Aquitaine Bis brings Paris and one of Boston's favorite Bistros to the suburbs. Executive Chef Seth Woods' seasonal menu feature all the favorites and traditions of Aquitaine - Bar à Vin Bistrot in the South End along with new items created specifically for the Newton location.

"I had a beet salad and my guest had a salad Nicoise. The beet salad was okay but boring and much too slight for a meal-size salad. The salad Nicoise was a meal, but the dressing was off and my guest was anxious to get some sherbet right away in order to get the sour taste out of her mouth. The service was good."

"This was our first time at this location. Usually we go to the one in the South End. I have to say, that if I have the choice I'll go to Chestnut Hill. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The tables are well spaced so that you don't feel like you are eaves dropping on the adjacent table. The menu selections were very enticing. A lovely time was had by all."

"Aquitane's (Chestnut Hill section of Newton, MA, on Route 9 eastbound) is delicious and festive, both for special occasions or for making an ordinary night festive. Lemon sole, grilled hangar steak, & 'frites' (gourmet French fries) were particularly delicious choices. A friend's Escargots arrived bubbling cheerfully in a lovely garlic butter. Great beet salad & Brussels sprouts, too. Newly reopened lux movie theatre is walking distance too, creating a fun playdate. Restaurant also less than a mile from Chestnut Hill Mall (Bloomingdales, Crate & Barrel, etc.) Two red flags though: Probably need reservation for Aquitane's, & it is a spendy treat."

"Great food. Waitress had no information about 2 entrees--said it was new menu. Red wines by glass limited. Meritage was spoiled-gone to vinegar. So the beverage staff could do a better job with quality control. I assume the bottle had been open too long. Good is usually excellent but the ambience and service is less exciting."

"I had chicken w/ sausage and vegetables. The vegetables were done perfectly! Turnips, peas, lots of carrots. The sausage and the sauce were perfect spicing complements to the chicken and vegetables. I asked for a pairing from my waiter. He recommended a pinot grigio. At first taste, it seemed odd, but with the food, it was perfect. Waiter was experienced, attentive, fun, and not condescending or solicitous. The ambiance felt friendly and European. Looking forward to the next visit."

"Food is well prepared and authentc. Service on our evening visits has been quite good but we had a hic up with it at lunch the other day. The Manager personally took the time to explain to us that she was unexpectedly short handed and assured us that she was sorry,it wouldn't happen again and she then allowed a reasonable credit to make up for the inconvenience."

"25th anniversary dinner. I have to say that we had a less than wonderful experience. For whatever reason, our entrees just didn't come. We waited. Our waitress said they would be out soon. The hostess came over and apologized, and said they were coming right out. And we waited some more. We had been seated for at least an hour when they arrived, and my dish had clearly been sitting around for quite a while. It was cold and the risotto was gummy. The other two entrees were good. At that point, our waitress became totally apologetic and brought us wine and dessert. They comped the entire meal, which we didn't expect. It was a very nice gesture, but the night was pretty much of a disaster."

"The food was amazing.
However, when we arrived, the couple next to us were audibly complaining about how long it took them to get their check - well over half an hour. So, imagine my surprise when after our table received the check, with my parents (visiting from DC) were approached by the host, Eric, and asked if everything were fine, and, as they were "getting backed up", if we minded hurrying up and leaving (paraphrased). We had been considering going here for a rehearsal dinner in October of this year - we will not be dining at Aquitaine Bis for the rehearsal dinner, or ever again.
One point in favor - Taylor C., the manager, was profusely apologetic, and emailed me before I got home, apologizing again."

"This restaurant is our favorite spot for brunch. The prices are decent and the food delicious! The service has always been great. However, this past Sunday (yes, it was mother's day) the service from our waiter was non-existent. He came to take our order and we never saw him again until he gave us the check. He would check on the tables to either side of us but never even glanced our way. Another waiter, in addition to serving her own tables, waited on us. She brought us our food, refilled our coffee and brought us our missing maple syrup for the french toast. Even the bus boy gave us more service then our actual waiter. He refilled our waters and coffees. We will be returning but will be asking for a specific, more attentive waiter."

"very unpleasant experience. The waiter broke the water glass when bringing food to my son. Broken glass everywhere yet no manager came to apologize. The waitress was not focused. She asked me twice what I would like with my coffee though I made it clear at the very beginning. She promised to refill my coffee soon when saw the empty cup but did not until I asked for check. She was about to bring steak knife to us only found out should be to next table. The food was not hot neither flavorful. It was better last time."

"The waitress was not ttentive. The food took an inordinate amount of time to come out. Once it came out, three of our four meals were lukewarm in temperature. Bill was also incorrect. Wait staff did not offer any explanation for the poor service and exceptionally long wait for the food.
When we have eaten at the Dedham location, we have had excellent service and food. We would never go back to the Chestnut Hill location."

"The food is pretty good. I was there for the restaurant week. I had the braised brandt beef cheek which was very good. It was very tender, it fall off my fork. I had the braised beef short ribs which was also good. I wish that I had the fish dish because I had a lot of beef dishes. The chocolate mousse was very good but there was not enough espresso in the espresso cake. Needed more ice cream for the dish."

"I had a nice lunch at Aquitaine during restaurant week. The salad with nuts and goat cheese was a nice way to start, and a great complement to the gnocchi with mushrooms which was excellent, rich and flavorful.
We had to go back to work, so could not partake in the glass of wine, and we were disappointed that they charged us for the non alcoholic drinks we ordered in lieu of the wine. When we asked about it when the bill came, the waitress said they can't substitute the restaurant week menu. This isn't very supportive of folks who come in for lunch who work."

"I have always been happy with a evening here.
This was an off experience.
We had to wait for our reserved table for 17 min. I understand that can happen anywhere.
In general, our server was just not interested in serving us. We went over the menu. She let us know what they had run out of as we ordered. Apps took 40 min to hit our table. The always yummy beet salad was tasteless. Maybe they ran out of the 'good' goat cheese.
The drinks were the highlight. Great martini. Food was all 'just ok'. Had to ask server to take out credit card so we could get home.
This restaurant is just a mile from my house and Im not sure it was worth the drive."

"We have been dining here off and on for years, but this visit was truly disappointing. Our waiter was MIA most of the evening. We had to ask for bread and were told it was in the oven, a faux pas at a French bistro where they should never let the baguettes run down to zero! We were surprised to see a Restaurant Week menu on at Sat. Night, but it looked good so we ordered. My beef short ribs looked like a brick, were lacking in flavor and the petit root vegetables were undercooked. My husband's fish was better. We're thinking the waitstaff is turning over compared to past dinners there."

"The newly revamped menu seemed to offer fewer choices of main courses (no duck, for instance), but the quality was high. Steak frites au poivre was excellent, veal schnitzel was good. Soupe a l'oignon was tasty but could have been hotter; it had probably been baked before the order was placed. The decor and atmosphere are very reminiscent of a Paris bistro. The wine list has several good choices for less than $40."
