Depot Hotel Restaurant
The DEPOT HOTEL RESTAURANT is a charming neighborhood restaurant located in an historic stone building just a block off the Plaza in Sonoma. Locals and visitors to the Wine Country enjoy casual Tuscan-inspired cuisine in the Vinoteca, in the cozy dining rooms, and on the terraces surrounding the shady Italian garden and reflection pool. Food is a passion at the DEPOT HOTEL RESTAURANT for the father and son Chef team--whether it is making house-made antipasti, or handmade pasta, or fresh ricotta. In addition to products made in-house, the Sonoma wine country around us offers an abundance of new artisanal products. The search for the best local products is a treasure hunt both chefs enjoy--whether from the coast, local farms, or local cheese makers. Come join us for a trattoria-style lunch or dinner...or just drop into our Vinoteca for informal small plates of antipasti and a glass of wine. Our focus is casual Italian comfort food--served in an informal Sonoma wine country atmosphere.

"A Mothers Day brunch is not the ideal time to review a restaurant, but that's when we went. Slow, desultory service, maybe because of the number of diners, but that's no excuse. After we finally got a waiters attention, the food arrived in reasonable time and it was satisfying. However, when we finally were asked for our dessert selection, the tiramisu was all gone. Other diners seated nearby were as disappointed as I was. My overall impression is that the Depot Hotel Restaurant is not up to its past food and service."

"It was a fabulous evening and I'm a local and had a gift certificate to celebrate my birthday. We eat there several times a year and it's always fabulous food. My only 'negative' comment would be to SLOW down THE service...Food game a bit too quickly. Their crab cantaloni is fabulous and my date had a wonderful linguine pasta with shrimp/artichoke hearts and they also have an awesome Caesar salad....yummy...desserts are exceptional also."

"Great ambiance, we sat outside which was very nice & quiet. My husband & I both ordered the Steelhead in a broth with peas & asparagus which was very good & diet friendly. I ordered the cheesecake which I thought was great, my husband didn't think was anything special. My husband ordered the chocolate decadence cake with mango, which was very dense like a flourless cake (super dense), we both didn't really expect or care for. Overall this was a nice place to eat with great outdoor dining."

"Even though it is just off the Square, the Depot Hotel Restaurant has always felt a little off the beaten track and a little lost in time which was part of its charm. It still retains those qualities while getting a tasteful and extensive update to make the lovely outdoor dining area even more so. The food has always been good although it has sometimes felt a little dated. Now, the chef is executing new ideas, using top ingredients and changing the menu more frequently. The wait staff are long-timers who are friendly, unpretentious, know their stuff and help create a wonderful experience. On our last visit, two friends who had not been to the Depot before, joined us for lunch. They were surprised and delighted by this "find"."

"Love coming here however this past time..I ordered a seafood stew which frankly, was horrible...the salmon quenelle in it were horrible tasting only one piece of scallop one shrimp very little with alot of liquid...very disappointed..will never order that again...we were with another couple and they did not like that order either...I did not complain because we were with another couple, otherwise if it was just me and my husband, I would have complained...but will still go back.."

"This was our first visit to the Depot and it was fabulous. Lovely setting (we sat outdoors on a lovely spring evening), wonderful food and excellent service. The chef even gave us a delicious bruschetta to enjoy while we looked over the menu. We loved everything about the Depot. Loved, loved the beet salad...the veal and pasta dishes were delicious. House made cannoli was yummie. We will be back soon."

"The owner welcomed us and also showed us to a very nice table. Our server was great. The pork belly and frisée salad was wonderful. We had the pork porterhouse and their special roasted chicken that was exceptional. I would definitely go back. We were staying within walking distance and the Sonoma Square was packed so it was a pleasant reprieve."

"The intimate ambiance of The Depot is well known in Sonoma. It is divided into small cozy rooms and a back porch with 7 tables that look out onto a small Grecian pool. The menu is Cal-Ital with a limited but good quality wine list. Salads are served cold, crisp and interesting with choices of gorgonzola, crushed blue cheese and glazed nuts and fruits. Dungeness crab cannelloni in a rich cream sause was wonderful. We had pan seared halibut over tortellini that was tasty but the halibut was overdone. Cooking the halibut two minutes less would have made it perfect. Price is reasonable for the good quality of food. Server was pleasant and well informed on menu and wine list. Depot is a favorite of ours - off the Square in Sonoma."

"The food was very good and the service was outstanding. Unfortunately, a large group of 10 -12 people were sat directly next to us so it made it difficult to carry on a conversation with such a large group so close. The only other complaint was it became very cold the last 1/2 hour or so and we realized the front door of the restaurant was left wide open letting in the cold air....not sure why this was done?"

"They were very good about accommodating a couple of small requests for a change in the dish. In my case, no jack cheese on veal parm. and my husband's request for a little pasta to replace polenta. And very nice vegetables included on the main course plate."

"You might think the Depot Hotel is old fashioned, but far from it. The cuisine is imaginative, the service professional and the portions ample. Come with an appetite, as they won't disappoint. Rich flavors, an ambiance for handholding and stolen kisses."

"Service was slow in the beginning, but as soon as they realized the error we were taken care of perfectly. My husband and I had our wedding reception here and we like to come back for special occasions. Always great food and great people!"

"Went on Valentines Day for a special dinner and the food was fabulous. The tables are a bit crowded in so that is a little odd and they are doing some construction in the back, outside. I would go again and highly recommend this restaurant."

"We discovered Depot when we would take our 90 years+ Mom to lunch around Sonoma County. Depot became a favourite, especially in summer when we could dine in the lovely patio. We always felt we were guests in a friend's country home. We return to Depot for the superior menu, gracious service and the many wonderful memories."
