"I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Le Chat Noir. Not only did the owner/manager check in with our table regularly, but the waitress was full of suggestions when we inquired. the food was superb and exactly as ordered. Definitely try the escargot and intend on a bottle of wine from their outstanding list!"

"Noisy, overly crowded, mediocre food, and terrible service. The waitress acted as if it were a privilege for me to have been there and paid no heed that perhaps MY time was valuable. Slowest service EVER! Needless to say, I won't be venturing to this restaurant again. I could add a note for the restaurant, but why bother when the attitude of staff is clearly that of sheer apathy."

"The brie, bacon and onion tart was outstanding (tart asterix I believe) and can't beat the half priced bottle of wine selection on Tuesday nights! We came in for a late dinner on Tuesday and the restaurant was very quiet, but we were still given professional, lovely service. Will definitely come back!"

"It was a disappoIntment. We've eaten there often but Friday night was a mess. Steak frite was tough , $62 wine recommended by waitress, a burgundy, was bland, service was just terrible. What was booked as a special occasion evening was a flop from the moment we arrived and were left ungeeted at the door for 5-6 minutes. Not sure we'll go back."

"We have eaten at le chat dozens of times and sadly i have to say this was our worst experience. It appears they have opened a second restaurant in dc and it appears that some of the staff has moved to the other place with the result that le chat was under staffed and the food was not up to snuff. We waited 30 minutes to have a bottle of wine delivered to our table. The new fellow helping out front took our order but then completely forgot about it and came back 15 minutes later to ask what wine we wanted! We had already re made the order with another server. As a first course we ordered a salad we have ordered many times. The recipe was different and they failed to put any dressing on the greens. They need to get things in gear."

"My 'fit for foodies' ratings are very hard to come by - an establishment needs to go above and beyond, not just get an A-. Very good food, great service (Andrew was wonderful) and the owner took a moment to make sure everything was on par. The French onion soup was great - lovely thick broth, great bouillabaisse and pretty good boeuf bourguignon. The crepes for dessert were very light and flavorful and the chocolate mousse was sadly disappointing - very light and airy but missing the serious intensity so lauded by french mousse. Overall wonderful experience."

Most importantly -- each and every course from the salads and appetizers -- salute to the mussels -- to the entrees -- to the dessert crepes and coffees -- was delectable. Wine and beer selections were extensive, upper tier and appropriate in terms of quality and cost. The welcoming host was wonderful -- however, the servers were many -- making it somewhat difficult to engage. Overall, a truly pleasing evening."

"Le Chat Noir makes you feel like you are in someone's living room, eating dinner, so it has an intimate feel to it. The food was great, the service was a little funny. When we arrived with our reservation, three people said they would seat us and then disappeared. Finally someone seated us. Then it took forever to get the check but over all the server was very attentive and I feel like there were people constantly taking and removing dishes. I would definitely go back."

"We decided to give the Chat Noir a second chance, even though we were underwhelmed on our last visit four years ago. But friends kept commending it. Unfortunately, again we did not like the food. The appetizer, a charcuterie assortment, was clearly store bought... My guess is from Rodman's, the discount store up the street. My husband's cassoulet was tasty. My curried mussels are best described as tasteless mussels on top on a thin curry lowfat cream sauce. Great bread!
The service was friendly and professional, the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed by DC standards. The tables are really close to one another, not a place to go for privacy.
Since I am French, people ask me for commendations, too bad this wont be on my list :("

"This was my first time at a French restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, as the food was so flavorful, well prepared, decent portion sizes. The wait staff was very attentive when we I went on a Tues nite. The prices were very decent at $20-$30 for all dishes. "Food was delicious. We had a great deal of trouble making up our minds among all the wonderful choices. We split a tasty gallette as appetizer. For the main course I enjoyed the Boeuf Bourguignon and my wife had the delicious medaillons du porc. "This was our second time dining at Le Chat Noir. The food was excellent and well-priced. The one fault to the meal was the coffee which seemed to have been in the pot too long. Patrons of the restaurant should know that the tables are very close together. We had the upper room to ourselves for most of the meal. Near the end, a couple (who appeared to be on a first date) was seated next to us and we couldn't help but overhear things that we wouldn't reveal to our closest friends, let alone strangers in a restaurant. We chose to skip dessert rather than listen any longer. Of course, this wasn't the restaurant's fault, but we will be sure to request a table away from the edge of the room the next time we eat at Le Chat Noir."

"This was my first time dining at Le Chat Noir. I've been living in the neighborhood for some time now and am angry at myself for not visiting sooner! The setting was great -- it has a true French bistro feel (which includes the tables being on top of each other) and the food is top notch while being priced very reasonable. "My hubby and I went there on Wednesday evening, it was quiet evne though the restaurant was pretty full. The food was very good. They even went out of their way to make my favorite drink based just on ingredients (I did not know proportions). The drink came out very close to the original (probably in house recipe at other restaurant). We saw couples, older people (they know what's best!) and families there. Very cozy place, owned by Parisian Lady. Desserts were awesome! Overall it was a very positive experience. We met a very nice Parisian Lady at the restaurant (she is a regular) and had a great conversation about France and what to see there, i.e. real life, not tourist spots. Great place. I was still "in the zone" for awhile. :-)"

"Saturday night and it was full to the brim - infact a little too full. People were packed in very close together, although we were on a table for two, it felt like four as were were sat so close to the people next to us. Not at all what I expected or wanted for a night out especially considering the prices. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient, they did very well considering how few of them there were compared to how many people were in. Food was well cooked and presented but I was very disappointed that there was no veggie option. Nice place...but to crammed for my liking. Maybe better on a weekday."

"i heard so many positive things about this place and was so disappointed when I had brunch with a good friend. The actual brunch menu was limited compared to the online version. My friends food was cold. And the food took way too long to come out. There were only a few people actually there when we ordered. The waited was unattentive and we had to ask for water and coffee.
I am hesitant to return and spend more money on lunch or dinner if the brunch was so-so."

"Once again a terrific meal at Le Chat Noir. Anything they make that involves a sauce or soup is just sublime. We also dined there during Restaurant Week (although we didn't realize that it was going to be Restaurant Week) and the meal was outstanding. Next year we'll plan on it. For the sight-challenged, carrying a small flashlight for restaurant menus is always a good idea, and it would have helped here. The mood is French bistro, a bit dim for reading, but lovely for dining."

"Valentines Night things went awry. The restaurant booked too many, too close time wise and did not have enough wait staff. The result was a disaster for the restaurant with a meal taking almost three hours due to long waits for the various dishes to arrive. However, this was very unlike Le Chat Noir. My wife and I have enjoyed their special nights in the past and will not hesitate to dine chez Le Chat Noir again ."

"Le Chat Noir has a typical French Bistro casual atmosphere. A good Valentine's Day spot. If you need to get in and out quickly, they are very accommodating. If you want to dine for longer, it is not a problem. I always enjoy my dining experience here. "I have never seen a more disorganized restaurant in my life. After waiting over 45 minutes past our reservation time for a table, we waited another 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken. Our appetizers arrived at our table after we were done with our very average entrees. And when those appetizers arrived, they were not what we ordered! When I asked for basic condiments from 4 different people including the manager, I finally had to go into the kitchen and get them myself.
A basic Point Of Sale system would help solve much of the confusion in their operations, but overall, the staff from the manager to the busboys are all in way over their head and its a shame because this used to be a nice neighborhood restaurant."
