Bull and Bear's Wine Library is a private, intimate dining room adjacent to the bar that is perfect for special occasions and business dinners.
"First by mistake we walked into the side door of the restaurant and walked through a vibrant restaurant scene that we were looking forward to joining but instead were seated in some super quite room off the side of the bar. Us and one other table that you could hear a pin drop. Bread was biscuits which is unique though not a fan of biscuits, super filling and very dry. Glad they did not offer any more----but no offer? For apps, had tuna tartare and they had stale crisps with them and very very dry. Wife's ceasar salad was swimming in dressing making it almost uneatable which she ate 1/3 of it. Entrees were good and bread pudding desert was OK. Server was good when he was there but left us hanging for long periods of time."

"We got married at the City Hall this Friday and mentioned that when we made reservations for that night at the Bull and Bear Steakhouse. We were definitely not expecting the amazing treatment that we received! Everyone was extremely nice, we got the perfect table, champagne and an iced shellfish platter on the house, and the manager, Mr. Pappas, came by to say hi and congratulate us.
The food was really, really good and the place is perfect for romantic dinners and special occasions. Vintage charm, elegant restaurant PLUS great steak.. what more can you ask for?!"

"This will be our last visit to B&B. The prices have gone out of sight. $21 for a Martini plus $7 for club soda. I know it's NYC but if i pay $21 for a drink which is vert high I don't expect to again pay $14 for 2 club sodas to chase it!!"

"We went for a birthday celebration and the entire experience was first class from start to end. They truly went out of their way to make it a wonderful evening. The food is delicious and the wines impressive. It's a NYC classic that's not to be missed!"

"Great service and food. A little more expensive than we are used to paying but worth it. We were celebrating our anniversary and they treated us as such."

"I was not impressed with the food. It wasn't bad, but it was NOT great. Much too over priced for the quality. Coffee was horrible. I have had better at a less expensive place."

"Great Ambiance and very good service. Food was also excellent. And the restaurant, of course, is steeped in nostalgia. A great place to go for a relaxing, non-trendy, yet upscale dining experience."

"The steak and broccoli were superb, the lobster was OK, the wines were very good, and the service was among the best I have ever experienced. The Waldorf salad was very good, but side-order sized. The dark woods and low lighting created a masculine, yet intimate ambiance. Great for a power dinner (or lunch, I suppose). Make sure you also wander through the main lobby of the Waldorf."

"Staff were unable to deliver our meal as ordered even after a second attempt. I expected much better from a 1st class rest. on special occasion with my daughter.
We ordered two steaks filet and sirloin. The filet medium (we insisted on "pink not red" and the sirloin medium rare. The filet came to the table blue and the strip loin was overcooked to medium well. When we advised staff they ensured we would receive what we ordered in a timely fashion. The same steaks were returned to the table including the pieces we had sliced to determined appropriate cooking at the first serving!
While the filet was improved the strip loin was further cooked to well done. $200 wated in my opinion.
We left for theater disappointed."

"The atmosphere was relaxed, but elegant. It was the perfect place for a special birthday celebration. The service was nothing less than outstanding. But, what really set the Bull & Bear Steakhouse apart from the rest was the food...it was phenomenal!! We will definitely be returning."

"Excellent steaks. Service that does NOT rush you out the door...far too common in NYC these days!!! Service was very professional. The bar area is amazing. The tables for dinner were a bit close together but that is a NYC hazzard but not as bad as some. The room has enough sound deadening to where you can have a converation at normal seaking voice.
Prices are a bit high, even for NYC.
For the prodessional service, food quality and noise level I will be back again."

"The tuna tatare was delicious. The dover sole was dry and disappointing. Both creamed spinach and onion rings were "lack-luster". All in all not worthy of grand hotel dining..."

"One of our favorite places. The food is consistantly good. My husband misses the potatoes you used to have in a cast iron skillet. He mentions it every time we eat there. Very good."

"The steaks were ok, but the rest of the meal was very good. It was a crowded night and a little loud, but what you would expect given the location in the Waldorf Astoria."

"Way too overpriced. I know you are going to pay a premium at a place like this, but as an example for a glass of wine that was not heavily poured, I paid nearly double what you could buy a bottle of it for in a store. The service was adequate, but not special. As an example when we asked about some of the sauces the answer was along the lines of most people get this rather than a description of the flavor or a comparison to something we might be more familiar with. Similarly the food wasn't notable, other than the Waldorf Salad, which was very good. I'm not an expert, but it seemed my steak was cooked too quickly. The ambiance was upscale. I would suggests entering from the hotel side as when you walk down the stairs it's a great view."

"The steak & lamb chops were delicious. The salads & sides were not up to New York steakhouse quality. The service was spotty at best. We had to remind them that we wanted to order drinks. They could not remember that we had bottled not pitcher water & they were extremely unattentive. It is a physically attractive restaurant and very convenient if you are attending a function at the Waldorf."

"Nice restaurant but extremely overpriced. Ala carte steakhouse (typical these days): lowest price entree is over $50, $15 - $20 for salads and sides. Cocktails were $20. 99% bottles of wine over $100. So, a 2 person dinner was $300, for nothing better than a regular steakhouse. You must be paying to be inside the Waldorf.
Strangely, they present the menus 20 minutes after you're seated, probably so you don't see the prices until it's too late to run.
If any one thing had been stellar MAYBE they could justify these prices, but I think the prices are for people who can't walk out of the hotel. DON'T make this a destination if you live in the city. You can get 10 times the meal at a Ruth's Chris for 1/2 the price."
