations however - they were high going in for our first meal here. Tasting menu was very creative at every course. We had some clear disappointments unfortunately. We waited at the table for twenty minutes to place wine order before sommelier got around to us. Service overall was slow - we sat regularly for fifteen to twenty minutes between courses; Total meal time of three and a half hours for just the two of us is unacceptable. Our principal server was poorly informed about the meal - She could not answer our basic questions about the courses and seemed flustered/over her head. Conversely, the (army of) supporting staff was attentive."
