"First visit since the change from Spring Hill, and a great first impression. Fried chicken lived up to its reputation: done just so with excellent seasoning. Sides of asparagus and poke were superb. Our server was attentive, friendly, and paced our meal nicely."

"The fried chicken was delicious as expected but we felt we were inconveniencing the wait staff by being there. Never a smile, every question was met with short and often incorrect answers (often so they wouldn't have to work more) and we truly felt unwelcome."

"This place is a lot of fun. If there are those of you who are wondering how good fried chicken could possibly be, you might not be alone. The chicken is definitely very good, but some people might argue that Ezell's is better -- I think it's hard for me to bite into fried chicken and think "Well, this is definitely worth $40". The sides are definitely great though. We had the steamed pork buns and they were amazing.
The service was not all that impressive. Our waitress seemed distracted, impersonable, and rushed. The place was very busy, but a good waitress could have weathered that better and helped make our experience much more pleasant."

"Easily made reservation on line. At first the menu selection did not appeal to me ,but as soon as I saw the meals being served around me I wanted everything. We had the short ribs for appetizers and they were excellent. Their house wines were very good.
One of us had the Fried chicken and the other had the steak. Lots of food, Great flavors and had to take home left overs. A friend told me about this place and had advised me to try the fried chicken. Glad we went. We thought of a lot of friend and family who would enjoy this place and will tell them all."

"Food is WAY too salty. by the time I was half way through my quiche,I could feel the salt burning my tongue. My husband's oxtail soup was also much too salty. Everything there was just a bit over the top...need to learn some subtlety in their cooking.
Also, when you have oxtail soup on the menu, then serve something that people will think of as oxtail soup--or describe how it will be different. My husband got a clear broth with lots of noodles in it, and a few pieces of meat here and there...NOT what most people expect. He ate it but it wasn't what he wanted. A lot of restaurants do this these days--you are not given adequate description so that you can truly choose something you will end up liking."

"We went for a birthday dinner and one in our group used a walker, and there was no problem with that. The appetizers came quickly and the other dishes--which were delightfully spiced vegetables along with one chicken--also came in good time. We ordered one whole chicken for 4 of us--it was plenty and we took about 1/2 home. It was moist and tasty, but unless you are a fried chicken fan I wouldn't necessarily recommend it over the other dishes. The chocolate pudding for dessert was a perfect ending."

"This was our first time at Ma'ono. Brunch was delicious. Everyone was pleased with their choices and we all said we'd love to come back. I had to make a change to our reservation somewhat last minute and they were very accommodating. All of the staff was very friendly and attentive."

"Our server was not very pleasant nor attentive. My fries were cold and hard. They tasted old. Our water was only refilled once, maybe twice. They have very small water glasses. I was unimpressed with the food for how much it cost. Especially my cocktail from their cocktail list which was $11 each. It was very tasty, but quite overpriced. This was our first time coming since they turned it into Ma'ono. We had more pleasant experiences when it was Spring Hill."

"The Restaurant Week menu was NOT the usual rehashed, reduced portion offerings of standard menu items that you see in many restaurants. The portions were full-sized, the selections were creative and clearly showed a Hawaiian inspiration, and the waitress said they were developed especially for Restaurant Week. For instance, the ferns were crisp but caramelized, like they had been sautéed quickly on a hot grill -- excellent! So don't limit yourself to the headline fried chicken, but look for intriguing dishes in the rest of the menu."

"Maybe I'm guilty of believing all the hype but really what's the big deal? $35 for a deep fried chicken? And it was dry and over cooked. The three sauces, wasabi, hot chili and kim-chi? All kind of boring. There's more places in the ID for the real thing that tastes much better and fresher. We'd heard so much about the sides and cocktails, but the sides were TINY but flavorful and pretty. And for me to only have ONE cocktail on a friday night is not a good sign, overpriced and murky flavors, no wonder it came to the table so quickly, we didn't really taste the craftsmanship that would justify the price. $130.00 plus tip for the three of us and I had to have a snack when I got home."

"We like this place,and go in regularly, but it has its service problems. First, a 7:45 reservation on a weekend means you might get a seat at 8:15. They don't have this down. Once seated on this night we waited, no exaggeration, 7 minutes before anyone said anything and before water was poured in our glasses, another four before anyone asked about wine, another four to get that. Would not be so bad, except people that were seated after us, right next to us, had drinks and were ordering before we got out wine! I am always in that section, the slow one, and cannot figure it out! I will say this, if you point it out, they do try to make up for it, and are very nice people!"

"We had a party of 6 and I made a reservation ahead of time. They sat us as soon as we arrived. I was surprised the restaurant wasn't busier for Restaurant Week. I thought the chicken was very good. It was crispy and juicy and the dipping sauces were yummy. I felt the kimchi portion was a bit small for the amount of chicken and I suggest offering a one refill. The trout, grits, sweet rolls, and brussels were all very good. The pork buns were a bit dry and didn't seem very special. I plan on coming back for brunch because that menu looks great too."

