"We were in Cleveland just overnight and had read good reviews of l'Albatross. We were not disappointed. The food was very good, nicely presented. The service was superb. It seemed all the staff (not just wait staff, but bussers, hots, and water pourers) were there to serve--and always cheerfully. It seemed that they all worked as a team. Our waitress suggested a wine in our price range that was perfect. Another waitress made sure we had enough bread--which was excellent (a sign of a good restaurant in my book). When it started to rain, another waitress moved us inside. We really enjoyed ourselves and now can't wait to go back to Cleveland!"

"And as always, impeccable service. The hostess helped especially in catering to our (varied) seating preferences (which were mostly "inside vs outside" as the evening's weather developed). Great outdoor bar, friendly foodie-type patrons. The wine list is a bit idiosyncratic, but the sommelier recommended some very nice wines based on our dialogue with him.
Our only criticism: the patio was quite dark. Even when the small light bands were added to the umbrella shafts, there was not enough light to read the check without relying on a flashlight app!"

"We thought this would be a new place to try for our anniversary thanks to the reviews we saw on Open Table. What an exciting discovery. THe variety of menu selections including a nice selections of appetizers made it a special evening. The service we received was just as great. THe server was knowledgeable about everything and his recommendation for my entree was perfect."

"First off, hats off to Kim Paradise who took care of all our needs. When she found out that we were having a farewell dinner that consisted of a group of nine people, she seated us in the Wine Room. What a great spot. From the time we entered, everything was perfect. From the cocktails, wine, appetizers, salads, entrees and deserts, nothing could have been better. "My husband and I absolutely loved L'Albatros. The French Toast starter was incredible. Even though my husband dislikes mushrooms, he still very much enjoyed that dish. The almond crusted trout was prepared perfectly with a nice and crisp skin. The dessert menu was one of the best selections I have ever seen offered. What a delicious meal! You will not be disappointed."

"I recently moved back from Dallas to the Cleveland area. Dining at L'Albatros on the patio in June makes the move worthwhile (OK, ask me again in January thru March when the sun disappears from Cleveland). The cassoulet was great. Ditto the french toast. Service was very attentive. The noise level on the patio was very low, so we could easily carry on a conversation. The University Circle area adds to the ambience, and is much more interesting than any neighborhood in Dallas (Highland Park, University Park, the Plano bubble, etc.), even Uptown."

"I took six guests to L'Albatros and we all had a wonderful time. Started with a cheese plate which was swell after their long trip. "We had a delightful late night evening dinner (9:00) and was delighted to see the restaurant bustling. We were hoping for patio seating but the weather did not cooperate. "The food is truly outstanding. Definitely one of the best in Cleveland. Better than Lola. Service matches the food. It impressed our foodie friends from Chicago. On the downside, it is cramped and noisy. Chairs are a hard plastic and not overly comfortable. Those things keep it from being considered romantic or suitable for a special occasion. Patio looked nice but could not be used due to rain. Will definitely go back."

"Our family looks forward to a visit to L'Albatros every time we visit our son at Case Western. What a great place. We come from a bigger, swankier city and the place stands up to the best restaurants here. I would even say it is often better in terms of fresh ingredients and taste as well as friendly Midwest charm. Also, our bill is often about half what we'd expect back in the Northeast. Don't miss the cheese plate appetizer and leave room for deserts (hard to do)."

"Truly outstanding! Our servers were excellent, the food beyond excellent. The roasted cod, the cassoulet, every dish we were served was a treat for the eye and beautifully executed. "L"Albatros was recommended to us by friends who had visited Cleveland. It was a great recommendation. We had a lovely table by the window and it was sunny and bright. The restaurant is very attractive and has great ambience. Our waiter was attentive but not hovering and was very good at describing dishes. I wish I knew his name to recommend him--he was that good. The escargot was the best we have ever eaten as was the arugula salad with lemon juice and parmesan cheese.The creme caramel was also wonderful!! We were not rushed and really enjoyed our evening."

