"The food and service were both outstanding. We'll be back. This was our second visit to Corso. Both times we went for an early dinner; 5:30 or 6. The only thing we found puzzling is that both times, they were almost out of their specials by 5:30 or 6. Their first seating for dinner is at 5:00."

"This was our fifth meal at Corso in 2013. The meal was as usual outstanding. For a small trattoria their menu is inventive while retaining many favorites such as tripe and pannacotta. Their fish dishes are always first class--value for money it one of the best restaurants in the Bay Area."

"We recently moved to north Berkeley - this was a date nite - first time out. We tried several appetizers - ok - disappointed on the chicken pâté it was gammy - the "toast" was just the same bread as the table bread.
Did like the options to order wine in differences inctements taste, half galas , full glass, and full bottle. Great for wine pairings!
Odd: we ordered couple of red wines - all we're "chilled" - strange?
Service; friendly arrival and good service from server .
Steak was wonderful ! Great to share!
Pasta pappardelle was very small portion.
Pricing was fair."

"We went on account of visit from Dad/Grandpa from East Coast. I ordered whole baked fish, which was moist with a nice salty flavor around the skin and crust that penetrated into the fish but did not over power it. Done just right. I had fava bean ricotta ravioli appetizer, the highlight of which were the tiny, garlic soaked squash blossoms garnish. The carafe of Valpolicella was quite fine for our meal. Only downside--there was basically nothing of interest or appeal on the menu for our 11 year-old son. Luckily he ate finger food snacks earlier at home before we got to the restaurant. What about having a simple pasta with tomato sauce or oil/butter/"sprinkle cheese" for young diners?"

"A short, frequently changing, menu of well prepared rustic Italian food - one of the best, if not the best, Italian restaurants in the East Bay. The room is nothing special; it can get very noisy; and the service is spotty - but the food is consistently good. If you're one of those people who just wants a good meal and the heck with the frills - Trattoria Corso is your kind'a place."

"Corso has top notch food with great seasonal menus. The first time we ate their I was sold, and I knew I had to come back to see what they would have on their next menu. The staff is responsive and attentive, and they are really knowledgable about their wines, but I'm not a wino so unfortunately I wish they had a better selection of birras! I have to say that the portions are small, my fiancé had to order two servings of his entree to get full, but he liked it so much he ate it twice! The baked polenta with marscapone is to die for."

"The food was wonderful. The service was off. From the moment we told the host our name for the reservation, we were told, that is your table over there. He just pointed at a table. I asked, which one specifically so we did not sit in the wrong place. Again he just pointed at a table and told us to go. No one walked us to the table and or gave us menus. Then someone came over to make sure we were the one's with the reservation and not someone who came in and just took the table. Then the waitress arrived gave us our menus and asked for drink orders and said she would be right back. She never came back, and some other worker came over much later and took our drink orders. We loved the food but the service needs some work."

"Trattoria Corso is crowded and noisy. The noise, the hurried service, the tables without tablecloths--all create a non-intimate setting. We ordered a pasta with proscuitto that was salty, and spinach that was uninspired Only the asparagus soup was excellent. When I asked for a full-bodied red wine the waitperson recommended the most expensive glass on the list. Neither I or my partner thought it was full-bodied or interesting. There were other notes--minor in themselves, but creating a hurried, distracted feeling. for e.g.:The half-liter of wine plopped on the table. No table when we'd made a reservation two nights ago. I hope it was a bad night."

"We found this restaurant by 'accident' as another favorite is closed on Tuesdays, and we were very impressed - the food was excellent: we had dinner (blue nose sea bass, Branzino and Cotoletta Milanese, plus a pasta dish to share as appetizer and a coppa amarena for dessert), and the wait staff could not have been any more pleasant.
Excellent dining experience! Next time we will book a table earlier so we can get in at a later dinner time (5:15pm is too early for dinner for us)."

"Really enjoyed my salad, but unfortunately I went with the recommendation of our server and ordered the special lamb sausage, which really wasn't very flavorful...nothing special. I regreted not ordering a pasta. The menu is small, as are the portions in general, with everything ala carte. So I would recommend Corso for folks who are able to afford it, but I think there are better and less expensive options. I did appreciate how quiet it was, even when full, a rarity these days to be able to have a conversation without shouting."