"Service was not up to usual level on this night. We felt ignored. We had to ask for attention to wine, which sat empty for a long time and took almost 15 minutes even to receive after arriving. However, I want to say I brought this to the manager's attention and she handled this very well, and we will be back. It was an off night, a truly bad off night, but it was handled professionally and we appreciate that."

"The food was delicious, of course, but the service was pretty bad. The waiter had a bad attitude. For example, when I asked her if the banana cream pie would be large enough for 2, she sneered and said, "Well, I don't know how you eat." Throughout she was sullen at best and sneering and mocking at worst. One of the people I was dining with is a bartender at a local chain restaurant and we were pretty shocked.
I love Ma'ono and go there with friends or for special occasions regularly. However, the quality of the food on Saturday I would say is not as good as it's been in the past. I hope that was just a fluke, along with the weird waiter."

"I can walk to this restaurant so I go often. I love the vibe at this place. It's almost always full of people and conversation and laughter, yet you can have an intimate conversation as well. Many menu items are unexpected and interesting -- which is what I like best. However they have stopped offering oysters, which I miss terribly."

"I tried Ma'ono Fried Chicken and Whiskey for Sunday brunch. I had seen good reviews on it through Yelp and many of my friends recommended it.
Service was great and timely and the food was Ono (Hawaiian for "good" or "tasty")!
My friend and I ended up getting the breakfast sandwich, French Toast with
Fried chicken nuggets & sausage gravy and the two egg breakfast. We loved it.

"Really great menu. We had the fried chicken, which is the staple. I'm glad we were able to order and make reservations in advance since the wait if you just showed up was an hour forty five minutes.
Food was incredible. For just the two of us, we were able to take the chicken home and get another meal out of it.
Great drink list too."

"We were very excited to go to Ma'ono and pre-ordered our chicken. The energy was good, although a bit on the loud side. The food was OK at best and incredibly slow, maybe our opinions of quality were jaded by the slow experience (see below). Our chicken took over an hour to arrive at the table and a number of diners around us, that arrived after us, got their meals (chicken as well) well before ours came. Our watress seemed completely unaware of this until we pointed it out."

"Absolutely top drawer food and drinks, presented with impeccable taste and design. When full, however, it's noisy enough to make quiet conversation impossible. Try to hit late brunch--say 1:30--and you'll be fine. Dinners are great, too, with same caution re noise. The food's flavore and inventiveness makes up for a lot, especially the hard surfaces."

"Have gone to Ma'ono several times and had good experience. This particular evening was very disappointing. The waitperson we had was new (and explained that) but left us hanging several times. We had to ask the hostess to bring us our drinks, she gave us attitude about asking. I might have saved myself the attitude and got up myself and grabbed my own drink off the bar (which had been sitting there for over 10 min).
Again, I understand when the staff is new but I also feel that it is important for other staff members to jump in and help as needed without attitude."

"I consider myself a knowledgeable foodie and I can't find anything not to like about Ma'Ono. The Hawaiian theme isn't the most authentic but they sure have fun with those flavor profiles. I LOVE THE FRIED CHICKEN WITH HOT MUSTARD, SWEET CHILI, STICKY RICE AND KIMCHI!! It was only $20 for a half friend chicken and all those sides, we could have easily just ordered that with our 3 top, but we also had to try the porkbelly and roasted apple brussel sprouts, schezchuan green beans and portugese sausage which was served almost like bahn mi. "We had a great time, and had reserved a chicken when making our reservations. The chicken was hot and very good, however on both of the drumsticks- there was still red liquid blood in the center. We bit into both of the drumsticks (2 different people in our party) and both found red liquid blood deep in the meat, and the meat was still pink in the very center. We did not eat our drumsticks. I realize that is the thickest part of the chicken, but they should have been cooked longer. We took them home and microwaved them the next day, which then fully cooked them, but by then the skin was greasy and no longer crunchy, having been cooked till done in the microwave."

"I was greatly disappointed in the chicken. $40 for a chicken is a crazy price, but a friend recommended it and said it was the best she had ever had. I found the chicken to be somewhat dry, flavor was definitely not out of this world. The breading was very good, I will say that, but I think that Popeye's extra crispy is just as good. I would not buy this over priced chicken again. I expected this food to be mind blowing for the cost; not so."

"Ma ono's fried chicken is second to none. Invitably crunchy on the out side and moist and tender on the inside. To complete our meal (there were 4 of us and we had 1 whole chicken) we collectivly ordered small plates such as the fried rice, cheesey grits (YUM!!) short ribs, and edamame to name a few. The service was strong and precise. To round off our meal we all shared a double scoop of their famous popcorn flavored ice cream. This stuff is amazing and I don't eat dessert as a rule. Put this place on your bucket list. Most fun for small groups."
