Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle Reviews List
Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
Acclaimed chef/owner John Howie returned to Seattle in early 2009 with his second Seastar Restaurant, located on the corner of Westlake and Denny Ave., above Whole Foods Market. The inspired menu rotates seasonal specialties and northwest favorites, while our Raw Bar offers a host of ceviche, poke, sushi, and freshly shucked oysters. The understated atmosphere of our dining room suits any occasion, casual or formal, and our award winning service staff looks forward to carefully attending to your every need.
Welcome to Seastar Seattle, the city’s premier seafood dining experience.
"Sea Star Seattle has a different feel to the Bellevue restaurant: a little more relaxed, more groups, less intimate. The staff were very accommodating of our 1yr old daughter and were happy to cook up some salmon so she could join in with the meal. We ordered dishes to share, the Halibut Ceviche was really interesting and tasty as were the toppings to the Oyster Samplers. The Seared Kal-bi Pork was tender and not too spicy. We weren't rushed at all through the meal and the staff were very attentive when it came to topping up our water/wine glasses. We left feeling the meal and service was good value for money and we'll definitely be going back."

"Sat next to a table with noisy children. Service slow and wine service never came back after saying he would. Waiter asked if we wanted to see desert menu. We said yes then he brought the check. We ordered desert and would have expected something complimentary. Disappointing experience."

Review 3 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"Had an unexpected amazing dinner at this place which was located adjacent to our hotel...the Pan Pacific in Seattle. My father and I are from SF and we are both passionate about food. We were looking for a great place to sample some seafood and we found it here. The halibut ceviche, hamachi nigiri, mussels in thai curry, and copper river salmon were all fantastic. I can't speak highly enough about the cuisine and the service here. Bravo to the entire crew...!"

Review 5 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"Seastar was really accomodating when I called to push back my reservation 20 min. and they had a table ready for us when we arrived. There were 5 in the party - celebrating a co-workers 27 year anniversary with the company. The server was patient as we ordered, knowledgable with the menu, made great recommendations and left us alone when needed. The food was delicious; especially the seafood salad and sushi - and the coconut cream pie for 2, fed all 5 of us with a few bites leftover. It was absolutely divine - I highly recommend."

"I have never been to this location, and just as the Bellevue restaurant this one delivered! Great service coupled with great food cooked to perfection is hard to find. This is one of those spots! There isn't anything on the menu that didn't look amazing. Great for business dinners, or a nice date night out. Happy hour seemed light, but it was a Tuesday. ;)"

"This was our third visit to Seastar-Seattle and we have never been disappointed. Had fresh Alaskan Halibut and thought it was the best halibut I have ever eaten, and we are from Sitka, Alaska where the halibut doesn't come any better."

"We celebrated our Sr. Prom with a fabulous dinner at Seastar. I can honestly say that our server was the politest server, EVER! My date had never been there before and I'm happy to report that she was very pleased with my choice. I'd also like to throw out a huge rave and "thank you" to the kind anonymous person who paid for our dinner. I definitely intend on paying it forward. Thank you Seastar for your excellent service and never disappointing."

Review 10 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"We are currently on a pretty strict diet regimen. There are many things we cannot eat - when we asked the waiter about ordering our food with some specific requests around what not to include or what to add, he was extremely accommodating and made sure we were completely taken care of. Fantastic service and the food we did eat was incredibly delicious."

Review 13 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"One person in our party of four liked his dish very much. Two of us had a truly strange dish (the menu description said served with baby carrots and literally there were two microscopic bits of carrot and the strangest little cubes of what they called gnocchi! Also another pet peeve of mine, very small tables and really huge menus! And nothing in the way of ambience."

Review 23 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"Great food! We went for restaurant week and were blown away. The Aloha roll was outstanding. Hot and sour soup had a great balance and a lot of veggies and shirmp. Ancho shirmp with mash was amazing, very flavorful and not your typical "mashed potatoes" because there were different veggies mixed in. For dessert we had truffles and the creme brulee... yum! Over all a great experience and a wonderful date night! We will be coming back."

