"Fantastic meal and service. It was my boyfriends first time and he loved it. The food was pretty good, only complaint is that my steak was slightly undercooked for what i had asked for. however overall it was a great expereince and everything was perfect other than my minor complaint. We will definitely be back!"

"The dining experience was absolutely brilliant. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and we could not have picked a better place to do it. Understanding that we would be spending a lot of money, as the restaurant is pricey, we went with the thought of celebrating and they made it worth while every step of the way. The food was wonderful and the service was just as terriffic. If you are looking for romantic settings, and spectacular views of the city--look no further! This restaurant is top of it's class in every way! I have not experienced a richer dining experience."

"We were greeted as we stepped off the eleveator by Amy, who checked our reservations & confirmed special req. we had made on "OpenTable.com. She sat us facing south at a "window" two top as reqstd. Then our server Patty greeted us. After the pleasantries & specials, her next question was, (paraphrased) "are you going to a show or event tonight working with a time frame, or are you enjoying a wonderful meal & sights tonight?" We were just enjoying the night. Several others were served quickly enough to make their events. Pattys attentnion to detail & caring nature did not seem as though anyone felt rushed but all seem more that satisfied with the service & the food.Patty & the Hyatt staff made us comfortable & we had a WONDERFUL EVENING"

"My husband and I dined at The Compass and it was our first time in Phoenix. We really enjoyed the panoramic views of the city and the plaques that tell you about the architecture and sites as you go around. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We would definitely dine there again when we return to Phoenix and would recommend it to anyone who wants delicious food while getting a beautiful view of the city. We dined just before sunset, which I would recommend, because we got to see views of the city in the sunlight and got to see the lights at night."

"There were 4 of us; 2 who had not dined at Compass before. Our service was outstanding! Our waitress checked with us on our time constraints (yes, we had show tickets for that
evening, and she made sure we didn't have to rush), did a great job of describing/ recommending wine and entrees, and took very good care of us. The 4 of us had one of the soups, 2 different salads, 4 different entrees and 6 different side dishes, and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we tried! We loved the fact that we could pick and choose our own sauces and side dishes. This restaurant is much more than a great view, and not outlandishly priced!"

"It was great! Waitress were very friendly and their hospitality was beyond and above! It was a great spot to dine. I had a little bit hard time finding a parking lot, but thank God they had valet service! Only one suggesstion that i have for the restaurant is it would be nicer if they had more variety choices of dishes! it seem to me it was limited! But that didn't stop me finding my favorite dish in the world...lol Steak and my girl had salmon fish. Anyways, thank you very much for the reservation.Thanks!!!!!!"

"I went here on the weekend with my girlfriend. It took us 1-1/2hrs to receive our meal and I ordered my steak medium rare; however, it was delivered well done. The meat quality was not even good to begin with. In the past I had dined at Skys in Kansas City which is also located above the Hyatt; it is basically the same restraunt with a different name. I had booked dinner at Compass because Skys had one the the best steaks I had ever eatin, assuming it would be similar. The steak I received at Compass was the second worst in my life, and I really wanted to send it back, but I was worried it would take forever to get another one. The service was terrible and overall it was a bad experience. If you dont care about the meal, the view is nice."

"The restaurant was ok but the decor was a little dated. The view is awesome. The food portions were small and the menu overpriced. I left hungry even though I spent $160.00 for two. A good steakhouse beats this everyday. I will not be going back. I dont recommend this place to others either."

"I knew the restaurant would be expensive, but was suprised the portions were so small. $6.00 for a cake desert came with a shot glass of ice cream and a small 2" piece of cake... which was dry. My wife and I spent $120.00 on two steak dinners. We both could have ate at Outback (which I beleive has a better tasting steak) for $40.00. I was a little upset at the food cost and taste."

"We had been excited to go to the Compass Room for a long time. My girl and I are foodies and we had heard the Compass Room was worth a try. Our feeling after dinner was that the view was as great as we expected. Amazing. The food was good/ok. Smoked Salmon appetizer was amazing. The pork and scallops we just ok. We enjoyed to Portobello mushrooms. The food alone would probably not be enough to bring me back anytime in the near future but not bad either. The service was a bit of a let down for a such nice place. Our server seemed flustered or too busy (although the restaurant was not full). He was also not attentive to our alcoholic drinks. All in all, the food was not enough to save the service but the view is enough to bring me back."

"The Compass Restaurant has beautiful city views, but unfortunately, no sunset views. They are all blocked by surrouonding taller buildings. Parking was easy as the hotel has a valet service.
The food was expensive and my dinner companion asked for a medium well steak, and it was way overdone. The dessert menu left something to be desired.
I think I would return for the Sunday brunch, but probably not for dinner."

