Mama's Fish House
Mama's Fish House is actually a converted beach house in a coconut grove on a secluded white sand beach. Inside, hinged windows open to let in the trade winds and Polynesian artifacts and original oil paintings decorate tropical hardwood walls. The rooms are filled with spectacular flower arrangements and tapa print cloths cover the tables. Outdoor dining is equally exciting, and everyone enjoys watching the windsurfers performing offshore.

"What can I say? I've dined at many upscale restaurants and none can meet what I found at MFH. If you want to enjoy a sunset meal, book very early because we could not get in after 4:30 in the afternoon. Whether you go in daytime or the evening, you won't be disappointed. Everything was top notch- from the ambiance, beautiful environment, excellent service and superb food. This is a MUST SEE place if you're on the island of Maui. Your visit there won't be complete if you miss this restaurant. We had drinks, entree and dessert - all were magnificent!"

"We have dined at Mama's for 20+ years each time we visit Maui. Mama's has been at the top of our list for an outstanding dining experience. For us, this is where all the ingredients of a culinary experience come together perfectly. Unfortunately, over the years, we have seen the price increase, until now, our desire to continue dining there has been crushed. Adding to the entree menu the name of the person who caught the fish and where the fish was caught is an insult, if intended to justify the average $50 price per entree. Charging $10 for a cup of coffee because it is pressed brewed at your table (as noted on the menu) is excessive. We went to Mama's to celebrate our anniversary. This experience left a bad taste in our mouths."

"Every time we visit Maui, we have to go to Mama's Fish House! Why? It's beautiful! Everything about it is beautiful! Actually, it's beyond beautiful! The food is excellent and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service goes well beyond my expectations- the free valet, hosts and wait staff are all so attentive. And the view!! It's Hawaii! You can bet your bottom dollar it's going to be perfect. It's no wonder we choose to come back here every time and the place my husband chose to propose. Most recently we brought our son (just two days before this post) to celebrate his 5th birthday. They even put a special sign for him wishing him happy birthday on our table. It's was and always is perfect!"

"But pricey Just for a special occasion. Lunch for two was close to $200.00. We both shared an appetizer and a salad and both had the house signature dish, Mahi Mahi stuffed with shrimp and lobster with a small lobster tail on top, then shared a dessert that was wonderful. Locally caught seafood (name of boat with the catch), octopus, salads and killer desserts. Everything we tried was outstanding.
One of the few spots with carafe coffee, huge fresh pot.
Servers were great, attentive, but leaving lots of time to sit quietly and enjoy both the view of the little beach, the gardens and the parade of other diners.

"This is one of our favorite restaurants in the world. We cannot believe how the many, many invisible and visible people consistently create the most wonderful dining experience. Every piece of the complicated puzzle that equates to a perfect dining experience is magically in place every time we have dined here. "We never fail to eat at Mama's when on Maui....no matter how far the drive is from where we are staying. Make a reservation well ahead of time for dinner before sunset so you can see the wonderful "beach" location. It's so hard to describe just how unique this place is in all aspects....everything from the locale (and boat on the road) to the building itself which has evolved over time...from the food to the incredible floral arrangements....yet you can go in shorts and feel totally relaxed! It's a bit pricey but worth every penny....and don't miss the desserts! So sad I can't eat there more often but have managed to spread the word to many and hear how much they've enjoyed it too."

"It's pricey, and the food is good but not amazing. They do however, have very attentive staff, complimentary valet parking, and a gorgeous view. Most appetizers start at $20, so it is definitely not a budget dining place. However, if you're looking to mark a special occasion, and you love to eat out and don't mind spending a little extra for food that is overpriced, then this is it. I think if you took away the scenery and the diligent service, you would find that the meal itself is not spectacular, but still quite good."

"Being from New Orleans, we expect good food especially when you pay a big price. Mama's was recommended by our world traveler daughter and it was all we were expecting and more. The scenic beach/ocean view was beautiful and the restaurant itself was all you could ask for representing everything in Hawaiian decor. The food entries start at about $50, so it is pricey. However, it was all good. Our group of four tried several appetizers and various entries and we were not disappointed. You must make a reservation!"

