"Hostess informs us our booth request cannot be honored and the only table available was a place she would not want to sit at because it's a high traffic area. Within 5 mins. we are seated at the high traffic table. So much for a reservation request. As for the food, the mussels and crab cake appetizers were delicious. Salads - Caesar, nothing special and seafood, wonderful. Meals - twin lobster tails were requested broiled and arrived fried. My meal was correct but both are quickly whisked away to prepare the right lobster. 20 mins. later, the correct meals arrive and I note it is obvious the surf/turf sat under a heat lamp and the only thing hot was the plate so they offer me some fresh, hot gravy. Not what you expect for $125."

"restaurant was pretty empty, only a few diners and yet it took over an hour to get our food even though we told our waitress that we had theater tickets. We didn't have enough time to try the deserts. The perch was dry and the two who tried it did not like the cornmeal batter. Ther fried lobster was very good as was the house salad...very tasty dressing. Some special requests were met others were not."

"It was a very pleasant experience, our first time there. The food, service and ambiance was a 10. The only complaint is the side dishes, ie the spinach, the oysters rockefeller and vegetables were way too salty. We don't add any salt ever and these were noticeably salty. Fortunately, the entrees were not over salted. Otherwise, we will definitely go back for a special occasion."

"Our server Shawna was great, but that is where great stops. We were seated over 15 minutes late for our reservation. While waiting to be seated we sat at the bar only to find out they don't carry our favorite beer, the second most popular domestic. Also they only had one of the comparable beer bottles left. My fiance' ordered lobster and it was overcooked, needed a knife to cut lobster meat. I had the house specialty, the DMF Clam Bake, it was good, but not great, again it was a bit over cooked. All in all, for a 72.00 bill, I was not wow'd. The server and live piano music saved this dinner."

"Food was great, but the service was horrible. It took 30 minutes to get seated ( we had a resevration and arrived a few minutes early) it was another 30 minutes to place a drink order after we were seated. The waitress apoligized for being out of the wine that we wanted, she apoligized for taking so long to bring the wine after we ordered a different one ( it had to brought up from the basement) and she apoligized for taking so long to serve the food (problems in the kitchen) All in all a disappointing experience. This would not be a restaurant that I would recommend to friends."

"My husband and I went for Valentine's Day. Pros: We loved the romantic music--alternating live piano and cd. The wine list was amazing. They give out huge glasses and I had the best Riesling I've ever had in my life. I then ordered oysters rockefeller which was great. My husband ordered a Ceasar salad which was huge.My husband then ordered a steak and french fries. Both were okay. I ordered a side lobster tail which was good and then the whitefish. Cons: I typically order whitefish because it's not too fishy, but this fish was verrrry fishy.My husband asked for A-1 sauce and we were told they were out.Also, it took forever for our service in between courses and even to get our check."

"My reservation was changed from 7:30pm to 8:00pm which was not a huge deal. I enjoyed a delicious drink at the bar-kudos to the bartender for making my drink just right! The coconut shrimp and stuffed salmon were excellent. However, my waitress was a disaster. She took our order and never came back. My salad never came. I was going to get another drink-I didn't because my waitress never returned to ask me if I wanted another. My husband's steak was well done-He ordered it medium. I had more interaction with the busser than with my waitress. I would not return on a busy Saturday night ever again because it appears the wait staff cannot handle their tables. I deeply regret leaving her a tip!"

"Amazing restaurant.Excellent Service..My date and I arrived a hour earlier for our reservation on Valentine Day, and without delay we were seated. Upon being seated in comfy corner booth that looked unto the street we were introduced to the waiter. She was exceptional, always suggesting tasty delights. There were no cocktail menu at the table,but she was more then willing to locate one. The drink are priced just right for a martini,but on the expensive side for a well drink. While waiting for the drinks,delicious,warm bread with garlic butter arrived (so good we had three more baskets). Appetizers were moderately priced. Dinner was cooked to perfection and came out promptly. We finished with 3 desserts for $12. Never felt rushed,staying 3hr"

"We had a very nice dinner there. The restaurant is very nice, well decorated and quaint. They have high booths throughouth the restaurant, which keeps noise to a minimum. The food was very good and well prepared and the service was good. The only disappointment was that they were out of all of their beef, so ordering surf and turf (which was on their menu) was not possible.

For out of towners - don't rely on Detroit taxis - the service it TERRIBLE. The restaurant called different companies multiple times for us, but none came. We ended up walking two blocks in the cold before we found a cab to flag down."

