"Although noted for their tapas menu, the four course chef's tasting is a good value, even though they have raised the price to $48 w/out the wine pairings. Unlike many other chef tastings we have done, we did not leave hungry. Wine pairings were very interesting. One of the best restaurants in St. Augustine.
Contrary to some prior posts, we did not find the service to be particularly slow, although it was a Sunday night and the restaurant was busy but not crowded."

"The restaurant has such good reviews I was surprised that it wasn't all it let on to be. From the get go we were initially impressed with the quaint location, the casual, relaxing atmosphere. The musician in the corner was pretty good. It felt like listening to a CD rather that a wannabe rock star. The waitress perhaps was having an off day but outside of the verbal niceties she was very cold and emotionless. Not even a smile throughout the meal. When we used an unused chair to prop my sons feet up as he was napping in his stroller she grabbed the chair away abruptly to give us water and awoke out little guy. The food was fair at best. The ceviche was good enough: just enough acid and sweetness, the lamb average and decently cooked."

"The three star rating isn't so much for being bad, just not better than good
The food was decent, not great and not bad (hence the three star good rating)
The service was friendly, but slow
The ambiance (OUTSIDE) was adorable, comfortable and romantic... the noise level was exactly what you'd expect from an outdoor dining area. On this night we sat outside and it was excellent (considering the weather was cool enough to be outside). Come summer this could be an issue for the restaurant for people like me... explanation... outside (during summer months) would be way too hot and humid and the inside of this place is WAY TOO LOUD. I like to be able to enjoy my dinner companions with friendly conversation"

"VERY NOISY. Nice decor but no sound barriers. We complained that the large group was making so much noise that it was ruining our dinner and they did nothing. The food was good but if you are a vegetarian, be prepared to eat cheese. They had only one vegan item on the menu and it was not very good. The chocolate mousse was outstanding however! Our order was messed up thtee times and our bill was wrong. Not worth the price considering all the other downsides. Veggies are better off going to the Floridian."

"We have eaten here several times, and the meals have been consistently excellent. Each course consists of a nice variety of textures and flavors.
The menu includes a couple dozen tapas, a good variety of main courses, and 4-course tasting menus, which can be ordered with paired wines.
The wine list is huge, with tasting glasses (2 oz.) at $3-5, regular glasses (6 oz.) averaging about $10, and a large number of full bottles from throughout Spain and the rest of the world. The serving staff are very knowledgeable about the wines that they serve, and have made excellent recommendations for wines that pair well with each plate."

"Another St. Augustine restaurant with extremely slow service. The server was pleasant and attentive, but the kitchen was dreadfully slow. Had we not spent over half an hour between our first and second Tapas, I would have rated this restaurant perfect. The food was excellent. The wine list was excellent. "The music was loud and interfered with the conversation; upon arrival we asked to be seated far enough away, to no avail. Addtionally the type of music was not fitting with the ambiance this establishment uses to represent its attributes in advertising. We also felt unnecessarily rushed, with all of the entrees being served one after another. A preferred approach to service would we one course at a time, to enjoy them piecemeal, and to ensure the food remains hot when served. We asked timing slow down a tad, also to no avail."

"Great as always, but the food wasnt as good as in times past. The ribeye is a mistake for what the charge for it. You are better off with the chimchurri skirt steak or filet. The lamb was fantastic. If you want a rib eye go across town to black molly and get a slightly less polished treatment of a charred steak for less than half the price. Otherwise... Fantastic. Oh... Bring back fois gras please!"

"Loved this place. Great selection so wine. The food was very good. The mussels were really good as well as the Caesar salad. The olive oil they serve with the bread is wonderful. The muffuletta was one of the best. Wish we lived nearby so that we could go there all the time."

"Just had my first visit to The Tasting Room, and it will not be my last. My first impression was of a friendly greeting, inviting decor and a cozy atmosphere. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful with the wine selection and attentive without being obtrusive. The entire staff seemed to enjoy working there. The courses were well timed, the pace facilitating conversation and enjoyment of the dishes without dragging at all. And the food was the centerpiece of a memorable evening. Seeing what other customers were enjoying made me wish I could order the entire menu. I look forward to my next visit to Saint Augustine and my next meal at The tasting Room."

"The first course will take your breath away. But after you've finished dessert, you will marvel that the chef has repeatedly surpassed standards of excellence with each dish. You can have a lot of fun if you go on culinary adventures by means of the small plates. About the size of a plentiful, to-be-shared appetizer, each plate gives you an opportunity to try something really special. And the live guitarist playing in the main room was superb - not too loud, not hackneyed, and certainly not annoying. Instead, he was talented and multifaceted, playing different types of music seamlessly. Extraordinary food and music - does it get any better than this?"

"I love this place - it is definitely one of the best in St. Augustine. We only wish they could be more consistent - they go from excellent to just "good" and back again, a different experience with each visit. This last visit was ok but not great like the last time we ate there.To their credit, they are changing their menu with different offerings. This always keeps a place fresh. Regardless, we will always come back here!"

"Really enjoyed our 20th anniversary. Our waitress was extremely helpful and made this day very memorable and special. We enjoyed the four course chef choice. It was very enjoyable. My wife really liked the wine pairing with her meal. Our waitress offered me a beer pairing since I am not a wine drinker and they were spot on. It was even more exciting for us watching a younger couple get engaged. The hostess when I made my reservation was polite and helpful, but if you are making a reservation, you better make it well in advance. I only wish they would have had the live music playing while we were there (6 til 7:30)."