"Impossibly beautiful setting, on the water with torches burning in the sand, waves crashing, perfect photo spots. The restaurant is almost a Disney attraction in itself (in a good way) loaded with ambiance. The food was outstanding, local fish extremely fresh and well-prepared. My only complaint was we arrived a little early (1/2 hr) and still waited another 40 min or so past our reservation time....altogether 1+ hour, even though beautiful setting, that's still too long. But all else great. I recommend that if dates are flexible, one should book early and keep trying till you can get a 6pm. We had 7:15, and due to the wait, the sun had set by the time we were seated; being seated and eating by 7, with that backdrop, would be perfect."

"Mama's does it again - excellent food, friendly service, and special touches made for a perfect evening. Starting with traditional Mai Tai's, first course of salad was crisp, colorful and lightly dressed. Sweet Hawaiian bread with creamy butter accompanied it. Neither of us could resist ordering the stuffed mahi mahi with macadamia nut crust, fresh asparagus, herbed rice and a luscious buerre blanc sauce. As it was my husbands birthday, they sat us at a great table looking out on the golden sands in plenty of time to watch the tamarind sunset. They also made a special card for him and served a delicious homemade banana ice cream for desert. A perfect evening in paradise to celebrate a special Birthday - A big Mahalo to all at Mama's!"

"We were married 11 years ago on Maui and had our wedding dinner with friends @ Mama's Fish House, and this visit back was just as wonderful as the first! The view out onto the ocean is a "once in a lifetime kind of view" and then the meal! It was spectacular as well. The mahi-mahi stuffed with crab and lobster, encrusted with macadamia nuts is the meal this restaurant is known for, and it doesn't disappoint! Sadly, we were to full to have dessert, maybe next time!"

"Great Location, unbelievable views. Great apps! The entrees were good but not great. The service was just average, not what I was expecting. When you factor in good/not great entrees, ok service and a high price point = not worth the trip?? With that said, if you go and do apps tapas style and skip the pricey just-ok entrees, you have a recipe for a great night. I wouldn't rule it out, the views are worth a trip."

"Eclectic dining spot on its own beach. Popular with tourists, and special occasions for locals. Very pricey. At our table of three, I had the best dish, a delicious aku, and the stuffed fish was also very nice. None of us were impressed with the Hawaiian plate. Service is very attentive without being in your face. Mama's definitely has the location and ambience."

"After suffering several disappointments in Maui's dining scene I didn't go in with the highest expectations to Mama's despite it's excellent reviews. First, the location is excellent. While not right on the water the restaurant has some spectacular views especially if you go around sunset. My wife and I arrived a little before our reservation time and were sat at the bar until our table was ready. The drinks were excellent. All the food was great from the appetizers to the entrees. Unfortunately we didn't sample dessert since we had to catch our plane. All the wait staff was attentive and upbeat. We couldn't ask for a better ending to our Maui trip."

"When we go to Maui, we always make a point to go to Mama's. The food is always great and the view is second to none. This was the first time we have gone with our kids(8-6), My oldest loves seafood and this place was a big hit. He wanted more of everything! My youngest doesn't like seafood at all (we're still trying). They were very accommodating to her. I think she had some chicken, but I was too busy enjoying my dinner to notice :)"

"We had found this restaurant from a blog of great food finds in Maui, made reservations for our final evening. When placing the reservations I was asked if it was a special occasion, I stated yes our last day of Maui vacation. To our surprise when seated we had one of the best tables in the place, sitting with a beautiful view of the beach/ocean. Our server Tim was fabulous. He knew the menu front and back and asked our likes to guide him on providing suggestions. I cannot describe how great the food is, from cocktails to dessert, definitely 5 star."

"This was the highlight of our visit to Maui. They definitely lived up to the hype, as we absolutely loved Mama's Fish House. The service was friendly and exceptionally good. The food was excellent. The drinks were excellent. And we were able to get in and out for lunch in about an hour (that worked well for us, as we were beginning the Road to Hana immediately following lunch). It is also a beautiful restaurant with breath-taking views. Everything about it was wonderful and we'll definitely be back next time we visit Maui."

"Mama's Fish House is usually our first stop on arriving on Maui. Mama's always has the best freshly caught fish on Maui. This time we had Uku and Lehi, both are in the snapper family. The presentation was elegant, and the preparations were delicious. You always feel pampered by the service you receive, and Mama's always includes little goodies such as a small cup of soup and a small bite of dessert with the meal. Be prepared for an excellent dining experience while watching ambitious wind surfers flying across the water. But also be prepared to pay for all this; Mama's is pricey, but well worth cost."