"I made reservations and was not seated until an hour after my reservations. The drinks I ordered were not good had to go to the lounge. The wait staff did not check on us at our table. Our mashed potatoes were cold. The only thing good I can say is it is a romantic atomsphere. This will be my very last choice when dining in downtown detroit"

"We went there on Friday to celebrate Valentine's day. Unfortunately, our choice of tables included a 2-top in the middle of a busy pathway, or another 2-top with one chair next to the kitchen. We chose the table with the chair closest to the kitchen since we were denied a chance to sit at one of the available very nice semi-private booths. The service was slow and non-responsive. The person who filled our water glass was more attentive and had more personality than our waiter. We split a salad which was delicious. I then had the sea bass pan-asian style, and my date had salmon. The fish was cooked fine, but the side of rice with mine and the "mixed vegetables" (which were primarily green and red peppers) left much to be desired."

"We were looking for a good seafood restaurant in downtown Detroit and came across this one on the web. It was better than I had expected. The decor inside is really sheik and edgy, and the service was great. We had a really great server that made our dining experience great. The food was unbelievably good, from the bread, to the salad, to the meal, and best of all the homemade dessert. I highly recommmend it to any seafood lovers. Best of all was the price list, very moderately priced for such a classy restaurant. I give it an A hands down."

"My experience was most enjoyable. Parking is easy. My reservation was cancelled due to be held up at customs. And you were very accomodating getting us seated although I had originally wanted a window seat. The wayresss ":Z' was just the right amount of knowledge and charm and knew when to leave us alone. I was not impressed with your bucket. Your competition's bucket is more bountiful. The Catfish was on the contrary well done. You should try a grilled Calamari in my mind. I have also attended twice to be abale to visit the lounge and both times been turned away. The last time was a Hatian fundraiser. It would have been handy knowing this at the time of my reservation."

"I booked this resturant for a 1st date. It was a great resturant. I arrived exactly at 7:30 pm, the time my reservations was for, and the Hostess me us at the door. She called me by name (which is great when you go to a resturant). The service was prompt, the food was great, and there wasnt any feeling of being rushed. As I was writing this, I thought about going back there, but I just might have to wait until until my 2nd date, which is tommorrow."

"This was our first time at The Detroit Fish Market and we were celebrating a 16th Birthday. We were a party of four and we each ordered a different appetizer and different meal. All of the food was reasonably priced and excellent! The service is top-notch. Although there was a large loud group near-by, I would expect that this would not be the norm. Enjoyed the very large private booths. We will be back soon for more seafood!"

"Took a friend and her son there. The food was excellent, as always. The service was excellent. A very enjoyable experience. My only critical comment is that my french fries weren't hot when they arrived at my table. However the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. The artichoke, spinach and crab appetizer was fantastic! The amount of food you get is just right. We weren't hungry when we left. If you haven't been, you must go."

"My three friends and I were there to celebrate a birthday. Everything was wonderful, the service, food, etc. The presentation of the food was also quite impressive. The catfish appetizer was great, and of course the Fried Lobster tail was exquisite!!. My friend was even given a surprise birthday cake without my having to ask. Now that was impressive! The experience was even more special because it's the restaurant she selected for dinner as she'd never dined there. It was my 4th time and I've been pleased every time."

"The food was wonderful! We both had the fried lobster. Also had the artichoke/spinach dip. It was also excellent. The only problem was the service. The place was packed and maybe they didn't have sufficient wait staff. Had to wait a long time between ordering drinks and ordering dinner. Had to ask for bread. Had to ask to have water glass refilled. Had to ask to see the dessert menu. These things don't happen in good restaurants. If there were specials, he never shared that with us. The food is not cheap. The service provided should be commensurate with the quality of the food. I think our waiter needs more training. He was nice, not just very skilled at the level expected for fine dining."

"I have both read and heard about Detroit Fish Market for some time. I decided to treat a friend for lunch and we both were very pleased with everything. Our food orders were delicious, she had the Shrimp&Cheese sandwich, I had the Maryland Crab cakes YUM, YUM!!!
I will certainly make several return vists. The Service was outstanding. Thank you Detroit Fish Market for providing an excellent place to dine!"

"My luncheon was to treat my Mother-in-Law for a special lunch. The food was excellent, but our service was a little slow. Our reservation was for at 12:15pm, in which we arrived on time, but was not finished until 2:30pm. I wasn't expecting lunch to be that long. All in all everything was fine."

"we ordered the shrimp and calamari and the catfish and lobster dinners. we also ordered gumbo soup and clam chowder. the gumbo soup was fabulous. the clam chowder was bland. the dinners were fried in some kind of unfamiliar oil. the taste of it was very greasy and had a funny aftertaste. well that spoiled the whole dinner for me."

"This restaurant reminds me of McCormick and Schmick's, especially in the style of menu, seafood offerings, and style of service. But don't be fooled--the food is not nearly as good. The fish tended to be overcooked and, for the price, it just wasn't worth it. I truly expected the Lobster mac and cheese to be something out of this world. Instead, it look and tasted like something I would make with my 5 year-old nephew. Overall ambiance was great and I enjoyed the wine, this restaurant is a poor value for the money. You'd do better buying fresh fish and preparing it to your taste at home."