Review 26 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"We were so pleasantly surprised by what turned to be a fantastic experience at Seastar! I don't what we expected, but our dinner surpassed everything. The place is elegant, but contemporary. Clean, light, sophisticated. The service was exceptional. Waiters and staff cleared, served, and were so attentive without being cloying. The food blew us away! I ordered the halibut reggiano, not expecting much but it was fantastic! Delicate, tasty, so lovely. My husband had the cedar-plank salmon and was almost in tears at how perfectly it was cooked. Dessert was good, not exceptional, but by then it didn't matter. We were sold! We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!"

Review 27 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"Enticed by the Seattle Restaurant Week's affordable deal, my friend and I went to the Seattle Seastar for the first time. We had the spicy ahi sushi roll and Thai seafood salad for appetizers. They were both very good; especially, the Thai seafood salad. For our entrees, we both had the steelhead. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The beans they served as side dish, however, were undercooked. For dessert, we had the very good crème brulee, which could have had a thicker caramel crust. All this for $28 was an incredible bargain.
The wine-by-the-glass selection could stand some improvement, and is overpriced: $9 for a tiny glass of chilled sake, and $17 for an 8-oz. glass of mediocre pinot noir."

Review 28 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"We dined at the Seattle Seastar during restaurant weeks 3 courses for 28 dollars. The smoked salmon pasta was very good. The sushi was ok, but then this restaurant is not known for excellent sushi and we are quite knowledgeable about sushi grade fish quality. Overall the price was excellent so no complaints. It was interesting to find that the Bellevue Seastar offered a better menu than Seattle. We dined at Seattle because of the open seating, but not realizing the menu differences."

"my dinner companions thought the time between courses was too long. my only issue was how long it took to get a glass of wine to go with my entree. it was an extremely busy sunday evening during restaurant week, & the servers seemed spread thin."

"We have been to Seastar for a casual dinner, Valentine's Day, group dining in their private room and also for special occasions with another couple and have never been disappointed. They go out of their way to accommodate special requests and are attentive without being overbearing. And, needless to say, the food is outstanding or we wouldn't go back."

Review 34 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"We really appreciated coming to Seastar during Seattle Restaurant Week. We had very good wine and meals at a very reasonable price. Our waiter, however, was less than thrilling. We found him inattentive and only moderately interested in our table. While the food was great, the waiter brought down our overall dining experience. 4 stars for the food, 2 stars for the wait staff. I'm sure we'll be back and hopefully, we'll have a different waiter with a better attitude toward his customers."

Review 35 for Seastar Restaurant and Raw Bar - Seattle
"We went to Seastar to celebrate a birthday; it just happened to be during Restaurant Week. I ordered the scallops with blood orange gastrique from the regular menu, as I am a huge fan of scallops, and this dish met my high standards. The portion was generous and everything on the plate was delicious. The birthday boy ordered the lamb from the restaurant week menu and he said it was fabulous. Our waitress was first rate, too. I think we prefer the Bellevue Seastar because of the restaurant layout there, and we didn't enjoy the view out the window in Seattle, but all in all it was a lovely dining experience appropriate for a special occasion and we left very happy."

"Loved it! Food was fantastic (I had scallop ceviche and salmon) and the service was excellent. We were new to the area and one of the members of the waitstaff even offered to give us restaurant recommendations for the other nights we were on town. Great start to a great weekend!"

"Great food! I love seafood- and there is such good variety. Very fresh Already craving what I ordered. We didnt have outstanding service (would have begged for an ice-tea refill if anyone ever came around) but it was good. Decor is nice but I thought it looked a little dated for the prices Signage too looks cheap Will go again for sure though"

"First time here, and we shared some raw bar appetizers--best California roll I've ever had, and the Ahi poke was wonderful. The entrees were great, but next time, I think I would stick to sharing appetizers, as there were so many I wanted to try and could only fit so much in with a big entree."
