Since its opening 30 years ago, Chez Jacqueline has managed to capture the real and true flavors of the Côte d'Azur. Located on MacDougal Street in the West Village, the charming neighborhood bistro offers simple (direct) sustaining food for which Nice is famed. Whether it's the traditional 'soupe de poissons' served with garlic croutons and rouille or the Daube Nicoise, tender braised beef in a pungent, red wine sauce, Chez Jacqueline's cuisine is as close as one can come to Nice in New York.
"The steak frites is amazing - just cook as it should be. The moules and Anchois are very tasty Had the creme brulee and Tarte tatin (apples were just cook at perfection) Nice wine list with a variety of choice and a wide range of price/
Service is good - they make themselves available.
Very french bistro like - and I did enjoy it. No rush, nobody pushing you out. And if you come a little before your reservation you can grab a drink at the bar"

"Quaint neighborhood restaurant with an understated flair.....good wine list, diverse menu and attentive but not overly-pushy waitstaff......combine all together for the perfect meal and dining experience."

"The food is French style but the restaurant isn't at all French--staff are Spanish speaking and don't know the food or even understand when you ask questions; the liver was thinly sliced instead of thick in the French style (so it couldn't be served rare the way we like it) . Loud music was sort of ugly rock and roll, not soft French singers or instrumental music that's good for background for dining atmosphere. Very disappointing to people who love French food and ambiance."

"This restaurant frequently issues wonderful Groupon/Travelzoo deals - real bargains at $69 that include a bottle of wine, two apps, two entrees and two desserts. You can't beat the price. The food is French and excellent, but the seating is collegial, with diners ditting right next to each other, without any space between tables, as the tables are put together edge to edge. I advise to to late and on a weekday and ask for a table by the window. Then, the negative aspects of seating, noise, etc. should be minimized."

"While the food was quite decent, this long-standing restauarant was woefully understaffed (on a Sunday evening) with only one valiant waiter trying to serve all the tables, although the bartender left his station to pitch in from time to time. Therfore, there were long waits for the food and no attention to your table unless you absolutely needed something. I imagine there would be a better experience at an off-time when this small restaurant is not full."

"Worst restaurant experience. Bad food (greasy and tasteless) awful service and loud ambience with no music. It toons an hour and forty five minutes until our entree was served and when it came to the table it wasnt prepared as ordered. Very disappointing."

"Wanted to experience French cuisine and purchased a groupon. Food was good but the the lamb definitely was not lamb. It looked and tasted like London broil. I had the pork and it was ok just a little overlooked. Didn't really enjoy the tables as they were family style. I would go there again S long as I could get a groupon and try something different. Desert was very good."

"Dinner was lovely. Everything was beautifully prepared, service was just right. We were there quite early as we had to get back to midtown for a play, so the restaurant was still fairly quiet - just starting to fill up as we were leaving. It's possible that service and noise level would change as it filled up. I'll find out when I go back, which I definitely will."

"This is a VERY GOOD restaurant. The service is professional and very low key although our server has a subtle sense of humor that goes over well (both times we've eaten there.) Loin of Lamb and Duck Breast were among the best we've ever had."

"The food was exceptional as always! Wine was free flowing. We went on a Travelzoo again and it was still awesome. We got the corner table I requested when I made the reservation. My only gripe is the "friendliness" of the staff. Maybe its a language barrier or a cultural thing but they aren't very "warm". The main guy and our server were NOT french so we can't say, OH they were just being French. They are unsmiling and not very personable but service was quick and reliable. I guess that's all that's important. It's not like we're there to have a conversation with them. But it did feel a bit uncomfortable at times when we asked them questions and got a succinct response."

"Enjoyed a nice early birthday dinner with my twin daughters, one of which is a NYU student. Her dorm is two blocks from Chez Jacqueline. We will definitely be back! Great escargot, duck, and my favorite dessert was the special of the day, profiteroles. Tres bon!! Pommes frites were amazing, Pinot noir wine by the glass reasonably priced. Overall an enjoyable dining experience."

"We would have preferred a 1:00 brunch reservation but as we made the reservation on line only 12:30 was available. Upon arriving at 12:30 the restaurant had only two other tables occupied. That being said the service was excellent and the food was also. Because there was no one there we sat and had a very leisurely brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the rare opportunity to sit after a meal and just chat."
