The Grill at Hacienda del Sol
The Grill at Hacienda del Sol is one of Arizona's top restaurants located in a beautiful setting at the base of Tucson's Catalina Foothills. Breathtaking mountain and city views are captured from The Grill's dining room where you will be treated to "Spirited Southwestern Hospitality" and a remarkable menu featuring local ingredients from the resort's own organic gardens, local purveyors, and growers. The Grill's wine list, with over 1000 selections, was twice bestowed "The Award of Ultimate Distinction" by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and has been awarded the "Best Of Award of Excellence" from Wine Spectator for 16 consecutive years. Service is efficient yet relaxed and the atmosphere is comfortable with no dress code. "The 3 course special dinner offered during "Restaurant Week" made The Grill very affordable. Normally the food is pricey because it's excellent. We were thrilled to be able to sample a simple but very special salad with figs and soft cheese, a choice of 2 fabulous entrees - my husband chose the snapper and I chose the chicken and waffles (both yummy and surprisingly generous portions), and a choice of 2 elegant desserts. They also gave us 2 fun surprises: a beet and starfruit appetizer and chili chocolate truffles in little boxes to take home. I must also mention that they sat us by the window looking out on the spectacular Santa Catalina mountains. I would be happy to return."

"We sold our house back east and my husband said to make reservations where ever I wanted! I made them at Hacienda del Sol. I love the old world charm! It's authentic, elegant and perfect! The classical guitarist was the frosting on the cake! I just wish we would have had a table at the window on the mountain view side. The food was excellent, as was the service! We will return!"

"I called ahead and inquired about the brunch. The lady I spoke with told me that Sunday Brunch was 30 a person. It's actually 40. And she said they had unlimited Bloody Mary and Mimosas. It's only mimosas. The food had been sitting out for what seemed too long, especially for 40 a person."

"The great views started at the parking lot and continued thru dinner. Greeted at the door with friendly smiles that also continued thru dinner. Although it was our first visit the feeling was like we 'always' dine here. The lamb and fillet were cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. I've seen a few wine lists but I have never seen such an extensive . . book ! Although we were among many diners it was very quiet I assume the beautiful sunset, from our table, was a regular part of the fare."

"I absolutely loved this place. We were celebrating Mother's Day and it was fantastic. I am in love with the ambience. The food was great. The staff, welcoming and friendly. All this of course comes with a price but it was worth it. Our wait staff seemed a bit new but the overall experience makes up for that. Whenever we are in Tucson we will dine there."

"The setting of The Grill is beautiful, but I would come back for the food. Each item was imaginative and well presented. I loved the flavors of the Beets and House-made Mozzarella and the Lobster Bisque was rich and full bodied. I tried the Chicken and Waffles because it sounded so unusual. The chicken was perfectly cooked with a crisp crust and the waffle and dates added a well balanced bit of sweet to the savory. The wine steward was easy to talk to and very helpful. After this meal I can't wait to return and try something else!"

"My husband and I went to The Grill at Hacienda del Sol and were very disappointed. We asked to see a wine list and we were handed a book with hundreds of bottles. There was no offer to help us select anything or answer questions. My husband asked if there was anything we should know about the menu. His answer was simply, "No." Really? Many servers at less expensive chain restaurants do a better job explaining the menu and trying to sell the food. He had the short ribs and I ordered the ribeye cooked medium rare. His short ribs tasted okay, but were barely warm in the middle. The steak was cooked medium well and was tough with a lot of fat. I am not even sure it was a ribeye. I would never return to this place."

"The location is charming, the grounds impeccable, the view terrific. And the food . . . it's very solid but the menu feels like it could use modernizing. It's basically a 2-course menu of soup/salad + entree. One could, however, have a salad and then a hot starter (like the stellar scallops dish I had) before getting an entree but the menu offers no inventive appetizers to share or snack on over drinks. The entrees we had were all very well executed: a juicy pork chop, a nice filet, meltingly good spare ribs. Sides were a little muddled but not bad. Desserts were very good. So it's not the top of the mark in Tucson dining but I'd go whenever I can for the ambiance and the decent cuisine."

"Excellent Service from the time we walked in for our reservation. Our waiter Jay, was engaging, knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection as well as fun and courteous.
Enjoyed our dinner table as we were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary, very nice.
The only food that did not met our expectation was the salad which was not crisp, more like a salad that has sat out or isn't prepared fresh. I had a bad experience the time before at the grill and sent two written notice about the poor service and never received an acknowledgement. You have redeemed your stature for great food, service and ambiance!!"

"This was a wonderful experience from the moment we stepped out of the car. Walking up to the Dining Room from the parking lot, smelling the aroma of the newly blossomed jasmine, the beauty of the courtyard was exquisite and made the 5 minute wait for our table a joy. Inside, we were treated with care and full accommodation. I am not a wine connoisseur but had a particular taste I wanted in a wine. The wine staff was so helpful in recommending a bottle and describing differences in layman's terms. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was calm, intimate, and lovely. I highly recommend it!"

"Wow, what a downgrade from our visits in 2011 and 2012. This year both service and food qualities have deteriorated significantly. The service was quite impersonal, and the food was definately not distinguished from many other restaurants. This is no longer a stand-out restaurant. I will not be returning, as there are other places with notably good food and service. It's too bad, because we really enjoyed this place in the past. But the past is the past."

"It was just OK. This was the Easter Brunch and our expectations were high. We expected a large offering of very good dishes. The offering was OK, however for a bruch, there was not even scramled eggs. There was an Omlette and waffle bar, again they were OK. THere were a few salads that were Ok or better, and a few deserts that were OK. The main dishes, sounded and looked exciting, however they lacked flavor. We have been to this resturant on numerous occasions over the past 20 years and always enjoyed it. This is why we chose Easter Brunch. It was a let down, we will not go back."

"We're staying at the Hacienda and have eaten dinner at the Grill and at the casual restaurant, and also had breakfast here twice. The Grill dinner was very good and I would go back here again if we weren't trying to go to different Tucson restaurants. I had the bass, and my husband had the carrot soup and scallops. Another couple had chicken and something else, but they enjoyed what they had. The waiter was gracious when I returned a wine wine I didn't like and the substitution was much better. Breakfast was another story. The service was awful. They were understaffed to handle a rush of people. The buffalo chorizo was bland, none of the usual chorizo flavor."

"Outstanding brunch . . . simply outstanding, and well worth the price. I couldn't even make it to the carving station, and omelet and waffle bar. I couldn't get passed the salad and side entree stations. Forget about the dessert station. It ain't happening unless I stop eating for a week."

"Excellent food, The short ribs were moist, tasty and perfectly done in addition to being presented beautifully. The duck crepes were delicious, and the fish perfectly grilled. Service was attentive without being cloying; the sound level quiet so conversation between four people was easy. Sunset and mt. views thru the huge windows; every seat had a spectacular view. Truly a five Star experience. Well worth the cost, especially for a special occasion. We had informed the restaurant our LA friends were celebrating their 30th anniversary; they were greeted by the receptionist with congratulations, and their dessert plate came with Happy Anniversary written beautifully in chocolate, which my friend loved!"

"The chef has apparently lost control of the kitchen and allows dishes to go out which never should. My pasta was the worst ever anywhere. It had obviously been cooked & allowed to stand for some time making it matted & rubbery. It was more like trying to eat rubber bands. The waiter said he would tell the chef - we never saw him again. A diner on another table had the same problem. Some dishes were great but you do not want to take a chance on what the chef is going to serve up. This could be a great restaurant but it is not at the moment. Eat elsewhere."