"L'Albatross is a stand-by for me, since I'm on the faculty at CWRU. It's a great restaurant, with good food and good service. The last time I was there the music was *way* too loud, and we couldn't hear ourselves talk, but the management turned it down a bit for us. "This was our first time here. We were seated right away with our 7 pm reservation. First thing I saw is how close tables are to each other, so you can really hear the conversation of others next to you. But this seems to be the case in many independent/non-chain restaurants we've tried; they tend to be more "cozy", so to speak. We ordered a sampling of 5 cheeses, and this was the highlight of our meal. The one serving cheese was very knowledgeable about different cheeses and helped us select a great combination. However, we weren't "wowed" by the other dishes: The roasted artichoke hardly seemed to have a "heart" inside - barely anything to eat in it. I had the roasted cod, my husband got chicken confit. Presentation was nice, taste just ok"

"...but not more than that. First, why anyone has to pay for parking there is beyond me, it's not even valet service. The place was very, very noisy - partly due to some wait staff talking loudly with customers which only increased the noise levels from other tables. The food was good, although nothing so outstanding I would recommend it to friends. The service, from our waiter William, and other wait staff, was outstanding. Nothing was forgotten and we were promptly attended to. Perhaps I will go there again, as it is not at the top of my list."

"Hello Had a divine meal in Cleveland at L'Albatross following a wonderful day at the Art Museum and then over 5 hours at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!! The goat cheese tart and the pork pate were amazing appys...................Salmon over lentils with bechamal sauce.. The service here is impeccable........We can't comment on the desserts as we skipped both dessert and coffee.........This establishment rivals any New York City restaurant for 1/2 the price.
We will be back."

"We had an wonderful lunch! This is the third of Zach's places we've visited, and so far the best! Menu (for lunch) was good - almost TOO much from which to choose, especially for a French inspired restaurant. However, the vegetable cassoulet was amazing! My husband had the salmon - done perfectly. The service was great. Server James was informative and helpful with menu choices - and not at all intrusive. He earned the 20% pourboire we left. We noticed that all the servers seemed to share tasks. It was a nice experience.
Many of the meat offerings included in-bone servings...not certain if it's just our taste, but we'd rather see more petite dishes, sans bones, for lunch. Otherwise, it was a lovely experience."

"My husband and I had one of our first dates at this restaurant when it was called That Place on Bellflower, about 36 years ago, so we made our way back to Cleveland from Philadelphia to celebrate our anniversary and we were treated and celebrated by everyone that we encountered there. The spaces of this former carriage house were wonderfully designed and were lucky enough to have a view of the patio outdoor eating space (too cold to eat outside). The menu is extensive but not overwhelming and our food was delicious, special and yet wonderfully casual. The hangar steak was perfect, the mussels and frites were just delicious and the pork assemblage was unique and delicious as well. Really a top notch experience both food wise and staff wise."

"Well ... my favorite in the City but beside that, the food is consistently the BEST! Always love the Goat Cheese Tart (I order 2-one for immediate and one for breakfast), the Trout was perfect, can't beat the Vegie Pappadelle (sp?0 or the Salmon which is ALWAYS a hit. The only thing is that they don't change up just one new or different item? But then again, why mess with the BEST?"

"Wow -- we celebrated a birthday here the other evening and it was fantastic! Beginning with the French Toast appetizer, through delectable entrees and dessert, this was a memorable meal. I had the Rose Garden drink, a cunning combination of cucumber and rose water liquors -- quite refreshing for summer. Chef Zack Bruel really knows his way around mushrooms, in unique ways -- the reduction sauce with morel mushrooms in the French Toast appetizer was amazing! And did I rave about the service? I have never has such great service at any restaurant in my life! It was a fantastic experience -- we will definitely go back, again and again. I think I have a new favorite restaurant in Cleveland."

"The quality of the food and service at almost all of Zach Bruell's restaurants has consistently declined over the past year. L'Albatros held out for a while, but the food this last time was so uninteresting and the bar service two times ago was so inattentive, that even L'Albatros has now gone the way of Chinato and Table 45, unfortunately."

"We celebrated our wedding anniversary at L'Albatros on a Monday night and the restaurant was buzzing. The service was outstanding and the food delicious as in 5 stars. We can't believe that we've waited 5 years to dine here! We had a wonderful experience all around. I had the salmon and my husband (a vegetarian) had the root vegetable cassoulet - both to die for! We also indulged and shared the lemon tart - awesome! We'll be back as soon as possible!"
