"We were driving from the Bay Area and meeting friends from the Central Valley. Pleasanton's Main Street is convenient, lovely and fun, and Blue Agave was terrific. Great food and great service. No wimpy chicken bits on chicken salad; large chunks of tender chicken over delicious greens with a light dressing. And raves from the other guests over their traditional Mexican dishes."

"Seafood was not fresh, shrimp tasted precooked and frozen. Staff was nice when I sent it back, and even comp'ed the chicken replacement I ordered. Still, for the price, the seafood should taste fresh."

"Blue Agave Club was a very nice setting for Mother's Day brunch. The live music and atmosphere was very tranquil. My made to order omelet was delicious, however some of the meat selections at the buffet were sub par; almost bland even. The buffet set up was kind of a free for all. People were waiting in the hallway forming a line when no line was needed because it was somewhat unclear what to do or where each buffet line started. The mimosa kept flowing and the servers took care of our drinks in a timely manner so can't complain about the service at all. Everyone was very friendly."

"The Blue Agave is one of our favorite restaurants in the Bay Area. For special occasions, we have been coming here for over 20 years for their Blue Agave steak and Camarones Xochitl. The tequila shot that comes with the steak is a very good touch. We also enjoy their margaritas. We like the place so much that we don't mind driving 45 minutes to dine here.
However, my steak was cooked medium instead of medium-rare in the last couple of times that we came. No big problem because it was replaced by another that's cooked to my satisfaction. I just drank more margaritas while waiting.
We will keep coming back to this restaurant because the food is one of the best. We hope the service continues to improve."

"I've dined here for years and wrote a review long ago. Not much has changed since then; the food is amazing but the service is poor. The individuals who refill drinks/chips/salsa are on it, but the waiters are MIA. My brother received the wrong dish, and it took ten minutes to flag down a drink refiller, who then got our waiter. We all ate while my brother waited another 20 minutes for the correct dish. Meanwhile, the table behind us faced the same issue, and after they complained the manager appeared and offered them some form of compensation. We didn't receive anything but a short "sorry" reply from the waiter. The only reason I continue to dine here is because the food is so great; their mole poblano is my favorite (anywhere)."

"Growing up in Texas I have to adjust my mindset on some of the dishes. That being said I very much enjoy the west coast influence to most of the dishes. My only recommendation is to increase the spice level as several of the dishes have no 'kick'."

"Raining day so sitting inside was kind of a bust. Been to lunch here many times before, which is great w/ reasonable pricing. The Dinner menu was a bit limited compared to the lunch menu, which is a bit more kid friendly. The food was excellant with interseting flavors. The price of the dinner (Including 2 margarita pitchers for 8 people) was extremely high for Pleasanton."

"Every time I come, I always order the same thing, the Plato Huitzilapoxtli. I want to try something else, but just can't bring myself to switch it up since this plate is soooo good. Plus, I finally learned how to pronounce it, so why change now, right?! I brought some co-workers for Cinco de Mayo and they all loved it too. I come here every time I am in town. It's a great place to sit outside with a group and enjoy some margaritas (also the best in town). Definitely my favorite place in Downtown Pleasanton."

"I had the pork chop. It was OK. The other three I was with made the mistake of getting the enchiladas. Covered with a very unappetizing bland uninteresting mole sauce. The cheese had already hardened by the time it was served. Not good."

"15 of us and the service was great, they even gave separate tickets. Outside seating is perfect except they would not move an umbrella to shade a guest and there were tons of umbrellas and even hard to believe that any sun could make it to a guest. Everything else was perfect and If I had worn a hat the sun would not have been a problem."

"This is where we usually pick when we want to have a specail evening with outdoor evening. The people who work there are all very friendly with smiles and happy to make any reasonable accomidations. We love that they have heaters so that when it starts to get chilly they are more than happy to roll one over to accomidate the weather. The drinks are delish and generous, and the Tequilla is such good qualitiy that I have never felt bad afterwards for having a little to much. Love the LIve Music.....would like to hear a little bit more Spanish music but I am not complaining."