"I thought the on-line reservation process was weak. The food was okay. My guests had scallops which they liked; I had the prime rib which was hum-drum. "My girlfriend said she would like to dress up and go to a romantic resturant with a view. The Compass was my first thought even though I'd never been before. What an awesome place. The view was the best in the valley, the service was top of the line, the food, Atlantic Salmon and New York Steak, was great, and the bill was expensive but expected. "I made reservations for my boyfriend’s birthday. We were seated in the lounge area by a window. Our table felt like we were at a picnic bench and the seats were VERY uncomfortable (made of metal). The table was very small and the seats were super uncomfortable. We realized something was wrong when people were escorted to other tables when they were “ready.” We definitely were unhappy to discover that the rest of the restaurant had comfy couches, wood tables, and chairs. "I usually expect excellent service at the Compass, but not this time. Reservation was for 6:00 PM. We arrived at 5:50 but not seated until 6:15 and there was only two couples ahead of us and many open tables. No reason was given for the delay or an apology. I explained to the waiter we needed to finish dinner by 7:15 at the latest to make curtain time at theatre. That didn't seem to do any good. We waited 25 minutes to get the salid and got the entree at 7:00PM. Although the food was good, we had to rush through it so it was not enjoyable. I can understand that sometimes unavoidable things happen, but I left with the impression that they really did not care about their customer's experience and that is inexcusable for the Compass."

"The NY strip steak was served cold and the steak itself was dry. My wife had the Colorado lamp chops which was also quite dry and cold. The service was good, and the view was excellent. I would only recommend this resturant for the view and not the food. We visited this resturant on Sunday evening and there was no excuse for the food being cold and dry as the resturant was not crowded."

"We had a lovely time at the Compass. It was my mother's 70 birthday and all of the staff acknowledge this milestone. When we arrived the hostess relayed her birthday wishes when we arrived and made us feel very welcome. Our table was a bit large for a group of four and it was a little awkward to talk to one another because of this. The food was excellent, espcially the pork chops. The cream spinich was also very good. The cream was on the side so you could put as much or as little cream on the spinich to taste, or diet. Of course the city view was outstanding. We would have liked to stay longer but we had a commitment at the symphony. Allow for at least two hours for a relaxing dinner to avoid the rush. Overall, a good experience."

"We really enjoyed our recent visit to the Compass Room. It was my wife's birthday and the ambiance was wonderful. I haven't been there often but unfortunately, I have noticed the scene has become much more casual over the years. Too bad. Business casual has become jeans and a collared shirt. I'd still prefer something more upscale. The service was outstanding and I really appreciated how the staff treated us. I had let the restaurant know ahead of time of the occasion and when we checked with the matri d' she greeted my wife with "Happy Birthday". Even our server came right up and greeted my wife similarly as soon as we were seated. I had arranged for flowers and they were delivered to the table too. Wonderful."

"We visited Compass Dinning Room for the last 20 years of our marriage, almost all of our aniversaries and birthdays were dine here; however, this time we came for our brother's birthday, we were quite disappointed. We have been bragging about the food to our brother (who is also a chef) but much to our surprise, food were not to our expectation. Perhaps, it was just an isolated event. We really like the atmosphere, the ambience, the service. Overall, we were OK this time, also for the first time, I have left over. Oh by the way, the gin and tonic was not that great as it was usually taste. We were just wondering why was such a change."

"I found the dinner very pleasant and relaxing with good food when I found I wasn't a fan of lamb even after eating 1/2 of it our waitress offered to get me prime rib I was already full from the rest of dinner so when the bill came she didn't charge me for the lamb I thought that was over and above. "The service this visit was very poor. We asked for additional bread for the table however none was delivered. It took three times before someone brought us more. Additionally, simple items like refilling the iced tea or coffee were a major issue. We had to ask multiple times. A waiter passed our table three times with a pitcher of tea, but did not stop to fill my glass. He was also the one who did not bring the additional bread either. The table at which we were seated was a long table, apparently made for more people. I could not carry on a conversation with the person at the other end because of the distance. A table for four would have been better. At the end of the evening,I was very disappointed in the service and setting."

"I will never be dining at this restaurant again. I can get better service at Chick-Fil-a. We were promptly greeted by the hostess and asked about our reservation. It was my birthday so I was wished a happy birthday and we were brought to our table. She wrote on the card for the server that it was a birthday dinner. It was all down hill. We sat for an extremely long time before being greeted then it took just as long to get a water and a diet coke to the table. That would also be the last time she got a refill on her beverage all night. The food came out, my was over cooked steak but by the time they came back to ask she was already finished with her dinner and me the sides. They never did anything for my b-day. Will never go back EVER!!"

"I go here at least once a year. This year it was for a romantic Christmas dinner. It was so much fun, we both enjoyed ourselves. Can't wait to go again.

"Our server and staff were excellent and very attentive. Food presentation was very good and the food itself was prepared to order. Thought the wine list was "a "liitle pricey" as far as some of the vineyards were concerned (buy direct from some of them). Having been there in the past, noticed that the decor had been refurbished and is nicely done.

"We've always enjoyed our visits here, and the most recent was quite possibly the best yet. My veal chop was excellent, as was my date's duck. Likewise the appetizers, salads and desserts. The menu changes every few months, with a few enduring favorites and an interesting assortment of new stuff. If you dine after dark, bring a small flashlight (or borrow one from the server) to read the menu by. The recent remodel looks great, but the interior lighting is dim so as not to detract from the outside view. If it's still light out, bring sunglasses, because you're likely to catch the setting sun at some point. Either way, expect a great meal, friendly (but not smarmy) service, and a super view. Even the elevator ride is fun."

"The prices were VERY HIGH for the amount of food served. We will probably not go back but it was a FUN experience for our three guests from Japan! The view was WONDERFUL!!