"Not only did the busboy try to grab a plate from under me while I was still forking some asparagus, he was annoyed that I did not answer his question if I was finished. The welcome first person at our table was odd. He acted like a waiter so I asked for the special today and he said he was just taking drinks orders - he acted so friendly as to be old friends (it was our first visit).
BUT - the Florentine tripe was outstanding - I went there because of that. The grilled filet of trout was true-flavored and tender. And the grilled asparagus was to die for. Wonderful fresh, well prepared food without fuss."

"We had run into traffic, but the restaurant accommodated our late arrival. We were meeting with another couple to discuss some plans and had the room (not too crowded) and proper noise level to do so. All of that is on top of the excellent food. It was a new place for all of us since none of us lives in Berkeley, and we were delighted. It is also super close to Freight and Salvage (where we were going) and Berkeley Rep -- another plus."

"I dine regularly at Corso. I generally sit at the bar because my visits are solo or meeting just one. Since my friend had never been to Corso, we took a table. Had a fantastic waiter, Brian, who made some recommendations. He was attentive but allowed us to maintain our conversation.
Each course was well presented and quite tasty. The service and food quality are consistent so I'd recommend it to everyone except that I'm finding it difficult to get a reservation now :-)"

"This small, classic Italian restaurant serves beautifully prepared and presented food. "Unlike many restaurants, Corso just gets better with age. The food is Italian, of course, with all the local sourcing you would expect in Berkeley -- or in small-town Italy, for that matter. You cannot go wrong with even something as simple as chicken liver crostini (made with vin santo to counteract the intensity of capers and anchovies) or as delicate as petrale sole. The 500 ml carafes of wine are also a nice touch."

"Honestly, I was disappointed! We went for our anniversary and it just wasn't special. I had butter/lemon chicken, not an inspired choice, true but seriously? It was a chicken breast, floured, and sautéed in butter....with a small slice of lemon on the side. That is it. That little voice "I can do that" couldn't help but speak up. It was tasty, but 3 large tablespoons of butter makes anything taste good.
My husband had lamb and very easy to please tastes. He said it was bland, and it was.
We had side dishes beans and escarole, again very bland. Spinach was actually bitter, which is hard to do.

"This was out third visit to Corso in the space of six weeks and the quality of the food out did the previous visits when we judged the food outstnading. The food on our most recent was simply outstanding-the farfalle with chanterelles, the octopus and cod dishes were remarkably good. Perhaps one of the best meals in more than 45 years of eating out in Berkeley! Service is very good, but it can be very noisy, to be expected of a bistro?"

"Solid four star rustic Italian food, (although sometimes the chef gets a little heavy handed with the salt), at three star prices - the short menu changes frequently and there's almost always something a little unusual. It's a small place and there are a lot of hard edges - it can get pretty loud. The wine list is interesting, but there aren't many bargains - if you like to BYOB, this is a place to do it. Service is friendly, but not necessarily efficient - if you're uncomfortable bringing your needs to the attention of your server, you may wait a VERY LONG time before s/he notices."

"We have been going to Corso ever since it opened. It is part of The Rivoli group . What makes it great in my opinion is their consistency in the quality of the food. The service is also top drawer. The other draw is closeness to downtown Berkeley.

"Went to Corso for my wife's birthday dinner. Food was great but the service left me feeling that our being there was rather unspecial. Despite our Open Table reservation we were made to wait for 10-15 minutes to be seated. The staff seemed generally unprepared to serve our table. The final thing was that the couple next to us were each served complimentary icecream sundaes for a birthday while we were handed dessert menus even after I mentioned the fact on the open table notes and the man who seated us said "happy birthday" to my wife. Granted it was obvious these people were personal friends of the restaurant and our waiter likely didn't get the memo or forgot about our birthday but the effect was that this was orchestrated in poor taste."

"First visit to Corso, party of 5. The appetizers were very good, especially the polenta and the burrata. The farfalle with mushrooms was on the bland side and the chickpea soup dull, but the trout was delicious and flavorful (though not very truffled). The cherry sundae was excellent. Good atmosphere. I was slightly disappointed by the food but am certainly willing to give it another try."

"Very good food, nicely presented, and excellent service. We liked the soups and the salads, and portions with entrees was satisfactory to very good. Desserts quite good. Wine selection a bit limited by the glass, but overall good and interesting wine selection by bottle. Proximity to the UC campus is a big plus, and street parking in the area in the evening is not difficult. Even when busy it is often possible to drop in and get a seat at the counter for dinner. Prices are appropriate for the quality and service."