"This gem is perfect for that quiet lunch when you want to choose from a huge variety of great Mexican items, sitting outside and enjoying their garden. Even better is dinner where the focus is on Yucatan Mexican cuisine. Try their great mole - unless you are a serious home chef, you won't do this at home. Or the enjococado - we've been trying to recreate this one at home for years. Wonderful food. And a chance to see that yes, the tequila does make a difference in your margarita. Choose from a large number of margaritas made with a variety of top shelf reposadas and anejos. (well, also silver, but I don't care for those as much). Make sure you sit outside - it is the perfect outside venue. They have heaters for cooler nights."

"I've been to the Blue Agave several times for dinner / drinks after works with friends. My experience has always been pleasant, the food and service has always been good even during the busiest of times so when looking for a place for Easter brunch we thought we'd give it a try. The price for the buffet was $28/pp and the food selection was very small but the food was still quite tasty. Although the overall experience was fine, I wouldn't go back for the buffet. Given that it was Easter, I was hoping for something a bit more elaborate and unfortunately this place just didn't compare to other places I have been for such a buffet. I was hoping for a bigger selection and something a bit different from their regular menu."

"The food was ok at best. We were seated outside and there were gnats everywhere! It was impossible to enjoy our food after scooping multiple bugs out. We even had to request a second margarita because the first one arrived with a gnat swimming in it. I think our experience could have been far more enjoyable had we been inside."

"My second time visiting and I don't think I'll come to Pleasanton again without coming to Blue Agave. The best mole sauce I think I've ever had. I can never decide what to get so I end up with the plato huitzilopoxtli so I get a bit of everything. "We got to Blue Agave at 8:35 on a Saturday night. I called them and they said if we didn't show up before 8:45 the kitchen would be closed. When we got there we received terrible service and felt as though the wait staff wanted us to get out of there. They were meeting up by the bar and hanging out while we were finished up our food. Whenever we asked for anything we were greeted with looks of apathy and irritation.
Below average food, below average service, and below-average ambiance. The inside of the restaurant has extremely tacky decor but I'm guessing the outdoor seating would be significantly better. For the prices they charge, you can find many better places in downtown Pleasanton."

"Actually, I eat here regularly, and host a small association/group regularly here. It's higher end Mexican food than the typical Mexican restaurant with a nice open air patio for warm days in downtown Pleasanton. Sometimes there's music. If you're into Tequila, they have about 8 million different types and featured margaritas. For lunch I get a combo, but for dinner, usually the Plato I can't spell or say dish which also has a sampling of tasty steak, chile relano and a mole enchilada. Just do it."

"Blue Agave is an authentic Mexican restaurant with an amazing selection of Tequila. We went on a very busy Saturday night - the place was packed, and even with a reservation we had to wait 30 minutes or so to get seated. I ordered a seafood stew special, and it was not very filling - unusual for Mexican food. It was not served with any side dishes and did not contain anything but the creamy broth and pieces of seafood. I would not choose this dish again. However, everyone else I was with enjoyed their choices as well as the atmosphere."

"I took my boyfriend to this restaurant for a late Valentine's date. I requested Vanessa because my boyfriend is Deaf and she knows American Sign Language. We were greeted and seated within minutes. We ordered drinks first, which were amazing. I love their Piña Coladas, so I ordered one plus a refill. My boyfriend got the Mojito, which was strong and delicious, but not my preferred taste for the occasion. We both ordered one entree and shared a bit of what we had. Everything tasted amazing! There was a green sauce that surrounded the Salmon Viva Mexico that was SOOO delicious!! I forget what it's called, but whatever it was, I wish it was on every entree I ever order. Vanessa checked back often and was very friendly."

"Dined on Saturday, February 15th. First time we had been here. Food was excellent, very flavorful and well-prepared. Portions were only average, but that is the only complaint. Service was friendly and very efficient. Great for kids, but also for adult groups as well. Average noise level."

"The room we were placed in was cramped and far too loud to really hold/have a conversation. The caritas burrito was over cooked, dry and tasteless. I was very disappointed especially since in the paste their food has been spot on."
